I'd like to buy an external hard drive to backup the data on my PC (mostly music tracks) and make an occasional system image. My priorities are:

1. Reliability (most important)
2. Noise level while running
3. Capacity (2 TB or larger)
4. Footprint (smaller is better)
5. Speed
6. Price (least important)

OS is Windows 7, interface is USB 2.0. Any suggestions as to make/model? Best place to buy online (preferably in the USA)? Thanks.

@IglooDude - Thanks for the resource. Looks like one of those drives will meet my needs.

@Zelig - I'm concerned with the reliability of the external drive, which I will use to backup my PC's internal drive.

Yes, and I'm saying reliability doesn't really matter - it's simply a matter of time before any drive, internal or external, fails catastrophically.

Pick something by any major drive manufacturer (Hitachi, Seagate, Western Digital, Samsung), and reliability will be similar across the board.

Redundant backups is the key. Preferebly it be a good idea to keep one off-site (relatives house or maybe a bank security box or something).

I've never had a HD fail.. so I don't really understand the problem..

But really what are the chances of your computers HD dying, AND the external in the same day? IMO any old HD will do as long as its big enough to back things up... not that I ever bother.. I can download everything again easily enough.. (through legal records of previous dl content of course)
