Oklahoma was devided between Native Americans and Settlers. Chief John, the foreign advisor of Chief Black Crow had helped negotiate a treaty between these factions. The settlers will keep the land they had control over, while the Natives would be given more economic power. Oklahoma would also sign a treaty creating the Great Plains Alliance between Oklahom and the Great Plains.

Meanwhile, a treaty with the disorganized governments in the Midwest has confirmed the buying of eastern land. Hopefully this shall start a trend of peacfully restoring the old ways in the east.

Chief Black Crow recognizes that one of the biggest obsticles to restoring native ways is the decimation caused by the old American Government to the plains fauna. We are considering inviting experts from Australia to state their oppinions on solving the problem. We also request that Australia respect the way of life of the Australian Aborigional people, since their history is similar to ours and in some way, that of the Republic of Antpode Fauna its self.

54F* Federal Elections

OxJem.png

The Democrats easily won another election, securing President James Van Pelt** a second four-year term in office. Toshiro Kobayashi returned to Congress*** as Speaker****, though Foreign Minister Gabrielle Arbour might challenge him for the job.

The Socialist Republicans, who in the last election seemed to have recovered after their disastrous defeat in 42F, were the big losers in this election. The extreme-right, militarist American Party (formerly the Patriots Party) has taken its place as the third-largest party in Congress. On the other hand, the Patriots Party offshoot, the Unity Party, faced political oblivion, having secured just one seat in this election. Other small parties are also having a tough time; the Radical Party is seeking to merge with the SRP, while the Liberal Left are toying with joining up with the Democrats. Citizens' Rights, having lost all its seats outside British Columbia, vowed to remain unaffiliated and "keep the bastards honest".

(*Beringia uses the "Federation Calendar", which numbers years from when the Federation of North America, the predecessor of the FBR, was proclaimed during the Vancouver Uprising. Dates are written as (for example) "Year 94F" or "94F" to be read fully as "Year 94 of the Federation" or "the 94th year of the Federation". The numbering system used in the Gregorian Calendar (ie Anno Domini) is still widely used despite not being official, and dates are often written with the AD date first and the Federation year in parenthesis.

**Beringia has a semi-Presidential system

***The Beringian Congress is a unicameral legislature, unlike the old Canadian Parliament and US Congress

****His full title is "Speaker of the House", a phrase inherited from US politics. The term "Prime Minister" is sometimes used interchangably, particularly in the Canadian states.)

Economic Reforms Announced

President James van Pelt went into the Election promising comprehensive economic reforms, and it seemed to have worked. Now he has to make it happen.

Today the President unveiled his ambitious plan, consisting of a series of government-funded programs and public-private initiatives to be done over the next ten years. Parts of it, as critics have been quick to point out, look like a milder version of the radical leftist reforms initiated by the Socialist Republicans in 39F, and which led to their disastrous electoral defeat at the hands of the Conservative-Libertarians. Others, including prominient economists, demographers and scientists, praised the plan, which included expansion of infrastructure, increased fundings for education and research, and a small business loans program.

Massive "Airship" Launched

(Excerpts from Seward City News on 5th November 54F)

They call it an airship, but this is no gas-filled airships of old. The massive, sleek metal structure looks more like something out of science fiction...

Today it will dominate the harbor in Victoria, British Columbia, where a crowd is expected to gather to see it soar into the evening sky. The craft, named "Shuffle" by its creators, is a triumph of Beringian engineering, in more ways than one. Apart from the complex structure of the craft itself, it will fly with a modified Super Beaver electric engine which runs on the now iconic Iggy battery, both developed in Beringia...

Stanford: "Hello, and welcome to the Worldview podcast, your source for news and politics from around the globe. I am your host, Harold Stanford, here today with our guest Doctor Nathaniel Kwan, a professor of Far Eastern Relations at the University of British Columbia and a descendant of a refugee from the former Amur Republic, to discuss the recent events that have occurred in Manchuria. Doctor, welcome to the show.

Kwan: "I am glad to be here."

Stanford: "Now, there has been a lot of buzz about the recent annexation of the Martian Colony in Far East Siberia by Manchuria. I understand that this is a rather unusual move for the Divine Empire?

Kwan: "Yes, definitively. When Emperor Zhu succeeded his father, he began a policy of extreme isolation. New military and settlement campaigns were halted; restrictions on foreign access to the Sacred City were tightened. The Divine Empire sort of became the modern day Hermit Kingdom, albeit slightly less belligerent. They have somewhat faded from the public eye due to a lack of real tension amongst their neighbors. This act definitively indicates a severe change in their foreign policy.”

Stanford: “Now, some analysts are wondering why the colony was annexed, as opposed to, say, Dreagonsong. Most would have thought that, if Manchuria was going to expand, it would have turned its attention to the west and to the south. Do you have any thoughts on this?”

Kwan: “Ah yes. I think the answer is more obvious than some believe it to be. I believe that they are, in fact, planning to expand into China. If you remember, back in Emperor Yu’s reign, the Divine Empire had attempted to settle into Mongolia. Now, this ultimately failed, mainly due to the fact that the style of living they had imported could not be sustained there. But another key issue was the lack of proper communications technology. At the time, the technology in that field was inadequate, and somewhat faulty. The fact that record sandstorms were reported those years did not help matters. Now, this is what I believe the real reason for the colony’s annexation is. If you look in a few of the photos that were taken during the occupation of the colony, you’ll notice a certain landmark sitting up in the distance; the colony’s communications relay. Not only would this relay allow the Divine Empire to communicate to its forces in all kinds of weather, it is also capable of resisting all but the hardiest attempts to jam and disrupt communications. Hence, when settlements are threatened by raiders or rebel groups, they would be able to respond without delay.”

In Memphis, a Pharaoh stands on a balcony overlooking the modern city. Ramses XII, while pondering the power of the Gods, knows that the only way to fuel this great power is through prayer. When orders came to expand into the lands that were once Carthage, into the lands south of Egypt, and into the islands of the Aegean, the settlers did so with religious gusto. Thousands of men and women are at work now, building roads and public buildings. Unemployment is at all time lows.

In the territory that makes up the Warlord States of Canada, the Placement Competition has finished for the year. The Placement Competition, also known as the Great Game, is an intense five day competition of drill, strength, accuracy, command, and mental fortitude for boys between the ages of thirteen and seventeen. These boys are vying for the attention of the Great Warlord. This occurs at a time where the Warlords of Canada aggressively expand into territory once controlled by the nations of Canada and the United States.

In the Europa Colony, we have this interesting summary of Europan current events from the New Europan News

Following a message from the Motherland to extend Europa’s interests here on Earth, Jacoby Merhoose has annexed the Islands of Hispaniola & Puerto Rico, in addition to a strip of land along the Gulf of Mexico. Thousands of people from the crowded city of New Houston are migrating to these new territories, hoping to buy a piece of land to call their own. Governor Merhoose has ordered the construction of several new cities to house the migrants.

In other news, a border skirmish with Mexican Guerillas has raised the possibility of a War with Mexico. Governor Merhoose has declined comment, but rumors abound that the construction of a new military is currently underway.

Finally, an extremely rare, venomous spider was found yesterday in the home of Governor Merhoose. The debate over whether it was an Australian Assassin or simply a wandering arachnid rages on. So far, interrogation of the spider has yielded no results.

Shaka Nmanda, leader of Zimbabwe, spared no time is establishing what will be the statues quo in his Near Abroad. A PSEDZ-sponsored coup ousted the leader of Mozambique, establishing a puppet state. With his borders secured, Shaka sponsored the building of eight settlements in South America, much to the chagrin of Brazil. Domestically, two factories have been reopened dedicated to building war supplies to support the expansion of the army. Due to the military build-up along the Angolan-PSEDZ border and the establishment of a puppet state in Mozambique, Angola has launched a crash build-up of the military.

Meanwhile, in the RAF...

PM Malfred Hops was on a month long tour, visiting all across Australia and checking on the progress of the Revolution. Last week, he had visited the Great Barrier Reef, where high levels of illegal immigration from the Indonesian reefs was plaguing the metropolis. After speaking with concerned cuttlefish Mayor Joshua Oppenheimer, the PM flew south to have a townhouse meeting in Adelaide led by his koala Deputy Prime Minister Richard Taft. Next Hops arrived at the RAF War Academy in Can-of-Berries to watch as General Claw, a crocodile, led his Reptile Corps in a military parade. To top off the tour, a passerine orchestra sang the RAF National Anthem, Beasts of Australia.

In Revolutionary News, the Great Revolution has spread to Tasmania, as part of the RAF PR Campaign "Tasmania for the Devils". And across another sea, to the north, a violent guerilla war has broken out, led by Alexander Nape, an orangutan, against the Homo-Sapien led New Guinean government. PM Hops has ordered official RAF involvement, with several emu divisions landing on the southern shores of New Guinea.

Who can sum up the Ukraine better than the Ukraine itself?

Current Events in the Hemanate

  • The Hetmanate of Rostov has joined Ukraine. Although Rostov and the Hetmanate enjoyed cordial relations on part of a common Cossack heritage, Hetman Vasil Nikolaiovich cited cultural differences between Russia and Ukraine as an impediment to a union. However, due to an economic recession that has occurred in Rostov, the Hetman has agreed to make the city and the surrounding land a part of the larger Hetmanate.
  • Admiral Oleksander Denyski of has organised an evacuation campaign of the remaining humans in Australia, citing past events such as the the persecution of Ukrainians in the USSR as a motivation. "Never again must horrible events such as the Holodomor and the Holocaust occur. It is our duty to put a stop to the tragic events in Australia before every last man, woman and child in Australia perishes" Denyski said in an interview in a Kievian Daily interview Tuesday. The 1st Squadron of the newly created Black Sea Fleet is to depart to Darwin next Monday.
  • The official Ukrainian embassy opened in Sevastopol on 2:30 Wednesday. Anastasiya Mykolayshyn, the appointed Ambassador to the Black Sea Nation remarked in a press conference, "this is a joyous occaison for the people of our two great nations. We look forward to a long and cordial relationship to the people of Crimea in the future."
  • Hetman Petro Demyanko has announced a campaign to bring the Hetmanate's banner into Volhynia and Galicia. The 1st and 3rd Battalions of the Polesian Host has departed Chernihiv in Wednesday evening.
  • Minister of Industry Roman Kostyantynko has declared a new Industrial campaign, based on advancing Ukrainian technology to a level like India, as opposed to largely relying on Soviet and post-Soviet assets.

MEANWHILE, in New Imperial Spain...

King Castillo's goal when he finally officially founded New Imperial Spain was to re-glorify what was a failed state in the 21st century. This would mean winning wars, economic prosperity, and making an Empire. Starting out with technology from 2010, he had expanded his modern kingdom to most of Iberia, casting out the old Portuguese government. Alas, he failed to hold northern Spain, which became part of a Sicilian Nation. As of today, however, he successfully leads Spain into economic expansion. With his diplomatic skills, he had sealed a loosely-held alliance with a nation in the Black Sea to secure the remnants of the Portuguese nation, which he appropriately named Exiled Portugal. He began reconstruction of the Armada, the fabled great Spanish navy. His last order of business was to rebuild the Empire. He expanded into northern Africa, bringing old Spanish provinces back under their true flag. He'd even got a colony in the Philippines. But these tasks were still not complete, and he had his final, greatest aspiration....

TOBETHEGREATESTPOKEMONMASTEREVERTo have Spain lead the world as the greatest scientific power to this day.

Greece's military story is more interesting and a tad garbled. However, General Christos of Greece fought a pitched battle against Turkish Armies. Turkey had been hit hard by the Revolution and has descended into a mix of 21st and 15th Century combat. Many frontline soldiers had come armed with swords and shotguns and the artillery pieces were really just good ol' fashioned bronze cannons. Long story short, it seems that anywhere from thousands to hundreds of thousands died but Greece won and is slowly reverse-engineering the shotguns.

On the bridge of the Europa Subpod Jupiter’s Jewel…

Jacoby Merhoose: Well, I do believe that this was an excellent year. Dorothy, fetch me a drink.
Dorothy: Yes sir. Will you be needing anything else, sir?
Jacoby Merhoose: No thank you, that’ll be all for now.
(Dorothy leaves the bridge)
Jacoby Merhoose: Captain Kwaeng, status report?
Kwaeng: The Jupiter’s Jewel is operating at peak efficiency, sir.
Jacoby Merhoose: Excellent. Prepare the ship for a weapons test.
Kwaeng: Yes sir.
(The Jupiter’s Jewel turns 65 degrees to starboard. A muted thump is heard as a pressure torpedo on the port side fires. The torpedo continues on for 1850 meters, until it hits the faux submarine that had been positioned there for this test. The submarine, crippled, is dragged to the dark depths by gravity.)
Jacoby Merhoose: I can’t see through the murky waters at this depth. Did we succeed?
Kwaeng: According to the data gathered by sensors before the detonation, the torpedo succeeded beyond all expectations. Indeed, our sensor buoys, even those positioned a kilometer away, registered the impact of the pressure wave.
Jacoby Merhoose: Perfect.
(Dorothy returns to the bridge. She hands the Governor a glass of Champagne)
Dorothy: How was the test, sir?
Jacoby Merhoose: It was a success. It was a resounding success, in fact. Now, what with our new Navy & the forts established on the Florida Peninsula, Europa's control over the Gulf is absolute.
