THANK YOU RHYE!

Figures, I start an awesome game as the Germans and BAM here it comes ;p

I shoulda done that a long time ago haha.

Also, I had the same thing that EW describes (the spinnin with nothing to do feeling) at about the 14th cent, which I feel is accurate, and more about German productivity and ability to mass womp with soldiers. Twenty turns of peace with everyone was enough to build everything there was to build, including a few wonders... even as a theocratic monarchy!

Japan game went well, but I wimped out before getting air units. It was getting too weird.

Files dled in the time it took to write this message! Consider testing begun (and my weekend shot to bits haha).

There's a coast square between Spain and Carthage that acts as though it has fish, but it doesn't look like it. I'll find coordinates for it. It gives 4 food, but doesn't have a fish or anything on it.

I destroyed Spain easily as Carthage. I think the Carthaginians have the single best early army in the game.

In my current game Spain has been a tech leader for a long long time... They were behind in the early middle ages but iirc, I sold them some tech practically for free and apparently they managed to be first to some tech and since then have been in the tight struggle for technological supremacy with me and Greece (Greece, by the way, has been a tech leader at some point or another in every single game I have played in RoX.)
Eventually both of them will join my European Union (now including France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Estonia, and the Ukraine.)

Well, it's true in the Beta as well so far. Even though there was a short while when they were behind in technology. It actually seemed for a while that the tech leadership switched around alot but from a certain point and on it stabilized with me and Greece and Spain in the lead (though admittedly I am struggling to keep up since I have been at war almost nonstop for a while. Now in Absolute Monarchy and working on infrastructure in preperation for conquering Rome and/or the Byzantines.)

1) i've hit the middle ages and my civ is cruising. but i've hit this stretch where techs arent offering anything, and at min 5 turns of research, i feel i'm spinning my wheels: my core cities have caught up with every building (incl uni's, and cathedrals) and all my cities are well stocked with defenders (2 musketmen, 1 man at arms, 1 trebuchet), plus i have 4 good stacks of attackers/counter-attackers (knights or men at arms) spread around.

i realise this is partly a function of the difficulty level, and may in fact well represent both my civ (military) and the world time period (late 15th-early 16th century).

yet, for the accuracy of the simulation, i feel limited as a player, strategically. thoughts or advice on this welcome.

2) i really like the 2 extra hp per unit as a better balance against ludicrous outcomes. however, i notice that it takes SO much longer to fully heal in the field (ie without a city/barracks).

i note the tweak made with regard to artillery to balance against the higher hit points. is there anything that can be done about the repair rate of units in the field?

thanks for your advice

EW

1)nobody ever noticed this (if I understood correctly what you mean). Well, I guess it's a direct consequence of the "small" Europe.

2)never noticed that: is it a big problem? (As nothing can be done to increase the rate)

When I get to the modern age, I'll tell you.
It's gonna be a long bloody while before that, as once I get Trench Infantry and Machinegunners I'm going to have a bit of aggressive-expansionistic fun.

Got busy with all kinds of stuff, so I'll probably only finish my game of Germany tomorrow night. So I'll only have one test-game in this beta. =\
Rhye, it seems that tomorrow is too early to release the pack... There is still some testing to do on the tech rates and once we're done with that we'll still need to test out the new rates at least for a bit. =X

Ship it anyway. That way other people get a voice in it. All you need to do is fix the major stuff right now, and then release tiny patches with the fixes. It works in the real world, and it will work here. I think people wont mind a slightly buggy game if they get it two weeks earlier... and the best complaints we have are balance issues, which will never be fully resolved anyway!

So let everyone play, because you know they want to sooooo baaaaad!

I think it best that we either iron out as much as we can before publishing it, or release it as a preview release so there are no complaints.

Tomorrow might be a little early, but the people who download it on release day will probably check for patches anyway.

Re: Greece

Greece is very powerful in the Ancient Age in the Beta. This is accurate. Don't change it. It's OK, however, to try to curb their growth later so that other civs can take the lead.

Rhye,

I've been playing with your mod now for the last couple of months. I just registered here for the first time to ask if you'd like anyone else to help test the beta. I'm very excited by the way, esp. since I've been tinkering with your mod myself trying to create something similar.

Thanks for all the hard work that you have put into making my Civ experience that much more enjoyable.

Thanks OB haha

now if only my teachers thought that ;p

Rhye, all the bugs that have been previously mentioned are in the files you uploaded and graciously allowed me to download.

These include (but may not be limited to):
-Graphical oddities (Ottoman warrior turning white when fortified iirc)
-Native Swordman/Swordsman (whichever it is) .wav issue
-Nordic Horseman not requiring horses or riding

These are really the only major issues that would delay release (balancing not being a valid delay reason in my opinion, considering how much time we have already spent on it to no avail) and 2/3rds of them can be fixed in a few moments (possibly all three, but I really do not know much at all about graphics editing)!

As testers we can only catch so much. If we release, there are about ten thousand eyes to see whatever tiny mistakes are left. Many of those watchers may even be able to fix the problem and simply post the solution.

Just be sure to put in big letters right above the link:

BE SURE TO CHECK FOR PATCHES REGULARLY!

PS: Isn't it cool how many people have had their first post on this thread? ;p
