I see nothing embarassing about doing what one enjoys. In the USA, it is called the pursuit of happiness and it is directly protected by the US Constitution.
Enjoy it while it lasts!

Those are wise words you should take from your friend
Wastin. They mean a lot, also to me, and we're very similar.
I understand your negative feelings, they come from frustration about the lack of control over your behaviour, but what you're not seeing is, that you decided for CIV, and that you're the best CIV Player in the whole world, and not everybody thinks as trivial about such things as the philistines do. Being the best CIV player basically means, that you're a player with a dedication that others could not bring up, that you're so resilient to what you feel is bad, but still don't go away from it, like 99% of the normal humans couldn't, that is you, someone with more strength and power than most, but with the inability to use his power for things that aren't his.
Get free from what other people think you should be / do, there's only one person that really matters, and that's you,
WastinTime.
Your friend.
Seraiel, this might be a bit of an ask, but is there any chance you could provide a rough guestimate of how much culture your produced from all sources.
What sources do we have?
Specialists, Commerce (Culture Slider), Culture Bombs, Built Culture, Buildings, Multipliers.....Spies lol. Anything else?
I realise that this is probably impossible but...perhaps your sharp mind can give a guesstimate....
It's actually very simple, because I still remember that game very well. I got pictures in my mind that 30% of the Culture came form normal Culture buildings, 70% came from Cottages, and the rest came from everything else, meaning, Cottages made the main part of the Culture, Culture-buildings themseles played a significant role, everything past that were peanuts.
To see the Culture, simply look at the screenshots in this thread, I remember having posted screens of all important times of those cities, those screens show dates, and they show numbers. I still remember that when beginning to run 100% culture, cities were making something like 200 / turn, they soon went up to 400 / turn, and in the end they reached 800 / turn, basically because of the growing number of pop and the Cathedrals built in the meantime.
Culture bombs played a role for 2 cities: I think I got 7 GAs and used 5 on the GP-Farm to get it to legendary (5*2500 = 22500 so very close to the 25000 needed) and I think to have used to on the L-city that wasn't the capital (but here I had very bad coordination, because of those 5000 points, only 3000 were really needed) .
To beat this game it's probably advisable, to build the Hermitage in the Capital, and to use a PHI leader, and then bomb L2 and L-GP to Legendary.
