Rhye's Catapult

I did a new test, and compared 2 saves of AD 1500

If it holds true that:

AI growth% Sci % Prod %
slave settler 160 60 160
serf chieftain 130 75 130
vassal warlord 110 90 110
baron noble 100 100 100
count prince 95 110 95
duke monarch 90 115 90
prince emperor 85 120 85
king immortal 80 125 80
emperor deity 60 130 60

Then I suggest the following handicaps:

China Emperor
India Emperor
Egypt Serf
Japan Prince
Mongolia Slave
Greece Duke
Rome Baron
Persia Baron

Germany Prince
France Slave
England Slave
Spain Slave
Russia Serf

Arabia Serf
Mali Slave
Aztec Slave

I would also suggest a decrease in tech rate, to something like 70-80%,
especially if the handicaps will work right...

And some good tiles should be cut back in China...

Rhye, can you give me what is the handicap for what civ?

You see them in the WBS, in the headers.

Well, I tried to check things in the game and followed China making an archer:

1. turn: 19 hammers
2. turn: 6 hammers
and archer is completed

Civpedia says that archer costs exactly 25 hammers

Isn't this 25 the 100%???
Shouldn't this archer cost China more, say 25 * 1,3 = 33?

EDIT:
I find the same in case of India: Asoka gets archer for 25 hammers...
(and he is very good at moving his tiles :))

EDIT 2:
I thought maybe Germany will have it different, but no, he makes a settler for 100 (base value)

Rhye, are you sure the handicaps are working properly?

I thought they were (cos civs seemed a bit more balanced). But here you're proving the opposite, so...

A Map change in general that might help out the Europeans is providing more fish type food resources, and food in general. I remember in Rhye's of Civ there were two fish resources for Ireland cities, and these might help if England still manages to get pushed to Ireland. This could also help, 'encourage' the AIs to settle in certain places, much like what was done with civ 3 Rhye's.

This is in the to-do list, and as it seems that we need that NOW, I think it's the next thing to do, isn't it?

about handicap in 026:

I tried to start a game so that I set myself on emperor level...
As China is on the SAME level, they should have a warrior of 15 hammers, right?

Hell, it isn't so, they have it from 9, which is exactly the 60% of 15,
so China gets the bonus as no handicap is set on her (or is it him? :)).

Well, I went to a simple Civ4 game creation and to the Custom Game creation
- and I see I CANNOT set handicap for AI players - handicap is greyed out!
Only Human players can adjust it...

Isn't it so that something shall be tweaked in the SDK
to let the game be like what we want here, Rhye?

this won't be easy

I'm afraid the ideal soltion would be an enlargement of the map - so that's a little more similar ro RoC in terms of space available to euro civs - China would grow too, but we can punish it with corruption :p That would really save a lot of our problems - including future problems, when we'll have more than 18 civs
The question you should answer is: can we afford this? How are late game loading times now?

I have to see how the very late game loading time goes...

I have a comp of P4 3GH Prescott proc and 1 MB RAM,
Maybe I will set down all graphics to minimum and will see...

Bigger map? My first gut reaction: :king:

loading test, all graphics are low

with a game of v026 in a game that develops naturally,
only I sell techs to AI

1500: 10 secs
1600: 13 secs
1700: 14 secs
1800: 18 secs - AI has caravel, no colonization yet

I play King level

I see that the handicap system seems function

If we do stay on this map, I have noticed that in every test game in 026 England gets pushed north and spain settled Cadiz as its capital in the south of Iberia. Can we have France, Spain and England spawn at closer to the same time? If England spawns before Paris grows culturally, London should be able to settle in the correct spot.

Pushing France later would make it suffer from Germany even more.
The alternative is pushing Germany too.

let's see, now it is:

109BC Germany (Confederaion of Cimbri, Teutoni etc.)
481AD France (Francs under Clovis found Merovingian Kingdom in Gaul)
718AD Spain (Kingdom of Asturias founded)
829AD England (Egbert recognized as king)

there's only one alternative:

718AD Spain (Kingdom of Asturias founded)
768AD France (Charlemagne rules)
829AD England (Egbert recognized as king)
843AD Germany (Treaty of Verdun - separate France and Germany established)

with a rich spam of axeman during early middle ages all though europe to simulate massive barbarian attacks.

what do you think?

Lachlan, do you mean the the AI civs have DIFFERENT levels???
That would be wonderful but I have doubts it is so...

Rhye, I did not have saves from late game...

After finishing this loading time test on Baron level,
I will play a game on King, so to see how a fastened (125%) science for the AI
works in relation to "history) - i.e. will we see colonization in the 16th century?

I will pursue the game :) And i will say more
