RFC: BtS Bug Reports

Just to get back on topic and share something weird that I've seen in RFC. Playing as the
English, 600AD start. Not a great game but in the lead, but I notice something odd that I've
seen a couple of times before. It's after 1900 and I've settled Kingston, Jamaica long ago.
But all that time, since about 1700, a bunch of French units have been squatting next door
on Santo Domingo doing nothing. Amazingly, they include some riflemen, a war elephant,
a horse archer and 3 settlers! Why didn't they found a city? What are they doing?
Are they on holiday or something? Or is this Napoleon's fabled "Lost Legion"? Is this a bug?:lol:

I saw the same thing playing a Carthage game after it was won. France dropped 3 units including a settler on a caribbean island. THEN, some turns later, it dropped a settler to found New Orleans (the first settler didn't found the city in Caribbean).
France was the 1st to drop a settler in the Caribbean. Then France went on extending in North America. Then dropped another settler on another island, then on the same first island. They got 3 unused settlers waiting for God knows what. And they are settling north america without any problems. No cultural borders problems, no city limit reached.
(my mod version is the last one without the last firaxis patch, i'm using 3.13 BTS)

Another bug I met earlier in the same game. I noticed I can't find any means to hire mercenaries (in the mercenary screen). Two mercenaries were there, I got enough money but I can't find any means to hire them (I tried to double click everywhere, to drag and drop, to find a button...). I had just used this feature once before (I'm a RFC newbie), maybe it's my error but I think it was a bug. Carthage unique power...

I'm not sure where to put this, but when I build wonders for "all cities on this continent", island cities aren't counted. For example if I'm England and I build the Statue of Liberty in Dublin, only my Irish cities get the free specialist. Or if I'm Maya and I build the Three Gorges Dam, the islands don't get power.

Continents are defined differently to how you might expect. See this link to a picture that might help explain.

Welcome. You aren't the only new RFC player to have this difficulty.

There is a tiny button in the top left of your screen with an "axe" symbol. Click this and it will take you to the Mercenary window. Or I think the keyboard shortcut is Alt-M.

He's already in the mercenaries screen, blizzrd. I've seen this as well: sometimes there are one or two mercenaries that, even though you have the money, can't be hired. The button isn't there. You can look at their stats, but they seem to be just for show. While playing Carthage, I've seen six mercenaries for hire, and the two I wanted, I couldn't get. All were around the same price and maintenance cost.

Other times, its the only mercenary, and the hire button doesn't show up. For instance, I have 237g, and I want to spend the 35g on the swordsman onscreen (the only available unit), but it won't let me. It seems to happen mostly while playing Carthage for me.

I'm not sure if this counts as a bug report but just a small error I noticed while playing the game.

The Viking city in Finland is called Abo when it should be Åbo. Picture related, also wikipedia link here.

This is terrible because I live there

The attached game seems to go into an infinitely long "waiting for other civilizations" when you hit the return key.

Note that I started as India, then switched to Maya.

I have a problem with loading a game. I've never had this problem before, and before I had just saved the game and quit, so I don't know what caused it. The problem is when I go onto the beyond the sword game and click on my china save to go onto the mod, and click open, the mouse turns into the regular white mouse and the game never loads. So I tried another path and I went onto rhyes and fall of civilization patch first, and then loaded the game. When I clicked on the game it reloaded the mod, and when it got done with the intro-movie, the colors get darker and the mouse turns into the regular white mouse. When I slash down the game and try and bring it back up, I get an error that says at the top Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library, it says the program is civ beyond the sword and this is the message:
"This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

My last note is that when I load a new civ in rhyes and fall everything works fine, and when I play beyond the sword without doing the rhyes and fall mod everything works fine.

maybe you saved it with a previous Civ4/RFC version ?

As the Russians I just got my first great depression (I ran free market for 200 years, so I count that as an achievement), so I did the sensible thing, and immediately switched to communism.

The Depression is still there. I thought switching out of free market was supposed to end it?

So it started in 1935, I adopted communism in 1935, and I still got the event in 1936. It seems to have stopped in 1937. Is this a bug, or does it just take an extra turn to stop the depression?

I had this problem as well for the first time recently. I think it is something to do with the system resources Civ needs - I usually run RFC in Medium graphic detail, but it reset to High after I updated to 3.17. Lo and behold, I got this problem late (mid-1800s) into a Mayan spaceship game. I switched back to Med detail and I've not had it again - including a Mayan SS win to completion.

However, I did abandon the first game and restarted, so I don't know if you can rescue your game in progress this way.

I've experienced this as well - it seems to take a couple of turns to end a GD after switching from Free Market. I don't know if this is intentional or not.

I don't know if someone already asked you this,
the forum has lots of pages,
but WHERE IS ITALY?????
France captured all of its cities, and it seems like very strange to me.
as italy is kinda significant in the real world.
-----
I speak french to men, spanish to god, italian to women, and german to my horse.

FOR SURE
historically rome sure descends into civil war, barbarian invasion
O.o
the originally italian cities could declare independence and turn into italy
even with a roman leader, BUT PLEAASEEE ADD ITALY
