[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

Why? As bad as the city lists are, I don't really see Yerevan being added to Georgia's. Yerevan is in Armenia.

Because at one point Yerevan belonged to Georgia. Otherwise, yes, it is now in modern day Armenia.

1. Portugal
2. Venice
3. Carthage/Phoenicia
4. Inca

VENICE!!!
I hope they bring back Enrico Dandolo at some point as a "1 settler challenge" Civ, it was such a unique and intresting playstyle.

There is one hundred and twenty doges of Venice. I'm sure that if we go with Venice again, we could do with another doge :)
I remember, when BNW came out, that the devs had a harsh time finding the good leader for Venice, because the Serenissime was just lead by a bunch of old greedy men who ruled for a short time. I'm sure, if Venice come again (but that's unlikely), Enrico Dandolo might not be in.

I think Ethiopia deserves more of a "Full Time" status, or do people think Nubia have decreased their odds this time around?

Dandolo is definitely one of the best leaders of Venice. Say, how many people managed to defeat change the course of crusade, defeat Byzantium and conquer Constantinople while being blind and about 90 years old? :P

But I won't mind some other Italian CS this time... Andrea Doria of Genoa... Lorenzo de' Medici of Florence... Papal State...

I'd love to see Ethiopia to return. Menelik II would make a really good choice for Ethiopian leader.

Air units?
THERE IS NO AIR COMBAT IN THIS GAME.

Can't speak for the others, but I did have some air combat my last game. Namely a fighter shooting down 2 of my jet bombers. It was dumb of me to send another one in, but I thought it was a fluke that I lost one jet bomber to a lowly fighter. Turns out it was no fluke. There just doesn't appear to be a way to attack a city with a fighter stationed in it. Maybe if I attacked it with my own fighter, but I only built one for a city state quest, I almost never build fighters. And this was on Prince difficulty mind you. I was actually impressed the AI managed to deploy a couple of fighters (at least 2 I saw). Of course it was Kongo, the only AI capable of doing anything it seems. If they cut the Aerodrome cost by 50% and the hangar/airport by 50% I think that would go a long way.

Of course there's still the problem of religion being too crappy and the AI devoting too many resources to it. As we know Kongo can at least get good tech. I can still roll over him of course, but at least he puts up a little more fight.

My biggest concern at this point is I haven't seen any information about new techs or civics. The trees are still so bare, and I'm beginning to think we aren't getting any new techs/civics. I can't recall ever getting an expansion pack without new techs (maybe Test of Time from Civ2 I don't know). And I'm also disappointed by the lack of new units. They need to abandon this idea of unit upgrades every other area, it's stupid imho.

I don't think there developers target some specific quota of female leaders. If some interesting civs have only male leaders, we'll have males.

My predictions are:
1. Inca. South America needs more civs. Incas are very famous and have a lot of uniqueness.
2. Ottomans/Turks/Seljuks. Large empires at some period. Turks are large and important country now. A lot of historically interesting elements.
3. Georgia. It has really cool female leader, it wasn't represented in the game yet, the meme is quite popular in civ community.
4. Mali. From all African civs it has one of the best placements in terms . Interesting and historically important. Was in Civ4, but not Civ5, which generally increases odds of repeating appearance.

EDIT: I also think Seljuk representation of Turks could result in some cool scenario about crusades with Tamar, Barbarossa and Suleiman II.

I'd like to add on top of Mali

Ed specifically mentioned how excited he was that Khmer were reintroduced after their omission from Civ 5, so it's QUITE possible that we will be saying Mali at some point in Civ 6.

No, I think Ethiopia's appearance in Civ V was so well-received that they're going to return at some point. I'd be very surprised if after two expansions we don't get an Ethiopia.

Edit: And on Mali? They HAVE to come back. I wouldn't be shocked if they were on this expansion right here. Civ VI needs more economic focused civ and Mansa Musa is way too popular for them to ignore that. I honestly think that the expansions for Civ VI will largely give homage back to Civ IV - both because theres an increase in vocal support of Civ IV (I think that naturally comes when you're two games beyond) and because the alternate leader mechanic is most definitely a call back.

I'd add Morocco to that list, but I have my doubts about it.

I'm hoping they continue releasing non-xpac dlcs. The more I examine RnF, the more I speculate I won't be buying it. But with enough mods, the vanilla game is very enjoyable, and I would continue to purchase vanilla dlcs. Maybe they'll eventually release Korea as a seperate dlc.

Really I just don't want to see Venice because Venice is a city-state and I don't see why it should be made an exception, but I'm pretty sure we're going to see Venice again because everyone else seems to love Venice.

I agree. I know I'm in the minority here but I'd rather see an italy "blob civ" than any of the individual cities.

Wouldn't it be better if Phoenicia was the city state civ this time around? With the same bonuses Venice had in 5, it would make more sense than of Venice since it didn't govern just Venice itself

I believe it’s more likely than not to be included by default because it’s featured in the promo video. The scene in the video is one of the more iconic eras of insane decline of population, which when you look at “Rise & Fall,” it seems to fit the bill. Has that purple been used yet, anyone keep tabs on that?

Ethiopia does deserve a better spot, Mali as well. Hopefully the next expansion will be more kind to Africa.

Would the trading posts become cities? How could that type of functionality play out in the game?

Beyond Earth had outposts that became cities after so many turns. The mechanic could be adapted.
