[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

Is Deity basically going to be the AI permanently in a golden age?

No, that won't be possible. The blog says that golden ages are temporary and when you finish one, it becomes harder to get another one. So, basically if an AI civ gets a golden age, it will only last X turns and then they will have to wait awhile before getting another one. The blog also makes it sound like civs will tend to alternate between golden ages and dark ages. So an AI civ might get a golden age for X turns and then get a dark age for X turns. If anything, this new mechanic should make deity easier for the player since the human player can get a golden age when the AI gets a dark age, helping the human player to catch up.

Sounds great if they can give a competitive AI. While I love Civ6 it has basically become a pure role-playing game, not a strategy game.

Because saying 8 civs and 1 new leader would make less sense

Makes sense to me. And there's no guessing that way.

Hopefully it is 8 new Civs and 9 new leaders who are added to old and new Civs :)

10,5 weeks till februari 8th. Seems likely a new leader gets a first look about once a week from now till release.
Plenty of stuff to guess what the next civilizations will be from the announcement video.

I`m still hoping to hear news about world congress and AI overhauls. Deeper alliences sounds great.

Gah!!

And this:

'We also ask ourselves some core questions as we select potential leaders:

  • “Is this region of the world represented?”
  • “Is this time in history represented?”
  • “Is this represented/revered in previous Civilization games or totally new?”'
I don't care! Much. Give me the very best that we know of dammit.

If they implement this new Timeline feature with all its Historical Moments without adding it to a Hall-of-Fame or Replay feature, they have Missed A Trick indeed.

What's this orange grass in the tundra? A natural wonder?

I'm hyped.... I'm super hyped...

Dont think i've been hyped that much before because of anything Civ related.

Dont mistake me, i've been hyped for VI, but mostly because i was tired of V and i was pleased to see most of the content from the past game was in it.

Now this Rise and Fall expansion ? Everything feels like it aims at offering something really new inside of this very solide CiVI base game.

If the Golden\Dark Ages\Emergencies triangle manages to balance the game over its entire length, and governors make a real enough difference to make smaller empire viable, well we're in for something good.

Congrats Firaxis, just take my money and get back to work.

My big question is how will they balance the pace of techs and civics? In the base game, it is easy to get far ahead in techs compared to real history. Can dark ages cause you to lose some techs that you have to rediscover? So maybe you get to renaissance age techs in say 1000AD but lose them in a dark age and then eventually catch up again and get to modern era techs around the 1800's? Or did they slow down the pace of techs? Or maybe they added a lot of new techs to each era?

The emergency mechanic sounds very intriguing to me.

Wait! Stop the presses!

I'm on break from work in an undisclosed location (I'm staring to "adult" now, whatever that means) and I just saw this!!! And I haven't been able to finish my Indonesia game because of said work. I better catch up and watch the trailer, and save up.

Probably no world congress?

I also don't understand why people think plagues and the Mongols will be included. Because of the trailer. Actually the only thing the trailer does hint, is Italy because of the doctor mask (that i recognize from assassin's creed).

February 8th release date means I have to choose between treating myself by buying the expansion or treating my girlfriend for Valentine's Day 6 days later... :shifty:

:lol::lol::lol: Choose wisely...

Those guys attacking the Chinese, many on horse back, firing from the saddle. Their armour looking distinctively Mongolian...
Or maybe it's all in our heads ;)

Edit: 0:56-1:30 ish in the vid.

Expansion so early, this is really good news

Eight new civilizations, let the stakes begin. Am I inclined to think that they are balanced on the map, then 2 civs for each continent? Americas/Europe/Africa/Asia

The trailer has a glimpse of world congress in it. So i still have some hopes about new info from now till release expansion.

Yes Mongolia was the first thing I thought of because of the trailer. Maybe Portugal or Dutch as well from the ship. Wouldn't mind Italy either though. The ending shot of her looked like she was speaking at the U.N.
Edit- They seem to be looking at a Map of Amsterdam on the ship so Dutch.
