Recruiting for 6 player FFA, set time, days flexible

yeah, so...can't find anything under EEE_boy...although for EEE I find 950 people!

My steam account is under KaminOnan...so maybe it's something else I should be searching for?

Going here steam://friends/joinchat/103582791431089902 can help, especially at the appointed hour for a game session. :)

Hi, after reading all the threads of this series, I began to think about possible rules that can be imposed for MP diplomacy:

1. Signing trade agreement should be honoured 100% by human players like contract in real world. this can force peace between two players, and allow trust to be established for at least 30 turns. Human player should be very careful about who you sign trade agreement, usually the weak ones (game sense, not skill ) or the ones not in immediate threat. by signing trade agreement, weak player can ensure more tactic room and focus on other things such as fending off an aggressive player at the moment.

2. I don't know if declaration of friendship or denounce can be used in MP or not. assume they can, then declaration of friendship can be used as an early military pact, which is more powerful than signing trade agreement. for example, A and B declared friendship, C declared war on A, then B must declare war on C; but A declare war on C, B may choose to declare or not declare. peace treaty can only be made by B-C and A-C unless declaration of friendship ends during the war, so individual peace treaty can be made. This can prevent weak civ from being run over and create true strategic alliance between players. Of course, declare of friendship must be honoured 100% until it times out.

3. pledge to protect CS: I saw one of your posts metioned the CS are being attacked by human players, which defeats the purpose of having CS in the game. So the rule maybe human player pledge to protect CS, first instance of attack, attacker or pledger may choose to declar war or not. Second offence, the attacker (but not pledger) must first declar war on the human player who pledge to protect the CS.

I know auditing all these rules may be trivial, but the diplomacy would be dead in MP if no rules are in place.

These are just my two cents. Feel free to trush them and point out any flaw or exploit in the logic, since I have no experience of MP at all.

I asked Rob but he was AFK or something, anyway it should be ok, he's usually around at that time anyway. Alternatively we can just replace him with an AI, I don't think he would care.

Hey if one of you guys having touble to continue, I may be able to step up.

Just read post one by one, and not discover it earlier.;)

Okay, guys, we're on for a little less than 36 hours from now, right? Monday at the usual hour.

NZ: 8pm. Elsewhere, please remember it's an hour earlier than your normal time if you've recently had a time change!

EEE_BOY, sorry I missed the updates to the thread till now. Thanks for your input and offer to be a sub if needed. In my experience, the less external rules outside the game mechanics, the better, in terms of reducing conflict about those rules creating disputes. In MP, especially this type of FFA/ 'free for all' game, diplomacy is alive and well. As we know from the real world, treachery is possible; at the same time, players build their own reputations over several games, so diplomacy in this sense can extend beyond a single game. In this way, players reap what they sow, both within a single game and over the longer term. Having said that, I always try to approach each separate game as its own, fresh world--alliances and other partnerships or deals should grow out of in-game conditions. However, we're only human, and we remember stuff, and tend to trust people we know better, and so on.... In any case, good to remember: it's just a game! The point is to have fun. :)

Thank you for the reply. I'm sure this will be an interesting series.

As for the game update, how is everyone going on? Any live report or battle scene:)

Well, this is the first time we've had such a long break between our starting and second game sessions; so we haven't actually played in over a week.

Which is why I was hoping people would confirm they'll be there tomorrow, in about 27 hours. ;)

Lol, I was hoping the opposite :D Just kidding. I will be available for a sub on Monday though. Hope you guys enjoy the game.

me too.

Nice, thanks for confirming, guys.

And thanks for being available to sub, EEE...you never know!

I'm happy to give you my Civ EEE if everyone else turns up, I'm enjoying Rage a lot at the moment :)

Thanks oob, I think I am available tonight. So it's 8pm Auckland time right?

Could anyone Please instruct me how to put the save file and start the game? If this gone happen, I will be around at 7 and get prepared. Thanks a lot:mischief:

Yeah 8pm Auckland time. Someone else will make the game, you will just need to join it, so you won't have to worry about save files or anything.

One note: remember to run the game in DirectX9 mode, it's more stable for multiplayer.

Hey oob, given that Rob is our 6th player and he's really only in the game as your friend and to help us fill out numbers, I'm thinking it would be best if he had the option to be subbed before you.

I'd hate to see him feeling stuck with us after you've given up on this game. And there's the added factor that he doesn't follow these boards / this thread and so we have to coordinate his participation through you.

Know what I mean? Maybe you and he can have a conversation about it and decide what works for both of you.

As a default any player starting one of these games is expected to make every effort to finish, regardless of what happens in game. I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from, having run pitboss games. I'll try to catch up with you guys before our start time and see what you've worked out.

Yeah I'm happy for Rob to be subbed rather than me. With my pitboss games we would often have players dropping in or out, kind of makes the game more interesting in that it's like the civ has had a 'revolution' and a new leader has taken over, and has potential to cause shifts in diplomacy.

Anyway, I'll stick around as long as there isn't anyone to take my place. Bear in mind I'm not wanting to drop because my game has gone badly (it isn't really that bad anyway), but rather because I'm more interested in other games at the moment.

Cool, thanks.

yeah, I get what you mean about the new players/leaders. While I like to play well, I'm about equally in it for the story of the game. That's why the first one in this series (as EEE's called it :) ) was so great.

Yeah, I found this series attractive because it allows long and cooperative game while solving the issue of committing a large chunk of time in a single day.

If I were to play a game less favorable condition, my goal may be survival and making hard time for whoever is likely to win. That's equally fun as winning the game I guess. Cos in a single game I would normally quite, but MP is different. You guys have fun!:goodjob:
