RFC Europe playtesting feedback thread

Someone brought this up earlier in the thread but no one answered, or at least I couldn't find any replies, but are the executive units of the knight orders suppose to upgrade to pikemen? Once I got the tech for pikemen, I could no longer spread the Teutonic Order or any of the orders for that matter.

I think that was implemented at some time during alpha testing to stop the spread of military orders from some point on, I do not know why however.

I'm curious about what people might think of being able to build more than 1 executive at a time(max 3) like with missionaries or with execs in reg. RFC.

definitely cause there to be more cash floating around

Just tried a game as the Bulgarians. Monarch of course.

Pfft. The starting is just too easy. Free cities everywhere. I have a huge empire at 1100 My growth and production rates are really good too. I dont really like UU. But still... aborted game at 1300. Too easy. I dont believe the Turks have any chance at my Constantinople.

To be honest other than the tech rate, it felt like a viceroy game.

Played an emperor German game. Settled Wisbaden (2WN of start), not too good, 2W2N should be better(can hook later surphur and coal), Freiburg and Amsterdam(on dye). Because UHV comes before Dutch spawn, you have to settle Dutch land: rich, seafood, atlantic access.

Conquered Milan and Florence at start, built a few army, and Burgandy vassalized to me. Had Hungary and Norse as vassal too. Had tech rate at 0% for a long time (keep using spy before you build up science buildings). Built Cluny, Marco Polo, St. Sophia(Milan was Orthodox), Alhambra......was the first to discover printing press, public works and astronomy. Free teched for trading companies. Now it is 1520 and no one else has Astronomy yet. I have a large empire and conquered south and east Iberia. Not hard to have the largest army, not only in Europe, but also outnumber Arabia. I have all colonial projects till now, and steam power is discovered too...

With earlier spawn date now, Germany is easier.

The whole system has some problem... either a civ keep weak all the time, or they burst to superpower.

Well, according to my experience from playing normal RFC, some civs can be weaker than others, as long as it has easier UHVs (Mali in RFC), and has a UP that can help it when its weak (Byzantium in RFC:E)

Playing as England, there may be a bug in the first UHV, or I really missed something. I have settled 3 cities in Ireland, plus all of England, Scotland and Wales. With the French collapse, I conquered Calais, Paris, Brest, Nantes, Bordeaux, and Cherbourg in 1452 was wondering what i missed?

A screenshot or savegame would be very helpful to check if it is a bug or you have missed something. ;)

I will post both (or try to) This is one of those cases where provinces would really help. The instructions are not perfectly clear to me what I was supposed to do.

Because they eventually ceased to exist?

Here are 2 screenshots of my empire, plus the save in 1452.

Just started a game as Poland, as my English game just bummed me out...

Poland really starts with no production and not many resources. What plots are we "supposed" to settle? Shouldn't Warsaw be one of them? Seems like the "recommended" spots are surrounded by mud (which is unusable).

While city growth is now easier, lack of production and resources means that units and buildings take a long time to build, and growth needs to be halted early to stop my people form getting angry.

@Barak
You are actually missing Tours, which is in the area you have to capture. Its not easy visible in the reference folder because its all just green in this area. Sometimes you have to count boxes. :)

Where is the listing of what cities are in what areas? When I googled Aquitaine, it appeared that having Bordeaux would be enough, especially since Tours is NOT in Aquitaine.

There is no real list. You can find maps with the UHVs in the reference folder.

Usually the AI places the city Tours one spot north of its location in your game and that would be not in the UHV area. Perhaps it was just bad luck. But i guess the UHV area for Aquitaine should be a bit smaller. :)

One word: Rostock. This city can grow up to 26. And maybe Amsterdam....

Since apples have been removed as a resource, what is the purpose of the grocer? Should there be some inherent health from the building as it offers fresh fruits and vegetables?

On the topic of plagues, playing as England a plague in the early 1600s decimated my cities. 2/3 of my military was killed off. 8 Carracks, 4 Galleons were as well. The first turn after the plague subsided, the Dutch declared war, and they appeared to not lose a single unit, as each of their three cities had workers, Muskets galore and several Galleons. I also noticed that the Germans were also not hit hard by the plague.

Is the human hit harder by plagues than the AI? I always though part of the idea is to cull the herds of units that the AI builds, but in the case of the Dutch, they couldn't have built THAT many that even after a plague they still had a large army and navy.

How do I know what techs are for which era? In other words which are the industrial techs?

Where is the list of what techs are for what age? How will I know when I am researching an industrial age tech?
