As much as I love this this game series, there has always been one flaw that has kind of ticked me off, which could be settled by some tweaks perhaps.

Make more game turns, so that the units you have can actually go to war. At least in epic setting or something similar.

BUT, increase time for building things, research, worker improvements etc. Extra time needed for workers won't make it much more of a hassle with micromanagement, and the micromanagement for units will only be a problem when engaged in a war, and isn't that the time when you want to be able to control them and campaign alexander style? :)

Also, reduce the cost to upgrade your army when you reach new technology by a large margin. I always cringe when I see a vast array of axemen, archers, riflemen, infantry, horsearchers, grenadiers and cannons and machine gunners in the battlefield. Or perhaps allow your units stationed in cities to disband into the production of new units or someting. Just something!

Also, why not consider adding game settings that allows for certain timeperiods in on random maps, where you duke it out? Like classical to medivial only etc? But this may come with or be better suited in expansions or modules. Like adding lots of new specific techs and improvements etc. Personally, I feel this game shines the most in scenario form from one age to another, with the rise and fall of empires and conquest, culture etc. It just gets too rushed 4000BC to 2000AD, and too many bizarre side-effects.

Lots of room to play around here with expansion modules. I'm looking forward to some great fan scenarios as well. There was some great work in the past, so I think we'll see something nifty this time as well.

Anyways, what I mean is that generally, I would like them to focus on certain timescales more in terms of units and techs and give it a bit more "scenario" feel when playing, because playing through the game start to finish feels so very limited. So much to do and so little time to do it...

Religion and culture elements was a great addition btw! But regarding some of the civics, why not allow hurry production methods like drafting and womens suffrage even if you don't have the civic but with 100% penalty in cost or something, or perhaps more.

Just a bit of rant from my early experiences with this game. It's still great fun of course, but I would like to see them improve on the military part of the game, as it feels lacking. Wow, to think that this series still goes on today from the day I played it on my amiga.. -93/94 was it?

Edit: Dang. I posted this in the wrong forum...
