Personally if someone compared me to an orc in service to Sauron, the only reason I would be offended is that they used such an inferior work of fantasy to make a comparison. But perhaps I have thicker skin than most people.

That said, more local autonomy is not always such a good thing. if too much autonomy is given to the states soon the federal government will cease to matter, and when states choose to take action themselves it doesn't always mean good things- Arkansas sent the state national guard to enforce segregation and it was the federal government that ultimately enforced the ruling.

"Unionist has Unionist opinion, thereby proving Unionism correct." Just the sort of quality journalism we've come to expect from the Telegraph.

Did you see this?

(Her enemy is actor David Hayman )

Author is 'journalist' Jenny Hjul, a brainless bigot who somehow seems to get article space and, completely coincidentally I'm sure, happens to be married to Alan Cochrane--officially 'Scottish editor' of the Telegraph but whose actual job for the past ten years is to write drool-dripping rants about Alex Salmond.

Pangur is it possible to be a Scottish unionist who isn't brainwashed by the "lying scum British media"?

Course it's possible, what sort of question is that? You wouldn't be ... no ... you wouldn't be pulling out the nuclear option of argumentation, would you, the all-destroying straw man? :p

So you do not dislike/hate Scottish unionists?

You can accept that people can assess the same evidence as you do, acknowledge the possibilities of independence but come to a different conclusion?

Give me some credit. I am in this thread with good intentions.

No. Unionists are just as bad as the Church of England, the Catholic Church and the Nazis.

Perhaps the EDL should start patrolling neighbourhoods with a high Yes vote, remind these separatist scum what country they're in.

The NI unionists (iirc) are religious-based too (even if only due to protestantism being part of the Irelander identity :mischief: ).
Wasn't their prominent leader (90s) active in some church ranking as well?

With this thread and the one about Cornwall, I can safely deduce:

England is a bloody mess. Do you think you could make America/France to invade and fix you once and for all?

Today’s poll in the (‘Yes’ supporting) Herald also indicates the Nats are very much in trouble.
It has 35 Yes, 55 No and if you exclude the don’t knows that makes it 39 Yes/ 61 No.
I look forward to how the Nats are going to blame it on the Daily Mail this time. :mischief:

Perhaps YouGov (who did the poll) are a Sassenachs plot to psychologically abuse the down trodden Scots. ;)

By England I presume you mean Britain? Well Britain is a terrific, thriving group of countries who just happens to have a few whinging, whining minorities that don’t really know when they are well off. :)

See, this is why the English have such a poor reputation. You boast that less than 40% of Scots want independence, but you merrily dismiss the other 60% as the same "whinging, whining minorities". That's how you express your solidarity with your co-Unionists?

If these polls prove anything, it's that 60% of Scots should spend more time conversing with Englishmen, so they might learn how things really stand between our brother-nations.

[doffs cap] Sorry sir, beggin your pardon sir.

I've heard plenty of talk from silly English lefties that when Scotland achieves independence that a big chunk of the North should go along with it.
What do you think about that?

About as realistic as it sounds. As I've said, the basic premise of Scottish nationalism is institutional: we have most of the apparatus of a state ready-made, so the transition to independence would be relatively smooth. The North of England has none of this, and there's apparent will to pursue this sort of nation-building project- and besides, if such a will did exist, it would make more sense for them to pursue a federal Britain rather than a Greater Scotland.
