Registration problems: Blocked Emails

I am indebted to both you and croxis.
Thank you both!

Lefty Scaevola activate my account yesterday manually. This was the end of a spiky route into your forums… Well, in the last months I try several mail addresses (i.e. GMail) and periodical visit http://forums.civfanatics.com/register.php?do=requestemail and try to get this mail to finish the registration.
Did someone of the admins track the number of successful(!) registrations in 2014? It would be interesting to know how many other users are affected by this problem. I assume that you lost many people here. (If someone forget his password, he is lost, too.)

It isn't practical that each (or at least a big subset) new user has te request a manually unlock. Most users will digress.
Civfanatics is (was?) known as the biggest place around the Civilization series, but this issue scratch on this image.

Currently (since April or May IIRC) we have turned off the email verification requirement for registering, and for confirming user manual password reset. I assume that you first registered back before we toggled off that requirement.
The function that cannot do without the automatic email is the automatic password reset where you click the I forgot my password button and it sends a new random generated password to your email address of record. We have no way to work around that one. If you have have forgotten your password, for the time being you will have to get a message somehow to a admin (other staff members can relay it) to get a manual password reset where the admin will edit you password field and email it to you through a non automatic email.

jediOmen shows usergroup as "Registered" (activated) on the admin panel. No activity since he registered, maybe he means a password problem?

My pc died some months ago and I had no idea what the heck my password was. Using my laptop I tried the 'forgot password' thing a few times but could never get an email back. I also tried the 'contact an admin' link a couple times and never got a response. What's up with that?

For kicks tonight I tried civifanatics on my laptop using Firefox (I usually use Chrome) and voila my civfantics had been saved! It's good to be back (but things look so different!) - but any idea why I was not able to reset my password or get through to an admin?

Thanks for the explanation ori. ainwood, that's good to know. Will keep it in mind if I get locked out again.

I've gotten in touch with someone on dA who's trying to reset his password.

I'm trying to reset my password but it's not sending me an e-mail!

The poster's name in question is Jamman265 and was trying to reset his password.
