Given that the first three "First Looks" we've seen have all come in the exact order we talked about them (first week was all Korea, second week conversation shifted to Netherlands, and then after the first livestream, it was all Mongolia), I would say there's a good chance that whichever civ comes next (and it'll likely be a newcomer at this point) is whichever civ we find ourselves talking about the most (unless they switch it up to mess with us).
Currently, that appears to be Georgia and Canada.
Also worth pointing out that it was around this time, relative to all the other civs in the base game, that the Aztec pre-order was announced (6th out of 20; about 1/4th of the way through-- we are currently at about 1/3rd for R&F). Assuming, of course, that there is a DLC tie-in for R&F, Xmas would probably be a likely time to announce it, I would think.
Canada? Sad that they seem more likely now. I had hoped for more worthy options for the 8 slots. My hope is that the Chateau Frontenac is a unique hotel building available for all, and not some harbinger of Canadian appearance in Civ.
Australia, Brazil, and now Canada....what next? Haiti? Gran Colombia is more worthy of entrance than Canada, but here we are...
First of all, r00d. Secondly, a DLC means that Canada wouldn't be taking one of the 8 spots. It'd be taking the 9th. You wouldn't even need to have it in your game if you were so inclined to purism.
Besides, do we actually know if there even is going to be a pre-order bonus for R&F? I can't remember how long it took them to announce it for vanilla.
It's an open question as to whether there will be DLC.
I don't think it's rude to disapprove of Canada's potential appearance in game. While I love Canada, I think they are far too young a nation to enter Civilization (I also resent the U.S. presence in the game, but given that it's a global power, at least there are *some* reasons for their entry in Civ as a major modern history power-broker.)
Honestly, it really depends on how you define a "nation", as countries like Germany have only popped up recently, despite having a culture, language, and identity stretching back to ancient Roman times. The "Canadian" identity first appeared as early as the 17th century, and the American one was a mismatch of different east-coast colonial identities that banded together during the revolution.
The problem, I think, is that too many people here and elsewhere think too much of the world from a modern-day perspective, and Canada especially. To me, I'd much rather see a 17th-century Canadian focus than a 20th-century Canadian focus, as that's where the real history was, and a genuine colonial-era civ would be so refreshing as we have literally never had one of those outside of CivCol. The 20th century is boring and overcrowded, anyways, and I never got everyone's fascination with a Canadian civ focused on that time period.
The highlighted part is really the reason why I want to see a Canadian civ as much as I do, and not necessarily because of any sense of pride as one might assume. I think it wouldn't be such a bad thing, would it? I just want more interesting civs from interesting time periods and focuses, and this one remains untapped after 6 iterations of Civ.
A DLC may be the ideal place for them to launch Canada, they could include a wonder and scenario as well. Anyway, a Canadian DLC would probably sell a lot, and it would bother some people less, since they would have the option of not buying.

Well, the Canadians here on the forum do not seem to be against a francophone leader, some even prefer this way because it would be a way to differentiate Canada from other English colonies. I don't know what the reception would be outside of Civfanatcs, but I think most people will not care, anyway.

I'm actually with you on this. I've always disliked the young nations appearing alongside Sumer/Babylon/Egypt/Greece. Having said that, I've grown to just accept the modern nations and realize that it brings in some hefty cash and lets players fulfill their roleplaying dreams without a mod.
I would have laughed at Canada's inclusion pre-Australia, but now that they and Brazil are in the game, I think Canada has a shot. This is part of why Canada seems unlikely for R&F specifically though. The main reason to include them is money from the huge Canadian market. From a marketing perspective, it makes sense to separate them into a separate DLC, since anybody buying DLCs is going to grab R&F regardless of the civs included. They would basically be guaranteeing that Canadian civ players open their wallets twice.
If they aren't in R&F though, why show Frontenac? It isn't a wonder, so the only other explanation is Canada as a civ.
I also fully expect our leader to be Francophone. Unless it's Macdonald.
