Rhye's Catapult

Awesome - let's see if we get some wars between civs now.

If this doesn't work, another idea I had was to make Open Borders come later, or be harder to get (pleased instead of cautious). This prevents one diplo bonus, and constrains civs a little bit more.

Re:scripted wars, I wouldn't be totally against actually scripting in a tendency towards certain wars at certain times, but the way Rhye is already implementing it is way, way better than that. I can't wait to play with this new system!
This is what I meant, for each war represented, it is only a possibility that it will even happen. There is the chance that the civs WON'T declare war--they might not even be around! Plus, I didn't know about Rhye's system for wars. Much easier and (of course ) much more creative. Hats off once again! :hatsoff:

Yes, but maybe with Warlords something of SilverKnight's idea could be implemented. I think at the programmed-in-time spawn of Warlord units, one for each civ; e.g. Alexander for Greece in 330BC, Cyrus for Persia in 560BC, Hitler for Germany around 1940 etc. and make more likely to these civs to declare war when the warlord appears (with the great system you made), and/or give more powers to these units.
Also not a bad idea, simply allowing for wars to have more force. Again, I agree that scripting wars is a bad idea, I was merely advocating scripting the possibility. The new wars scheme will already fix that.

0.84 changelog:

- RoC naval movement (a kind of): cost halved in ocean
  One of my favorite features of RoCX! I'll be sure to jump in to a new Russia game (mine was interrupted by a camping trip) to test out their UP, but I'll give China a go first to use the naval features!

Then some civs are stranded from sections of the world for the entire game, unless they can maintain great diplomacy with everyone. Rome, for example, would have to be VERY nice to Isabella (and we all know how hard THAT can be ) if it wanted to colonize beyond Africa. It could always be tried; I would want to declare war to slip past a galleon or two rather than give in to demands every other turn. But was this why wars were always fought?

Enough talk/type! Time for [civ4]!

it's 2 food + 1 hammer since next version.
Sometimes I'm quiet and I don't tell you but I've already done the changes

I always knew. You are my new prophet

I came upon this mod about a week ago and I have to say that it is one of the best I have seen so far. I like the way that the civs appear at the time they did historically. I just have one suggestion: have you considered incorporating jdog5000's Revolution modpack into your mod? Because often times I see China and other civs get easily gobbled up by barbarians, and the area is easily conquered. With the barbarian civ mod component, it would allow a barbarian city to turn into a full civ once it reaches the right size, and for example, the Chinese or Greeks could retake their lost territory and unite their lands, like Qin Shi Huang did by uniting the Chinese divided states. With the rebellion component, if Rome conquers Spain, and it does not keep the Spanish cities happy, the Spanish can threaten to start a rebellion, and if Rome does not have enough money to pay the rebels to put down their arms, they rebel and retake their lands, or be crushed. Once again, impressive work Rhye.

Right. Since no one else has got problems with the Incan bonus, I'm playing as them to see if I'm delusional. Researching nazionalism around 1500, never worked a mountain tile in 400 years. It's just... useless

I already agreed with you earlier. I think the Incan bonus is just lousy. They need to be able to build improvements or they need a shield or something from mountains.

The Egyptians also need a boost. That and I think the slavery civic option needs to be changed. SLavery is just so lousy as an option.

Thats a pretty good idea. It would make things a bit more dynamic.

Hey Rhye you need to readjust the German flipzone. In my most recent game modern day venice flipped to germany when they appeared. The flipzone seems a bit big if you ask me. It shouldnt push into italy.

VAMOS ITALIA CARAJO!

No offence meaned to germans ;)

Flip the Germany away.... I foresee the GODLIKE goal of Grosso. Call me the prophet. And btw, victory

Thanks for the Incan boost...

i wish i was the first one to say on this post that italy are through to the final... but i'm going to do it anyway. i know it's off topic... but i'm going to do it anyway. it may be considered spam... but i'm going to do it anyway.

woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
forza gli azzurri!!!!

Just played a very nice game on the new version over the last few hours. Started as Egypt and did pretty badly (I was unfocused and wasn't prepared for the very minimal barbarian attacks coming in from the west) and then switched to England who I really wanted to play as. I'm doing pretty well, the world is unfolding in a pretty realistic way (although Rome is a bit too huge for the period I'm in - it has most of southern Europe with these two big arms further north into Europe. I'm too tired to really recall if there was anything notworthy, but I think there just wasn't. I'll keep playing tomorrow. It's so much fun.
By the way, important non mod-specific question: when I conquer a city with the Spiral Minaret, do I get the income from it? That wonder is just the perfect reason to append Paris to my territory. So very many Christian civs in this game! There are about four civs that aren't Christian (but a couple I have yet to meet).

EDIT: Oh, I just remembered something from the Egypt game: now with Egypt's UP, shouldn't the Pyramids do something else? It seems like the Pyramids are less important in their historical placement now that Egypt has early access to Hereditary rule anyhow.

Have you ever considered changing the Roman trait to FORZA ITALIA, and every four years they win the world cup, which generates culture, wealth, and parties in all the little Italies all over the world?

I guess it's kind of a modern trait, but I think it's very realistic. ;)

Just finished my game as well. A quick recap.

I played as Egypt and basically stayed out of world politics so I could watch things unfold. There were lots of early wars including one between greece and persia and one between greece and rome. The greeks lost hattussas and had a stalemate with rome. Persia then went on to a war with Arabia that they won.

Rome was destroyed after her cities flipped. Everything was good except I didnt like how modern day venice flipped to Germany. I thought that was a bit off. Speaking of Venice I'd love if they became a minor civ in Warlords. Theyre without a doubt one of my favorite civs of all time.

About geography I think the sahara pushes a little too far north in northern africa. The desert should be moved slightly back.

Great addition so far.

Venice as a Civilization? That's something new...

They were very influential throughout europe for the longest time and if I remember correctly the silk road ended in venice. At its height it controlled numerous coastal cities. They would make a great minor civ.

Well, it was a small kingdom for a long time...

Just played a long game as Egypt, the whole thing was great but I have one issue...

All world wonders seem to be built soooo late after they are 'supposed' to have been built in real history. The Hanging Gardens were built in the 1400s, the pyramids not until the 1450's and the colossus (oh my) not until the 1700s!

I think you should do something about the importance of Wonders, my suggestion is to make a certain civ 'more likely' than others to build a certian wonder. Ie: Egypt will be A LITTLE MORE likely than any other civ to build the pyramids.

Rhye - nice job on the wars, this is a vast improvement.

I played as China, as usual, no plans to switch. I finally did well so I wasn't in last place by the middle ages. When I expanded into Dailan and Japan expanded into Korea, the Japanese declared war on me (around 700 AD). Well done!

India has a lot of expansion. They got into Indochina and Indonesia. Japan, after I booted them out of Korea, started building cities in the Phillipines and Manchuria.

In the middle east, Rome and Egypt fought a few minor wars, but the big one was in 10AD or so, when Rome and Persia tag-teamed Greece. They split it right down the middle - Rome got Epidamus and Sparta, Persia got Tyre, Byzantium, and Athens.

When Arabia showed up, they declared war on Persia, and lost, badly, getting wiped out. Persia at this point was dominating the game, leading in score by about 200 points.

Izzy decided to use her conquistadors all the way across the world. Except instead of being on the Aztecs, she hit, er, me, and razed Macau.

Colonial expansion seems to be working faster than it should. Cyrus had circumnavigated the globe by 1320, and like I said, the Indians were all over southeast Asia. I think both of these things could be toned down if you make Asoka more aggressive - if he attacks Cyrus, interesting things could happen.
