Hello all my old CIV friends.

I am retiring from my real job as a real scientist in 2 weeks, and find myself still playing Civilization IV after 10 years!!! Never liked V much, and never bought VI. I see like a chess player, we know the rules and every game is a new challenge.

So my question, would there be an interest and a following (understandably less) if I did a reboot of the classic RPC games? It would be a slow progression of the 52 leaders again, marathon speed, large -huge maps, likely at Monarch difficulty. Games may be a replay of previous games (new maps, start etc...), new ideas, or perhaps switching off (can you say Ghandi crusades).

For newer players, a Role Play Challenge involves adding additional rules for an interesting story game while usually following a specific type of game strategy (Specialist Economy, Cottage Economy, Settled Specialist Economy, etc....), FUN and EDUCATIONAL! I do not promise to win everytime, but I do promise entertainment.

The other thing I see there are no articles in the old war academy, probably deleted because of the photobucket thing. I think some specific educational play-throughs would help! However, I would need some advice on setting up an account somewhere to store and organize pictures so I can post them. Remember I am a bit older and not as computer/tech savy as most here, but I do have a new kick-ass laptop with windows 10 (all my previous games were on XP :shifty:

You can see many of my previous games by following the links in my signature.

SO what do you all say!!!

PS: Having all the time in the world (aside from exercising and working around the house) to write up these games, I promise to keep my spelling error to a minimum (Please see previous RPCs about my feeling on rules)!

I would love this. I have been around these forums for around a decade, mostly as a lurker, and always enjoyed your series. A few educational games would definitely help out newer players (they still trickle in!) as the War Academy is largely obsolete.

Yes. Absolutely!
I did some RP-light in the latest BOTM and it was really enjoyable.

I was not present in the original series, but I would at the very least be interested.

It sounds cool, although I'm not sure I will do more than read the threads. I haven't been able to get into a Civ4 game for a while, I've been preferring simpler games that I don't have to worry about losing myself in for a long time. I still think about Civ4 but haven't played in a while. Maybe I will, but if so it'll probably be when the days are longer and I have more energy..

I personally think i am not going to play Civ 4 on marathon speed a lot. I never did, and i feel no motivation to do so. The whole game mechanics change a lot, and normal speed games are already taking long if you play carefully. Marathon speed would just be too much for a time investment for me personally. I would on the other hand take a look if you would post these games as a Youtube Lets Play with commentary. In style of Absolute Zero, Sully or Lain.

I have always been a marathon speed player, just feel I get more out of the game. Also have more flexibility on how an RPC unfolds.

Very likely I not going to do a video thing, but once again posting Screenshots. Gives me an opportunity to add my dialog.

I will likely start a new RPC summary Post that can be used to discuss games. Time is not much of a concern as I will be retired, but remember I ran through all 52 leaders in RPCs during a 2 year span playing on Marathon speed. Look for the pregame discussion sometime in the next 2 weeks, I have a lot of stuff to finish up at work. Game would likely start over the holidays.

One thing I need advice on, any recommended ways to post these screenshots? Last time I added unloaded them to photobucket and just linked it, but given photobuckets history the past year........

I just upload screenshots directly to this forum nowadays.
No idea if that is good or bad, it's just very convenient for me.

Hmmm, sounds good to me! Thanks Krikav. Modern technology, what will they think of next! :)

Mads - I use Imgur.com for pics. You can simply copy the BBcode text directly into your posts. Nice thing is it does not use the server space on this site.

I used to play along with some of your RPs long time ago, but don't remember the games being on Marathon, which like many others here I simply do not play. Maybe you provided Worldbuilder saves ..I can't remember.

I'd be happy to follow these games. I admit I STILL have some fun in going back reading the old classical RPGs, so I'd be happy to have some of them brand new!
However, good old CIV4 is now not as much as followed than then. Most fans that were highly active on the forums now are no longer around here, so I expect that the audience will be quite smaller.
Well, I say, the fewer, the better!! Let's go with it!!!

Just a note: Mad, I agree with you about Civ5 (I loved CIV4, and I think Civ5 far far worse), but I admit I am having some fun with Civ6. I think you could give it a shot: you could even end moving to Civ6 and start a lot of new stories from there! Think about it!! :)

Actually IV strategy talk is more followed than VI strats still, even now.
Look around here, we still have large threads full of IV wisdom.. ;)
VI = lots of talking, i must resist adding of what quality..must..resist........whew

In CIV 6's defense, there isn't much to talk about, things that would affect gameplay results.

@Bibor I think you misplaced the country lane pic for the VI representation :D
