Revival of the Hamstalfar

Why not make it the opposite?
Have the civ gain an instant bonus in terms of units or money or something else.

And have that bonus depend on the number of trade routes.
Maybe get a golden age that lasts for N turns, where N is the average number of trade routes in your cities?
Or get a flat X gold per trade route per city.

An instant bonus is boring. I tend to avoid them for worldspells.

The exception being Worldbreak...
It newer gets boring.

So this civ is traders based? What about an worldspell that "Charms" all leaders and unlocks all trading options with them and allowing bargains for a small amount of turns? Meanwhile, foreign trade yield is sharply increased...
Nah forget it... nobody would like it.

It would be cool if the world spell granted an otherwise unobtainable tech (or unlocked it somehow) and "x" number of a unique luxury resource (where x is equal to the number of players in the game-or something scaled to it).

The tech could give slightly increase trade yields across the board and carry a high AI weight and beaker cost. Therefore it could be traded to other leaders for new techs.

The luxury resources would also be traded for other resources. Essentially the extra resources should be a resource that they would get no benefit from having more than one of.

Edit: I suppose it would need a tech requirement in order to cast it or it would easily be popped right away. "Trade" would be a good (and obvious) spot.

seems your german genes are shining through... in a damn big, glancing and nuclear sunblast of pure irony.
i would call you a madman if i wouldnt be so keen on instantly trying the module myself... am i blind, or isnt it downloadable yet?
one thing about the mechanic... i dont like the idea of a leashed hero, but ill have to try. and what about a giant, mutated, fiery and furry hamster from hell, replacing the beast of agares?

I'm not sure the AI would use that well.... And I don't like the idea of a tech for a worldspell. Already working on removing civ-specific techs where possible.

I'll take that as a compliment.

It is not downloadable yet, as it requires content from 1.31. And was the cause of much of that content. I just felt you all had a right to know what I'd been up to instead of working on 1.31.

Now that you are free to work on 1.31, does that mean we can expect it by the start of the next year?

Also, do you mind if I take the format you used for your blog post and use it for a post here for my civ when it is done? (with minor adjustments)

Within a week? awesomeness!!!!!!!!!
Well, I'm off to class...

Well your timeframe estimates have been much better than other game devs I've followed.

Is it weird that I'm more excited for the Hamstalfar than for the rest of 1.31?

Hopefully within a week. Depends on school.

A week? That's shorter than I expected.

I have a suggestion of a UU: A hamster replacement of Shadow unit (No-name). Basically is an upgrade of the Hamsterfrupfel (or whatever the name) assasin, and replaces the Shadow. However it does not require CoE in the city. Is weaker than the Shadow itself, however it has a very big chance of withdrawal and many first strikes to compensate.
It mains goal would be to pack a punch on your enemies and cripple them, not to kill them, that's why it inflict plague on contact. (Like the dread)

In techical aspects:

National unit, (4 allowed).
*# Requires Guild tech.
*# replaces Shadow.
*5:strength: /4 defense. +3 poison
*3-4 first strikes.
*Invisible to most units.
Can explore rival territory.
Autorized to acquire Iron/Copper/mithril weapons.
Forbidden to acquire: Marksman (Is because of this unit main goal, to cripple potent enemies and use withdrawal for that).
80% withdrawal.
Starts with Plague Carrier.

I was thinking on small hamsters that run to their enemies and cut their skin, enter into their flesh, and bite from inside, inflicting infections or, in the worst cases, killing them. But due to their small size, they're not usually capable of killing strong units before the enemy retaliate and fight back.
What do you think about?

If I may attach my self to that idea for a moment. I think they should be called the Dire Hamster... lol
But seriously now. By the lore you described they sound much more like a Berserker UU...

Lose the Stealth and make a text about how they are a part of the Hamster Population that dislikes all the complacency and upper class life. So they shun the normal hamster ways to indulge in their natural instincts, thus becoming once again like their brethren in the wild. Thus becoming dire...

BTW. Why do you newer come to my thread with ideas like that?

What thread? /Um dumb question, but I don't truly know what thread you're talking about.

I was thinking about an upgrade to the Hamsterpfeu (whatever) as a replacement of the Shadow.

For world spell, you could try "Go for the Eyes!", with a temerary boost to damage, or give your units an effect that reduces enimy defense; to represent aming for the weak points in enimy armour (like, the eyes.)
