Here are some screenshots from the blog post on the official website:

Is that Table Mountain in South Africa?

They always said they wouldn't do dark ages ... interesting to see how this works out.
Also, not sure about 'storytelling moments', I prefer a sandbox. We'll see!!
Maybe the Dark Ages won't be random, but will be brought about by player actions (losing too many units in a short period of time, a slowdown in Science rate, etc.).

NOTE: I haven't had the chance to watch the video yet.

OMG I am so hyped!

1. How many times did Sean Bean die again?
2. Black plague introduced. Are we going to see disasters and plagues?
3. Berlin wall and United Nations. Diplo victory? More late game mechanics?
4. Statue of Liberty. New wonder?
Statue of liberty is built in one fo the screen, along a entertainement district on water

Golden, Dark and Heroic era's
8 civilization and one new leader (double civ leader, or a new leader for an existing civ)
Loyalty system (with cities being able to fall under foreign rule when they're disloyal)
Governor system (more emphasis on tall vs wide)
Better alliances
Historic moments emphasis

Congrats to whoever chose February in the poll.

As for the issues, certainly interesting to see how they'll work golden age/dark ages together. Is Deity basically going to be the AI permanently in a golden age? Will be interesting to see how long a dark age can last, if there's anything you can do to get out of it.

I like the idea for more varied and specific alliances. Hopefully the AI will be smart enough to know when to join into one, and that the bonuses may actually be enough to last.

Of course, the interesting thing with all of this is how much does this interfere with the base game mechanics. Will I still be able to just go conquer the world, or are they going to prevent me from doing that too quickly?

Since there's 9 leaders + 8 civs, and the blog posts talks about women leaders (how else did Catherine de Medici get in...), I'm going to guess that one of the 8 civs is Vietnam, with two leaders, being the two Trung sisters.

No mention of a Hall of Fame though . . . . . . . . .

Would it not just mean 8 civs with 8 leaders, plus a 2nd leader for an existing civ, say, India?

Eight civs and nine leaders? I presume the nine leaders include the leaders of the new civs? Otherwise, that's a crazy amount.

Yes, it's certainly 8 new civs and 9 new leaders, so 1 new alternate leader from an existing civ or a civ that will be new. We won't get 17 new leaders, that for sure.

Also

Apparentely, the following seem to be on the agenda :
- Slavery
- Natural disasters and epidemics
- Expand on war
- Ideologies
- World Congress
