From the journals of Chi Tatakau, the fifth president of the United Federation of Japan:
October 17, Year 26 of our beloved Federation.
As I enter my second year as president, again I realize how very little I actually knew about the state of our great State. Not that our state as a State is a horrible state, but our State is increasingly in need of building up its infrastructure, and not its armies. I have recognized this, and ordered the budget so that just over 66% will be put towards building aforementioned infrastructure all over Japan, and even into the east coast of China, where much progress has been made.
Speaking of China, I met with some of the tribal leaders last week. All seemed very happy with what we have done, modernizing them, and bringing them into the Federation that we have. Of course, no territory will ever enter our Federation that does not want to. We are a peaceful nation, but we are ready for war when necessary.
More young men and women continue to enlist in our divisions. What an encouragement, and also a blessing that we do not have to send them anywhere.
I still have my scientists putting in some work on this "superweapon." They do not know the exact date of readiness, but they assure me within the decade, or so they hope.
The Plastic Paperclips have a new album out today. It is selling quite well.
It has been a great tradition of the presidents so far to write these journals, in the hopes that historians of later years will read them, and understand the great, yet welcome, burden upon being the leader of such a wonderful country.
As always, yours faithfully,
Chi Tatakau, Fifth President of the United Federation of Japan
