It was the Energy Department, so it is hardly obscure. If you want to slash a whole department, you should have given enough thought into it to be able to remember the name of the department.

It shows that his slash plan was unserious, which is not an indictment but confirmation of a sad fact.

The Energy Department is obscure. Like many Federal Departments it is primarily a jobs plan for the Free Pony Progressive Party. Exists to provide patronage for votes. Free ponies, free ponies, free ponies for all.

If you really want to talk about something why not discuss the Merkel plan to conquer the fat and timid cows of Europe economically, accomplishing with a fiat monetary unit that which Hitler could not with Panzers and Messerschmidts.
Because this is off-topic. Discussions of 616, Faerun and similar such bizarre fantasies goes in arts and entertainment.

I approve of a German conquest of Europe. That way the trains will always run on time, everything will work, and I would get to see the kinkiness of Germans and French trying to have sex.
Win-Win for everybody.

Phase 1: Commerce gone
Phase 2: Education gone
Phase 3: ?

Phase 4: Profit

Obama said they were 54 states or something like that.
Some people just aren't good at public speaking.:dunno:

57 states, and that's different then a policy proposal.

The Energy Department is in charge of nuclear reactors, nuclear waste and our nuclear weapons. I'm sorry, but the department that is in charge of our nuclear weapons and preventing enormous disasters simply isn't obscure or just a "jobs plan" by any stretch of the imagination.

Obama actually said that he has already visited 57 states, had 2 more left to go, and that he also wanted to go to Alaska but his campaign could not justify it. He implied that he thought that there were 60 states if you assume he did not merely misspeak.

That looked more like a brainfart than general cluelessness.
I blame his recent coke binge.

it's funny how Rick Perry was desperately looking to Ron Paul for help. Ron Paul would have said anything at that moment, besides EPA, and i bet Rick Perry would gladly parrot the answer without giving much thought. it would have been more hilarious if Ron Paul fed Perry with a non-existent federal agency and Perry went along with it

Hey so Americans.. apparently the department of education is a pretty new thing and isn't really that popular.

Isn't it good to have federal education standards though? And how else can you have them if you don't have some sort of a federal education agency? I guess my question is - if this agency is ever gutted, who's job will it be to uphold country-wide standards? (Which I think most will agree are important to have... but maybe not?)

Universities and states will try to be the best and education will take care of itself.
Competition and , free market and all that...
