Re: Greece

Greece is very powerful in the Ancient Age in the Beta. This is accurate. Don't change it. It's OK, however, to try to curb their growth later so that other civs can take the lead.
If I recall correctly from earlier in thsi game, they were really very powerful in the earliest phase of the game, then at some point (around the late ancient age or early middle ages) they got a bit weaker, and then they somehow made a comeback and now I doubt anyone but myself could stop them from being so prominent. And even I, the greatest military and productive power currently on Earth, would not be quick to engage the Greeks in war. Now after I complete my infrastructure phase, maybe that will change. ;)

Aeon, the 3 things you mentioned have already been fixed. The only thing remaining is the tech rate.

Yes it's probably too early tomorrow, but I made this choice to have one more completed work to show Firaxis. I'm even hurrying to update the site! However, I posted the 4th, and the 4th will be. I'm sorry that most of you didn't have enough time.
Patches will be done only if necessary (wrong animations, crashes, etc.), not for small balancing issues.

Rhye,

I've been playing with your mod now for the last couple of months. I just registered here for the first time to ask if you'd like anyone else to help test the beta. I'm very excited by the way, esp. since I've been tinkering with your mod myself trying to create something similar.

Thanks for all the hard work that you have put into making my Civ experience that much more enjoyable.

I'm sorry, it's late, the pack will be out tomorrow! :)

Is that tomorrow as in the 5th or this morning? lol

But please Rhye, release tomorrow's build as a preview release! You can probably have the completely final 1.0 version of the RoC2 X-Pack out within days, but it's just not a good idea to release an incomplete job. I hope Firaxis aren't looking for people who will sacrifice completeness because of deadlines. Frankly, the industry has enough of that kind of people already. =\
(No offense to that kind of people - I just personally like playing complete games when I buy them.)

lol, remember... the publisher is king

yaaaa, totally stick with the fourth. Ever since day one I have enjoyed your mod, and the xpack release has been in my thoughts since it was first announced months ago.

Rhye, here is your contract with us:

You are permitted to retire from Civ3 modding once this pack is completed to your satisfaction. However, your retirement ends with the release of Civ4, at which point you will create something equally awesome... assuming you are not already creating awesome things with Firaxis ;p

Here's a nice pic for advertising the XPack. It has new wonders, new government, double UUs, one of your new units, and historical accuracy all in one screenshot. And it's from actual gameplay.

Wow dude, you got guts! I do not think I have EVER dared leave a seaside city without a defender!

Nice pic, btw!

PS: Hannibal... he is going DOWN! ;p

Oh, and Rhye I finally posted about you on the firaxis career thread. The Xpack graphics killed my last inhibitions against making judgements

Playing as the Romans... almost died when I saw the flavor archer I built. Absolutely spectacular... truly, the best mod ever.

thank you rhye

thats from the heart

Coastal cities don't need defenders until the AIs get galleys. The Phoenician Bireme allows me to be the only naval power until sailing.

Sure, I'll retire by the end of the year (My exams are coming closer and I'd better begin studying; and I need time to play Pro Evolution Soccer 4 and Football Manager 2005, too :D ) but I will get and play Civ4! Then, if there's something I don't like, I'll begin with working on it :) And that's not sure. Civ4 Epic game could even contain some elements of RoC, and that would make my work useless. In that case I would make an historical scenario.

1)nobody ever noticed this (if I understood correctly what you mean). Well, I guess it's a direct consequence of the "small" Europe.

Also, I had the same thing that EW describes (the spinnin with nothing to do feeling) at about the 14th cent, which I feel is accurate, and more about German productivity and ability to mass womp with soldiers. Twenty turns of peace with everyone was enough to build everything there was to build, including a few wonders... even as a theocratic monarchy!

dont sell yourself short, Rhye. As Aeon points out, this is a great example of how finely tuned this scenario is: when you choose to play a civ, you take on all the baggage that comes with their history. in this case, stagnation in the 14th-16th centuries leaves the militaristic civ looking beyond it's borders for opportunities... :D

2)never noticed that: is it a big problem? (As nothing can be done to increase the rate)

after further thought, i'm starting to think that it may be a good thing. it almost requires that you take cities in order to have a place to fast repair. units repairing to full-strength in the field, without being hampered by logistics, is pretty unreasonable if you think about it.

of course, it would be nice if civ3 allowed for units to merge in the field, "instant" repairing to whatever combined strength they have, at the cost of no longer having two separate units that could eventually have been full-strength some day. it would certainly be more historically accurate.

so, Rhye, dont mind my ramblings, please concentrate on the wonderful work you're doing. :D

It's coming this afternoon or this evening.
I'm going to play football now, I'll be back by 13 (GMT +1), I'll try to update the site and upload the thing by 15:30. If I can't, then it will be between 19 and 20:30 (after that, I'm going out again).

That's why I pushed for complicating the mod with flavour units.
The thing I really like, is when you explore ouside Europe and you feel to be at the other side of the world
