This might sound like a stupid question but before going to war with Ceasar I tried to spread Buddhism to all of his cities since I have the holy city and therefore a lot of information on where his forces are. I started pumping little Buddha's from three of my cities but after a while they all ran out of Buddha's or something, iow I couldnt produce no more.

Does anybody know the reason behind this or am I just plain stupid?

You can only have three missionaries of any religion at one time. Use up some of your existing Buddhist missionaries and you'll be able to build some more.

You're only allowed 3 missionaries at any time. No more, no less. I think it applies across all faiths that you have present in your cities, don't think you can have 3 missionaries per religion. If you hover over the missionary icon in the city screen, it should say how many are left that you can build.

You can actually have more than 3 missionaries as long as they are of different religions. I've never had more than 3 of one religion + 1 of another, so I'm not sure if there are other rules, for example, you could have 3 of one religion and only two of the next, but I don't think there is.

I've noticed that after the 1.52 patch, it seems it's now more likely that a religion will spread in a city which already has several religions. I don't know if it's my imagination though. Before 1.52 i used to have a real hard time spreading more than four religions to one city.

Just one more supid question about religion-spread.
Religion spreads also on its own. Would it be doable to discover all religions but allow only one to spread all-over the world so that every civs have the same one?

Possibly, but I guess the best way to do that would be through conquest while using the Theocracy civic to prevent spread of non-state ones. Would have to be on a pretty easy level so you can get all the religion techs before anyone else.

If you were the first to discover all religions, which is possible if you have that strategy in mind from the start of the game, you still couldn't control which religons spread to your competitors through trade routes.
But with open border agreements, you would be able to spread one specific religion to them with missionaires. This being their first religion, since you are the one that "is supposed" to get them all, they would probably select it for their state religion.
This way, it would be possible to spread one religion over all the world, as long as no other civ discovers a religion. In which case you would have to Convert them.
If you do go for this in a game, be sure to build the shrine for that religion ;)

Speaking about stupid questions about religion: on some religions I found I also get a missionary and on some I don't.
What's the logic?

for the first three religions (buddh, hidu, judaism) you don't receive a missionary. for the others, you do

The logic is probably, that the later religions should have more chances to spread.
The earlier religions have more time to build missionaries, so the later religions get one for free.

Hey, he stopped twitching, maybe he got over his religious stuff... *ckkshhtsh* Ring ring ring bannana phone, It's no bologny, doo doo bee doo bee doo......

However, the more religions a city has, the harder it is for new ones to spread there. I don't know the exact percentage chances. But it easier to spread a new religion in a city where only one religion is present as opposed to in a city where three or four religions are already established.

May be not impossible to found all religions but devilishly hard. I can either get Buddhism or Hinduism but the only time I can get both is when I get one from a hut and was already working on the other.

Even as the Indians (starting tech Mysticism) there just isnt enough time to research both Meditation and Polytheism before the AI.

I have found this too. I dont know the percentage chance but have had missionary after missionary fail to spread the 3rd or 4th religion.

Plus you can't spread your state religion to any other civ that is a Theocracy, if I am remembering the rules right. :mischief:

I have to bring my rule book to work. Do something useful with my time.

I should do the same thing. I obviously need to learn the rules a bit more. :crazyeye:
