Don't like something? Don't have the political capital to change it? Bribe Private Companies!

The money shot:

At one recent meeting, Seema Verma, whom Trump picked to oversee the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs, stunned insurance industry officials by suggesting a bargain: The administration would fund the CSRs if insurers supported the House Republican bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

“It made no sense,” said one official at the meeting.

I like how draining the swamp looks like when you fire all the technocrats in charge of the machinery.

Check yo history. Obama wanted a public option. He couldn't get it because Trump's lawyer-turned-FBI-head changed his mind about it at the last moment.

Eh, the father of the NHS, Aneurin Bevan famously said of the GPs opposing the NHS he "stuffed their mouths with gold" to get the NHS into law.

subsidies...lots of subsidies

Subsidies are a, the lubricant of social policy. Sorry?

The Republicans didn't offer a subsidy, they wanted public political backing for their dumb idea by dangling money that the insurers were already entitled to through the very thing the Republicans were trying to kill.

It made no sense. A person there even said so.
