Rhye's Catapult

I have found out that version B works only on the first try every time you load the game, meaning you cant exit to main menu and start a new game, because then the early civs die. Now, it's your call to find out why, but I don't think one should spend too much energy about it.

Yes, the initialization code is run only once. Can be corrected, but I won't bother since it seems version B will be on hold for a while.
Rhye what do you think?

038b - 1500 - Prince - England

I had my first colony in USA in 1495

By now I have Nationalism, Economics and Repl. Parts. :)
England is easier to play than Germany...
I am on par with France, India, Japan, Egypt - we are the group behind China

China has Rifle and Steam Power

Now to the stats

SCIENCE

China can't be beaten...
Japan has 58%, France-India-Egypt-England has 35-40%

HAMMERS

As I said, in this game China is not that strong in goods, and lo:

France: 143% (!!!)
But I quickly add that it is because France has only 3 cities - all large: 16, 11, 10
China has cities of 19, 17, 17, 16, 14, 11 and seven smaller others...
the small ones bring down the value of the indicator here for China

still:
Japan 93%
Germany: 97%
Persia: 92%
Spain: 96%

We can say that China is big because he has MANY cities with BIG population.
If we could hinder that, all should be OK.

I think one solution could be splitting China in two different civs - i.e. one northern, more barbarian (leader mao or kublai with gengis to mongols or wang kon keeping out koreans) and another one southern and more civilized (leader Qin Shi Huang).

The first one represents the empires of Liao, Wei, Jin-Jurchen, Yang, Qing and modern China etc. and it starts in Beijing. Its name could be "China", or "Chin empire".

The second one represents Shangs, Han, Tang, Song, Ming starting in Chang-an (Xi'an) or Luoyang, Kaifeng, Hangzhou (wherever you want but more in the south). The name could be "Han" or "Zhongguo". It cannot settle north.

In this case, with the little space Korea has on the map, it could remain represented by barbarian cities.

With a good algrithm of born and death it could be represented the dynamics of contraposition north/south in the chinese history, with a different role for Mongols. Northern China could appear around 900AD. Finally, around 1950 a totally different civ could appear (Chinese republic) led by Mao taking all the cities of north and south (having its capital in Beijing). All this obviously doesn't happen if one of the civs belongs to human player.

...

In a similar way, other events could be simulated splitting civs with more than one leader into different civs. In 1790 there is the revolution and Louis' cities are replaced by Napoleon's, with the modern day flag. In 1700 Victoria replaces Lizzy, its civ is the British Commonwealth and has the Union Jack. Around 1870 Bismarck gets Germany in the place of Frederick and with a good leader an Italian civ replaces rome or those who have the italian cities, and Gandhi the Indian ones if ruled by a foreign empire (Arabs, Persia, Euros) in 1950. With Warlords, Stalin's USSR gets Russia in 1920, etc. etc. etc..

I understand it is maybe too complicated, but what do you think?

P.S. I will make some test as soon as I can (I am writing a universitary dissertation).

I started now a game with Elizabeth, no techs beside the two starting. I'm trying again

Asoka wins in 1700 BC, conquest. I'm trying again

Asoka won again, I'm trying again. Still with Liz

And still Asoka wins. I'll restart the game and try again

OK, here is the updated file of England-1500

New data

- GNP
- total number of specialists used

I erased sci/tiles column...
there is correction of Spain's data (one more city)

Ok, this time Asoka didn't win. I started again with no techs, a Phalanx under my side and a city badly placed two tiles west of where should be london. I played a couple of turns and the techs spawned about 3-4 turns later, don't know why
