[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

Should have been more obvious with the Celtic hint, then. :p

Maybe we're getting Thrace led by Spartacus, considering gladiators and all :P
Jokes aside, I do think the gladiator scene was mostly just there because it was cool and fun to animate rather than a hint for a new civ.

Thracian language is not well attested, but I guess they can make Spartacus speak Latin. :p

Seondeok and Wilhelmina are interesting female leaders to start off the pre-expansion hype.

Too bad that there's a subset of certain misogynist Civ fans lurking elsewhere, not on this website.

On Youtube, Steam, reddit, 2K forum, possibly Facebook....:p

I didn't see any complaint that she was a woman on Facebook (surprisingly); only complaints that she wasn't Sejong or a Kim. Also a few that Korea wasn't significant and we want [insert Western European nation here]. :p

You can't even imagine how much I love the roll eyes emoji :p

However, with the Netherlands leak, the insignificant country complaints shouldn't appear now, just the woman leader complaints

I'm sure some people who are not so knowledgeable in history would still consider the Dutch a "insignificant country".

I'm glad they've got the Dutch back! (Polders... Need more polders... (...but Kumpungs?... I still love my kumpungs...)) but then I want every single Civ from Civ5 back in addition to new ones; and somehow I doubt we will get that without mods.

Hmm, I don't think Henry VIII was mad. Ruthless, narcissistic, egomaniacal, maybe sociopathic, but not mad.

Maybe. Depends on whether you regard some with dementia as
being of sound mind. It can be relatively benign i.e. not resulting
in an aggressive boorish personality, or to a blustering type
with violent outbursts and behaviour.

I was influenced by a book I read as a 12 year old, "Mere Mortals"
that attributed a lot of unpleasant, sometimes insane behaviour to
the effects of syphilis. I know it's not a popular explanation for Henry VIII's
sociopathy, but I wish they could grab a bit of his remains to put it beyond
doubt.

Let's discuss Wilhelmina's depiction:

She looks like a very jolly woman. If there were a screenshot of her denouncing the player though...

I like it. Although it appears they are using a more WW1 era depiction rather than WW2 like I anticipated.

Someone on Reddit cooked this up:

So when Indonesia became a civ, the city-state Jakarta was renamed to Bandar Brunei. It's pretty much in the same region.

So now we know the Seoul and Amsterdam city-states are going to be renamed, what do they become? Antwerp seems pretty likely for Amsterdam, right? What about Seoul? What scientific cities are in East Asia that aren't already in a civ? Are Singapore or Malacca high tech?

I was surprised to see how jolly she is, I had read about her and I imagined her to be more stern and unforgiving. But I guess losing your entire country and then shortly after losing your last major colony will do that to you. It is nice to see a different side of her though.

Whenever they replace a city-state they try to do it in the same regional area, Singapore or Malacca don't seem likely since we did just get Bandar Brunei. I would assume a Manchurian city but I'm afraid i'm not very well versed in the scientific accomplishments of Northern East Asia to provide any examples.

Oh, what about Taipei?

Oh, what about Taipei?
I would say that Taipei is a safe bet, it is considered an Asian Tiger after all.

On a side note, I imagine Queen Wilhelmina would use her umbrella as a weapon in the same why Philip uses his rapier during a denouncement. For some reason I would be more afraid of her attacking me with an umbrella than Philip attacking me.
