[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

and (ironically) Tomyris--all of those will frequently declare war after years of friendship.

I will say it's annoying as hell to have miss "I-hate-surprise-wars" do a joint war against you which dodges those penalties.

I never take it personally. It's not Civ 4 where the complete effort you put into a relationship would most often be reflected.

I played one game where Tomyris declared four surprise wars--not joint wars, but actual surprise wars--in succession, two of which were against me. :cringe: I've come to really despise Tomyris. :p

I still owe Napoleon a few from Civ5 which is why I want him in Civ6. I wish
they'd imbue the AIs with some kind of memory so they remember what they did
to us previously (and vice versa).
Come on Science, pull your bloody finger out!

This is also true. Unless you're patron is Akhenaten, you paint your patron how he thinks he looks, not how he actually looks.

Akhenaten's statues actually looked like the real guy?

She's a major hypocrite.

"Tomyris is good friend to the worthy" is what she says when you denounce her.

Let's discuss Seondeok's appearance here instead.

Me, I believe that she doesn't look Korean.

I showed a picture of her to my mom, and she said the same thing.

Do we really have to wait until TUESDAY for the next reveal???

That's open to debate. Some scholars think he had his artists deliberately depict him looking bizarre/deformed/androgynous as some kind of transcendental religious statement. Others have diagnosed him with all sorts of physical deformities and illnesses. Other think that his odd appearance is just the shock of not seeing him depicted as an athletic teenager despite being ninety (*cough*Ramesses*cough*) or physically deformed (*cough*Tutankhamun*cough*). :p

I consider Tutankhamun and King Tut different: Tutankhamun was the Egyptian boy pharaoh, but King Tut is the idealized representation of Tutankhamun (mostly based on his extremely iconic death mask).

Who’s next though?

I get the feeling it won’t be Wilhelmina so as not to give us the satisfaction of guessing two of the new female leaders in a row (even though there were clues). They’re gonna keep the suspense and speculation going and go with an old faithful. Guessing the Ottomans.

From which you'd never guess he had a cleft palate. :p

I think we'll see a European civ with a male leader. That rules out the Dutch assuming they are led by Wilhelmina (which seems probable). If the Celts are in this expansion, they might be a possibility; new leaders might mean we finally see Boudicca retired in place of Vercingetorix (another name for Sean Bean to mangle :cringe:). Portugal under Henry the Navigator might be another possibility, but I'd be really surprised to see the Netherlands and Portugal in the same expansion. If the Byzantines have a male leader and are in this expansion, that's another possibility.

Great -- I've been cautiously optimistic that Portugal would have Henry this time and really hoping for Vercingetorix for a while now too. I actually think the multiple leaders aspect of Civ 6 might lend itself to having both him and Boudicca for two different styles of Celts.......but please don't let me revive the Celts argument from earlier lol. Random thought I had was a Druid as unique religious unit for Boudicca that also does normal combat -- like the warrior monk...with something unique obviously (something to do with forests, whether it be strength, earns faith with a victory, or extra movement points).

I agree. It will probably be European, not the Netherlands and not Portugal (because, as you say, they won't be in the same xp as the Netherlands), so that leaves the Celts or a European dark horse like Hungary or Italy.

I would love for it to be the Ottomans, but I doubt they're next. Maybe third.

Mhmm... androgynous... :yumyum:

 A pharao with gender dysphoria!

Why don't you think they'll be in the same expansion? Because of a similar renaissance era/exploration theme? I mean, I guess, but if it's going to be Wilhelmina then I feel like they would be sufficiently different, no?
