Well citizens, I thought this might be the case. I have private communication from Consular Ren: he intends his name Reneaux be applied to the planned River Bend spot near Dellham. For this reason, we are immediately renaming our new city.

Regia Civitas (Capital) BUILT
ThunderFalls (has Roads!) BUILT
President - New Dellville BUILT 3200 BC : DellHam
Elysium (Gems) BUILT 3050 BC
Vice-President - Marl Downs
Domestic Advisor - Mordhiem?????
Military Advisor - Reneaux - he wants the River Bend spot
Foreign Minister - Civvium
Science Advisor - ?????
Deputy Domestic Advisor - Grand Ronville
Deputy Military Advisor - Myarsatoria
Deputy Foreign Minister - Gabba Gabba
Deputy Science Advisor - Ebor
Keeper of the City Names - Fort Anarchy
Governors (in order they register)

I also make a motion to our Presidents, that they name any new city the generic, or planned name. In this case, New Pure Green or New SE Green would have been fine. We have discussion referring to the temporary name Reneaux, but this will pass...

Further, I move that Reneaux be applied to the River Bend spot, so long as our current plan applies. Any objections?

This is a dumb idea because I, and others, have been referring to this city as Reneaux already in threads and it's going to be pretty confusing for people reading them. I say sorry Ren, but tough, the city is called Reneaux and River Bend will be called Marl Downs or whatever Duke wants when he comes back this weekend.

I think it's a good idea, because:
1) Ren had asked for this in threads long ago (the Original River Bend Site Plan was his, iirc),
2) he PM'd me just now with this request, and
3) the name Reneaux was chosen without formal process.
It's no big deal to rename it now, so that's my plan. Thank you for voting.

I think potential city names should be a list. Whenever a new city is founded, take the first name off the list.

I've always been confused about references to Reneaux...I just thought I was missing the plot.

If people want to name cities based on their location then perhaps the city name should be called "Village n" (where n is number). This village name should exist for 1 TURN chat, by which time the village founders would of decided what to call their fledgling city.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, it would be nice to name cities after people responsible for a significant event. As the most significant events we've had recently was the discovery of 2 other civs nearby, I think maybe we should name the city after Leowind.

If Ren really wants this namechange I'll do it.
I do think it's a bit silly though, the naming of cities after people participating in the game should be fun and not to be taken too seriously. (just my opinion...)

Thank you, Civ1. Do you sense a plan is forming so you can play Saturday? Need anything else?

Powersg, that would be way to simple ;)

Does anyone second my motion for the Pres to begin with the generic name, Gems being a good example?

Right now, we have a tie between Marl Downs and Ebor. And I guess Jayne voted for Leowind, but that name or his choice I don't know. I should read our constitution about this. btw, if anything is possible, maybe we can name the first Filler, on the Pure Green Between, Little Nemo?

A generic name in between discussions could be useful if we haven't already decided which comes next is case someone does feel stongly against their name being used in a particular location.

I guess, to name a city after Leowind - he needs to nominate how he'd like the city to be named.

I second your motion....provided that the name change occurs before/at the next turn. The newspaper can carry the headline "Gem City is renamed to New Name City: During the last turn local government decided to rename their city to commemorate the brave actions/ events off..."

I lost track of "SE Green" city and "Reneaux" city. Granted it didn't help much not really looking at the map in the turn thread. Doh!

I second that. I think it is too confusing if we choose the city location to refer to some character quirk or a personal trait of the namegiver. We could jump ahead on the list, though, if someone pleads for it three times.

I will be the second to second that. That's a good idea to reduce confusion.

Finally, a question of my own: Are we planning to carry over the remainders of the "turn n" list into "turn n+1" indefinitely, as we just did? That would be alright for me, as it would increase the chances of a city named after, say, former deputy advisors. Otherwise I'll just have to run for president and do something significant...

DISCLAIMER: This is not an endorsement of a coup d'etat. Nor does Mr. H stake a realistic claim on the presidency or seek nominations to it for any future term.

Or we could just have 70+ cities and give everyone his own...

BTW, I like "Little Nemo" :D never read it, though.

From our Constitution:

Section M: Naming Rites

Article 1: Naming rights for new cities will be given following the Chain of Command. When more than one citizen has the same spot in the COC (example - "Elected Officials" group) rank will be determined by their seniority as a citizen (who signed the Registry first). This priority chain will be rearranged by elections as different people move up and down the Chain of Command.

Article 2: Provinces may be named by the Domestic Advisor.

Now, we have not exactly been doing this, and I like what we've been doing, voting on a slate of names. And Jayne's idea is interesting too. Let's try this:

The Current governent can propose names for cities, and they have priority over past deputies, but not the prior elected officials. That is sort of what we have been doing. And max of 20? City names polled at any one time. Including perhaps one 'wild card name' per Jayne's idea.

Anyway, that means Civ1 keeps a top spot, I Ainwood Jayne and Leowind move in (and others, please post your authority and desired name) above Grand Ronville, then (I suggest) the prior Deputies, and the new Deputies come last. Anyone gets only one shot, so Civ1 does not get two for example. Of course, to keep it interesting: if someone has been elected, named a city, and reelected, they get a new choice of name, being a Very Important Person.

btw, Marl Downs is winning at this point, and we've reserved Reneaux for the River Bend, no vote on that one, ok?

Next turn, I'll tackle the Provinces...

The proposed rules, while perhaps fair, were gerrymandered by me to slot "Little Nemo" for the First Filler, the Pure Green Between. :)

Good: Aonia, Chryshe, Isidis, Hesperia, Solis, Xanthe. We'll use the first two, and must decide upon a boundary. Someone may have suggested we include RC TFalls Elysium et al as one. Then the River area is another. The new city is a question, but should probably be included with Dellham -- even though it's close to our Capital, it's a very long walk, and we can't swim.

I voted Marl Downs. Sorry for the troubles but I suggested Reneaux for that site when I first proposed we build a city there. I'm almost sure I have refered to that site as the Reneaux site before too. On a side note: I believe Mordhiem's namesake was Mordhiemia...
