RifE 1.20 Bug Thread

Dragon bones are no longer a UF, check the 1.12 changelog. (disregard)

EDIT: Ninja'd by Valk.

The most difficult thing about diagnosing these problems is that I do not get them.
Makes it a bit hard to figure out what's going on.

Well, yes, and just to prove you wrong I downloaded Sarisin's save...and here, turn 325, no crash to desktop.
Indeed - mission impossible. :nuke:

Once, we had this one PC, that had a slack joint in its PSU, but we did not know this. We completly disassebled that thing and tested every bloody part using an other PSU. Then we put it together again, with the old PSU and sometime it would inevitable fail, always indicating an other component...omg, I am starting to rant again. :crazyeye:

Anyway, good luck with that, I have no idea.

Yeah. We've found alot of the issues... But there are always more to find.

I have an issue with the Guardians of Pristin Pass. One guardian took all the pieces, commanded the other two, and invaded my land. I defeated them, and got all three pieces at once. Is this intentional? I think it would be cooler if they split up and spread the triforce pieces around the world.

I agree with your statements on the CTDs Zharkov. There is something that is causing CTDs in the start of games or a few turns in. I think that is being addressed with a patch.

However, there are also IMO a number of things that cause CTDs in the middle of a game. As you said, some can be reproduced, some can be identified, some can be corrected letting play resume, etc. However, many are just head-scratchers that, unfortunately, lead you to abandon a fun and interesting game. This unstable nature of the modmod and CTDs are certainly frustrating as it seems impossible now to finish a game of any length. Too bad, and I'm hoping the problems can be identified and fixed because I agree with you it is a great modmod and likely just needs a little tweaking.

I was having crash issues, but I reinstalled civ outside program files (I created C:/Games/) and I have not ctd since. I've actually had this problem with modding other games, too. It seems vista doesn't like game mods in program files.

Bug, or the AI cheating again?

For the first time, I saw an AI Scout who beat me to a Dungeon get locked in a box there. I hate when that happens to me as it is usually on the other side of the map and I have to dispatch a unit to free him.

Good, I thought, no more scouting for that unit for awhile.

However, imagine my surprise when off he went the very next turn.:crazyeye:

Is there some sort of immunity one can get from being held in the box.

Or, is it a bug or the AI cheating again?

PS. I guess you never know about this modmod. My previous games have featured beaucoup Lizards allover the map. However, in my current game, only a few Lizards and ZERO Packs or Giant Lizards. Not to worry though as every small 2-3 tile body of water on the map has a number of annoying Bunyips scooting back and forth each turn. :) I guess I'll take that trade - Bunyips that are harmless in small bodies of water vs. the Lizards.

I'm using Windows 7, but I suppose that is something to try. I don't have this CTD problem with FFH2, FF or Orbis which are installed the same way, I think. Just RifE. :(

Found sometimes:

When using the DOMAIN_IMMOBILE for a unit, the civ Race promo is not given to the unit on creation. I wonder whether it is intentional but looks like a bug to me (I have to manually set the race in the unit because of this).

Disregard my issues with the breach. Damn Amurite World Spell..

However, I've noticed that a lot of my civilopedia entries are blank with the exception of something that looks like a filepath. blahblahkey or something. I'm thinking this might actually just be a corrupt install on my part. And some of the pop-ups for heroes say "tab" at the beginning of a couple of the paragraphs (Alcinus's for example).

Just opened up the pedia. As an example, the The Legion pedia entry just says "TXT_KEY_CIV_DTESH_PEDIA"

If it says TXT_KEY, it just means it hasn't been written yet. My first mod (Malakim+, included in RifE) I filled out EVERY text key... Doviello+, I got most of them. Moved on to RifE, and started merging work from others... Which is where the trouble with textkeys started.

Lots of flavour text is left out as modders work, and is forgotten. Main reason I have the Art and Lore thread, so people can contribute. ;)

My last game there were so many Dread Hamsters in an area of wilderness between kingdoms that I literally couldn't kill them all. I had a plagued Ranger that I was keeping up with the Shrine of Sirona and every turn he would kill a hamster pack...he did this for about 20 turns and leveled from 13 to 15 on hamsters.... and there were still stacks of them roaming around. They seemed to be breeding as fast as I killed them!

Then the game had a reproducible CTD so I couldn't continue it. On a side note, I opened up the game in world builder and I tried to identify if something is being built or happening that would cause a CTD. One thing that IS strange is that the elven kingdom's cities have nothing being built in any of them, so maybe this is the problem? Too bad, these games get really interesting and it would be nice to finish one. If anyone has any pointers or a link to a thread that shows how to troubleshoot a crash, I'd be interested. This is an awesome modmod, it just needs the quirks worked out.

I just normally load an autosave from a few turns early, and play on from there, normally don't get the ctd again.

That is a good idea...I could always jump to some earlier autosaves and maybe whatever weirdness is happening will be circumvented.

I pretty much only CTD on loading a game, other than the CTD after my first turn which I get every game I start. I've noticed that if I continue to try and load the problem save, it does eventually work, and I'm good to go until I have to load again.

That trap thing from the dungeon is broken because I have had scouts affected by it on multiple occasions and they all were able to free themselves. Its not the AI cheating, it seems to be a bug.

I was going to start a thread on Hamsters (just what this forum needs ;)), but since you mentioned them here I will add to what you wrote.

In all my previous games the map was filled with Lizards (all kinds) and Sabretooth Tigers. This game is teeming with Bunyips (in small bodies of water) and those damn hamsters. A couple of points on them:

1. As you mentioned it is really like playing whack a mole with them. Kill one and one or more is back immediately - spawning in the same place you killed one.

2. They seem to give both the Plague and Poison. I had a unit that needed 30 turns to heal and one that was Plagued was dead in the water because I was far away from priests or getting Divination. I was lucky to find the Pool of Tears, however.

3. The worst thing, though, is they have the Marksmen promotion and target the weakest unit. In this game you are nuts if you send out a single unit out with these animals. Even with more than one, one Hamster will hit a unit and die, but weaken it for the next Hamster who will use Marksmen to kill it. I lost a number of units this way.

4. In my game Hamsters wiped out 3-4 cities (the message was 'Animals destroyed a civ' or something like that and I know they were Hamsters). These things not only head directly into cities to attack (especially unescorted Workers) and I've even seen them spawn inside civ borders.

5. One definite balance issue in the game (I think this goes back to FF) is that the AI VERY often will spawn one or more units, um, intelligently next to yours. For example, your unit is wounded and a small stack of units shows up next to your unit immediately. Well, this happens a lot with Hamsters who are constantly attacking you with an age of 0.

6. The Hamsters are really tiny and sometimes hard to see, especially in terrain.

7. Incredibly, I came across a Hamster Stack - 4 Hamsters in a stack. No way you can deal with this with their superpowers - Plague, Poison, Marksmen, etc.

In sum, these little buggers are quite the challenge if you happen to get them in your game. I thought Sabretooth Tigers were tough, but these Hamsters have them beat IMO. Still, as I mentioned in another post, I just love the challenge and play with the animals as they are now. I hope they don't get nerfed too much in the next patch.

As to the CTDs, yes, they are very frustrating in that it seems impossible to finish a game. I save after EVERY turn. Going back to previous saves, intentionally changing what I did, doesn't seem to work for me. Once I get the CTD and repeat it several times after re-loading, I know I am done and it is time to start a new game again. :(

It is really a quandary whether to play a stable FFH, FF, or Orbis when I know I can play larger maps and finish the game, or enjoy the 300 or so turns with RifE knowing that it will eventually crash and I will not finish.

In the last game I played, Dance of Blades never wore off one of my mages, and he was blocked from casting it as long as he had the promotion. In my current game, haste isn't wearing off.
