[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

I would say that Taipei is a safe bet, it is considered an Asian Tiger after all.

On a side note, I imagine Queen Wilhelmina would use her umbrella as a weapon in the same why Philip uses his rapier during a denouncement. For some reason I would be more afraid of her attacking me with an umbrella than Philip attacking me.
Never underestimate the mighty parasol!

Whilemina could whipe her umbrella to the screen, making it shatter.
But that is wishfull thinking.

I bet she wags it at you in admonishment.

Using an umbrella as a weapon reminds me of Penguin. So I guess, Wilhelmina will just throw that umbrella in tantrum and not brandish it like some sort of a sword.

I'm sure some people who are not so knowledgeable in history would still consider the Dutch a "insignificant country".

Agreed. I'm Dutch, therefore grew up with Dutch history, and yet I was very surprised when I found out they were in Civ V and had to really think about it for a while before realizing we were quite powerful in the 17th century.

As someone who's actually been attacked with a parasol, it's absolutely more frightening than a rapier

What are the contenders for the second district for all civs? I know before the announcement, a district connected to espionage or envoys was suggested, and of course canals.
I think that the Government Plaza may take care of envoys/espionage/foreign relations. Since the announcement, I've also seen some speculations about a loyalty district. So is there any good idea around except the canals and the loyalty district?

And considering buildings, I think it is likely that we'll see a third building for the Aerodrome that has to do with late game tourism.

Campus - Science
Holy Site - Faith
Theater Square - Culture
Commercial Hub - Gold
Industrial Zone - Production
Aquaduct - Housing (early game)
Entertainment Complex - Amenities
Encampment - Land combat
Harbor - Sea combat
Neighbourhood - Housing (late game)
Airport - Air combat
Spaceport - Space race

The only little bit of overlap here is in housing, which is covered by both Aquaducts and Neighbourhoods. On the other hand, almost everything is covered. Therefore, I would argue that it is safe to assume that new districts work with new or not yet covered 'yields' (with a bit of a wide definition of the term yield). The 'yields' that are left over are food, influence (envoys) and loyalty (introduced in the expansion). The Aquaduct might get buffed to give some food, I think (it's weak right now, after all), and I do not think a food district is likely either way, which means that one district (probably the Government Plaza) gives influence while the other, unknown district probably works with loyalty.

Alternatively, loyalty cannot directly be earned, but rather only through good happiness levels and governors, and then I have no idea what the second district could be. Wouldn't mind canals though.

Wait... What? You've been attacked with a parasol? How?

I've made a comment that a friend of mine didn't appreciate. I've also been attacked by purses, water bottles, a teddy bear, and the old fashioned slap

That's because Philip leaves you with the impression he's never used a rapier in his life; Wilhelmina is surely competent with that parasol. :p

I was surprised to see how jolly she is, I had read about her and I imagined her to be more stern and unforgiving. But I guess losing your entire country and then shortly after losing your last major colony will do that to you. It is nice to see a different side of her though.

Whenever they replace a city-state they try to do it in the same regional area, Singapore or Malacca don't seem likely since we did just get Bandar Brunei. I would assume a Manchurian city but I'm afraid i'm not very well versed in the scientific accomplishments of Northern East Asia to provide any examples.

I don't think a Manchurian city is likely. They weren't known for their science. Seoul could be replaced by a non-East Asian city, since this is the expansion. They changed Jakarta to Bandar Brunei in a DLC and still kept the same symbol. Whatever City-State replaces Seoul won't keep the same symbol, since it's so obviously Korean/or Chinese.

Oh, what about Taipei?

I'm not sure what the Chinese government would think of Taipei being a separate city from China in a game. Then again, Hong Kong is a city-state, but maybe they changed that in the Chinese version?

Dutch UU: Old women with parasols.
