[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

Hem hem... Okay, Byzantium might wait, but I think I strongly disagree about the giant empire that territorries on three continents, conquered Byzantium and posed a serious threat to Europe: the Ottoman Empire ;)

I simply reply: Persia also was "only" a DLC. :p And so can the Ottomans, even double paired with Byzantium, too!

I guess my reasoning for Ottomans being left out is that I can't see a way that the Ottomans are added without the Byzantine counter-balance. So I'm betting they're both in xpac 2 _or_, in the unlikely event that DLC continues post R+F, they'd make a great DLC scenario together.
I agree. Byzantines and Ottomans have to be together by the time all the civs are finalized for the final expansion or DLC, whichever comes last.

I believe Civ5 had 18 Civs in the base game
7 Civs accross 6 DLCs
9 new Civs in EXP1
9 new Civs in EXP2

So far Civ6 has had 19 Civs in the base game +1 Leader
7 Civs accorss 6 DLCs
8 new Civs in EXP1 +1 Leader

So although we got 1 more Civ in the base game, we get 1 less Civ in the first expansion. But we do get 2 more leaders, but they shouldn't count as they aren't unique Civs.

Right. So they'll be even after one expansion if we don't have any DLC. 18+9 vs 19+8. I think DLC are more likely to be leaders and maps before the next expansion.

To be honest; if the only DLCs we get between expansions are Map packs and Alt-leaders (not full Civs) I wouldn't complain, I would be very happy with that; but I would still want more then 43 Civs in the end so if they do 3 Expanions of 8 Civs that means we would have 50 Civs and any ammount of Alt leaders I would be over joyed.

A little interlude between posts about leaks: I'm glad to have the Matterhorn. There are a lot of mountains with easily recognizable shape, but only a handful is as well known and iconic as the Matterhorn. It was also time for the Alps to get a natural wonder. They were left out in civ 5 for some reason and Vanilla also preferred Andes (Torres del Paine, great choice) and Himalaya (Everest, not a great choice - Kailash, Machapuchare or Ama Dablam would have been much more iconic). That it gives extra movement and combat strength seems a bit OP, but it's nice to have a little bit of Swissness in this ability. It's good that you get Alpine Training by being next to the Matterhorn instead of actually climbing it, otherwise it would be ironic.

Definitely agree - nothing against the mountains from elsewhere, but it's nice to see a nod to Switzerland and the Alps.

As for the bigger picture, with Isabella off the table as the extra leader, she could pair with the Inca in a DLC, as was speculated for the earlier DLC. Although I hope we get Inca in R&F.

Yes, great idea. Isabella + Inca (+ Machu Picchu), though they had the same DLC for civ 5.
Canada is still a possible DLC inclusion (with Chateau Frontenac)
Byzantium + Ottoman DLC
Probably another African DLC (Mali or Ethiopia)
And let's hope France and Egypt at least also get an additional leader, and if they then decide to include an alternate leader for America or Rome, i would be fine with it.

Could easily be put in a DLC with Hungary as well. Byzantium would than likely make an appearance in a second or third expansion pack. It wouldn't surprise me if they save them for last (because of the Antioch city-state -> that probably wouldn't be removed if Byzantines make an appearance and all the Greek and Eastern Mediterraen overrepresentation).

Imagine the TSL map with Gorgo, Pericles, Rome, Macedon, Hungary, Ottomans and Byzantium and an Italian city-state or multi-leader Italy civ. That would be CRAZY :=D And Georgia is also close by. It would be fun if we got an Eastern Meditterean map in case this happens. (Rome upper northwest, Georgia or Scythia upper northeast and Carthage and Nubia or Arabia/Sumeria to the upper southeast.

Why is Everest not a great choice? Isn't it the tallest Mountain in the world? I've only heard of Kailash out of the three other mountains you've mentioned. Do they have a more "iconic" shape than Everest?

DLC: Byanztines + Ottomans + TSL Europe map where you could do all of the European civs with everyone having enough room to at least found their capital.

Plenty of options for some fun map DLC in the future, with or without new civs/leaders.

But I hope they don't do only map packs.

I'm HOPING they keep doing DLC civs/scenario/map packs, but I'm not certain it will happen. I wish Firaxis would reassure us by saying, "We intend to continue doing DLCs after the xpac".

I already mentioned this on the thread discussing the leak, but Ill repeat myself. For anyone looking for more info on the Cree I recommend the Canadian Encyclopedia, it has tons of info on the Cree.

You're missing one more new Civ in your list, there's only 7. ;)

I bet there's a Cree achievement that references this guy:

Ottomans are too important a civ not to be in this expansion

There's absolutely no doubt the Ottomans are a very influential civ. They should be in R&F.

Really they should have been in the base game. But they weren't. I guess they will hold a couple of big guns back for a 2nd expansion. So we might not see them or the Incans/Mayans (surely one of those two has to come with this exp!) till then. Along with Babylon...
