RFCA - Arts thread

I think it's better to use a map of Asian origin instead of European, like this one:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Zhenghemap.jpg
Though this one doesn't quite fit for showing the whole world (It's just the first one i found)
I think the Indians also traveled a lot, maybe they made a map too.

btw, i tried to make a title screen this weekend, but DXTbmp screwed it up (It was always good for making flags). I can't find that stupid Gimp-plugin for dds anymore, so how do make them?

Thanks!

That's what i have imagined so far as the main menu background (Though a bit of text is still missing), with some music. I've spendt several hours on Saturday to do code the music in, but it didn't work. Stupid crap.
According to art and music, we shouldn't focus purely on china. But at least at the main menu we need to stick at one theme. And china is the first thing associated with asia imo.

I haven't tried yet. Long story short, the computer i play civ 4 with is about 50 kilometers away from here. And i won't be there for the next 3 weeks (this time for real:lol:)
I just saw on Esnaz' Mod that he made his bg by editing the dds file of BtS, so i thought it was enough. Though i was curious how he got those birds flying in that picture
I don't know how to make nif files, i downloaded some programmes which doesn't quite work; so i think i'll pass this one. But nevertheless, i'll give you the .png picture, just in case you need it. But i see there are a lot of talented people in here who maybe come up with an even better idea for the main menu...

I had the same problem with a private mod. But I found a solution. It's in the spoiler to know how.
Spoiler :
- Go to the Crossroad mod.
- Go to art, interface, main menu.
- Copy CIV4MainMenuBG.nif (this one has no animation like birds, so I took this one) and the .dds . DON'T rename the files.
- Paste it in the RFCA mod.
- Change the .dds to the picture that you want. (and save, DON'T change the name)
- IIRC, the MainMenu.xml (in the XML/Art) needs to be copied)

EDIT: I did make it, but I had to stretch the picture. I can upload it if you think it's nice.

Do you really think it's necessary to stretch the picture? I wanted it to look a bit like the BtS background... But i think it's fine until someone comes up with a better idea.
Do you know if there is any way to change the font? I noticed that some mods don't have that Times New Roman-ish font of the original game. I searched through the mod folder of, i think it was After World, but it all got a little foggy when i found .tga files according to fonts.

Fonts (and Interface) are controlled by the Resource folder. A pretty good explanation and ready-to-use files are here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=15121 (although I believe that if you want to change the font, you have to set colors as well).

The main menu picture should be shrinked into a square - it will look deformed, but CIV4 then stretches the shrinked picture to the screen, so in-game the picture will normal again, not stretched... If you need any help with this I can make a nif+dds out of a picture you've chosen.

I had to make the picture 1024x1024. It was 800x600 so I enlarged it to 1365x1024. Then I cut of some edges of the picture until is was 1024x1024.

I only know how to do this by making a picture to this size. I can't do nifs. So I took the one of the Crossroads (because that one doesn't have movement in it) mod and changed the .dds into the file I want.

Okay, here's what I think of that picture: I don't know but is that blurry part intended? Because I find it not very beautiful...
Ifound a picture which could fit as a main manu too. What do you think of it?
Picture

Well, it really was intented. It's meant to be a oil painting. But i think if people don't see what it's meant to be, it can be kinda ugly. So we'll better drop it.
I found a file that can be used when the Mandate of Heaven is passed to another player, the Imperial March. It's 10 seconds, so pretty long. On one Hand, that event maybe need some epic music, but on the other hand, it might get annoying after hearing it the 50th time.

What do you think of it? I chose that picture because it fitted the music civ-addicted posted. I don't want to decide it on my own, because you'll need to look at it too ;). What still can be added is a titel (RFCA in chinese-looking symbols or sanskrit or so)

I made 2 version with text. (different lettertype) The lettertype could be changed. (different size, different color etc.)

EDIT: Now it has the ingame background.

If you wanna have the picture unstretched (text will also stretch badly), just shrink it to square instead of cropping it (after adding the text).

@ Black Whole
A'm making buttons for the wonders that hasn't got one yet. But I have some questions.

1. The Famensi already has a button. (education-ish) Is that the one you want to use or do you want a button of the building itself?
2. When I search for the Imperial Libray, I get several of them. Which one do you have in mind that is the "real" Imperial Library?

EDIT: You don't have to answer the 1st question. (The button is for the Terracotta Army)

The picture and the text won't be stretched. This is the same size as it will be in the game. What you see is what you get.

It looks stretched on the first pic you posted (the rectangular one without letters).
