RFC Classical World

Hmmm, having deleted and reinstalled the whole mod from SVN, run clean up and updated I am still no nearer seeing Mediolanum or Saguntum. Or Kourion on Cyprus for that matter, which used to spawn around the 200s BC IIRC.

No python exceptions for Rome, but I'm getting a bucketload for the Arabs. Example attached.

rev 178

fixed the iron near Aachen, its east of there now

fixed Mediolanum

put Saguntum back on the 320BC map

fixed the AIWars python exceptions

Regarding the Three Kingdoms period setup, Shu Han should respawn with Ba as well as Shu, and Sun Wu should at the very least flip Chu as well, and possibly also Min Yue and Nan Yue.

@ thrash4ever:
here is a city name spreadsheet with the new China coastline. it has water, marshes and peaks marked on it and major city sites in yellow. I have not moved any of the names yet, except where the tiles were covered by unsettleable terrain. can you help us with the gaps?

just for fun, and having watched that you are open to map enhancements, I created a better Mongolian landscape adding some important rivers and lakes..

also I put some resources that exist in the region (not sure for the wheat though :/ ). Finally I gave some more space to move in Siberia and made the transition from woodlands to forests and then dense forests a bit smoother..

let me know if you liked it

edit: also some cow to the south west would be great, to represent the yaks in the region

I agree that part of the map needs to be better and I like most of your changes. Once China is done we can move on.

some pictures of the changes:

Getting another exception as Arabs (attached). Didn't realise there were multiple exceptions happening last time - I think this is the last one to whack.

Mediolanum and Saguntum are present and correct :)

Looks good, although have you removed the two floodplains from Gu-zan? This pic makes it look like they are gone, which is going to make that city very food poor.

agreed. I will fix it.

Fur between Aachen and Paris in forest thus not accessible.

800AD keep islam out of europe triggers in 700 AD and likely vice versa for the 700AD religious building goal.

moved the iron east to the Rhine area. the goals are in the right order now.

sprt,

I know you have to consider many things while choosing a start date, but 140 BC for Parthians is ... 100 years too late. Please lets think about how to make things a little more accurate even though it might require some rework in spawning mechanics.

Right now Parthia spawns at the end of the reign of Mithridates I, greatest ruler of Parthia (140 BC) (while their leader is Arsaces, 247 BC). Its like spawining Russians in Peter's times. Many things went back and forth with Seleucids but by 200 BC Parthia was fully independent kingdom.

300px-Rome-Seleucia-Parthia_200bc.jpg

So let them start earlier with only 1 core Province Parthia. With less troops. Let human player experience gradual rise of empire.

yes they could spawn earlier but sometimes the spawn date is based on the flip. for example I wanted Rome to flip all of Italy so I didn't spawn them until roughly when they controlled all of Italy. same with Parthia. the spawn date is based on the best time for them to flip Persia and Media. I'll think about it.

I know that AI can be hopelessly boxed without flips, but we can always find some middle ground, some compromise. I am not saying please spawn Parthia at 249. Somewhere close to 200 with less core and less settlers. With their UU bonus against Seleucid's UU the outcome of war should not be in trouble. And, well, sometimes Seleucids can survive, this kingdom was able to revive itself many times, oddly enough.

Another request is about Antigonids. I know we talked about it before and I asked about Ankyra being their capital, more or less resembling situation in 320 BC. But just in 30 years things changed dramatically and Antigonids are in general associated with Macedonia, not Asia Minor. Pella was Macedonian capital during 399–167 BC, the year when Macedonian Antigonids got defeated by Romans. Even if this was not exact situation in 320 BC more than a century of Antigonid rule afterwards would be more accurately resembled with a capital in Europe not Asia!

Finally territory roughly corresponding to one controlled by ISIS did not have a single city 100 years after the game started on Parthian spawn, while having 4-5 good resources. Perhaps initial Seleucid start could use some extra city in area, we can research to find the most appropriate one. Either that or introduce desert there, I mean that spot did not look right from the horse back of my invaders :)

the Diadochi starting situation is one of the most fudged things in the mod. since it works as it is and a lot of things are balanced around it I don't want to touch it right now, but I agree it could be better.

the emptiness is because the Antigonids and Seleucids each start with a settler to found Antioch and Edessa but because those are front line areas in their war against each other they are reluctant. I have seen the cities get founded many times though.

I can confirm Antioch gets founded almost all the time, and Edessa very frequently is founded.

the map changes have been a bit delayed since after I finished India I couldn't resist trying to improve Anatolia, which I always thought could look better. in doing so I discovered a bunch of fundamentally wrong things, city sites that were north of another city rather than south, islands and peninsulas that weren't the right size etc. the stretch of coastline between the toe of Italy and the Gulf of Corinth was pretty much missing entirely. Rome is now north of Salonika as it should be and the southern edges of Anatolia, the Pelopenese and Sicily are all roughly at the same latitude as they should be. most resources are the same. some cities are a bit more crowded.

here is a before and after look at the changes:
