[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

Really the only way they could continue to release DLC would be to design those Civs around the features from the base game right? Civ V didn't get any DLC after its first expansion probably because needing an expansion (essentially DLC in this day and age) to play other DLC could be problematic

It seems that way.

Yeah, I think 3 total expansions are more likely than additional DLC.

PS, they probably won't officially announce the livestream until tomorrow.

So far the releases have gone like this:
district
improvement
building
-Chandragupta-
improvement
building

So the next three should be:
improvement
district
improvement

It would be great if the Inca had the Tambo as in improvement. It would give military benefits as well as housing, food and loyalty ones. This, of course, would go well with some type of rendering of the Inca Trail as they were found around their road system.

From the leaders announced so far, which ones you guys think are "atheist scum" (leaders that don't go for religion unless they have a really good reason to do so), if any of them?

I want that too. I'd like to see it get additional yields when worked in cities with a governor. TBH, the terrace farms just seem stale. I hope they don't use them as a UI.

@leandrombraz Probably all of them except Tamar.

I could see Wilhelmina being one, considering the Netherlands were secular already in the 20th century, maybe the mongols?

Is it really that unthinkable to have post expansion pack DLC though ? A not very exact analog, the sims have been notorious in releasing expansion pack and you could purchase each one separately and some of the feature won’t show up unless you have both expansion A and expansion B. So theoretically Firaxis could do something like “if you have this EP that new civ will have something +2 loyalty points , if you only have base game, that feature will instead become +2 coin or science or whatever that fits.

I’d like to see terrace farms just because I know the artwork would be spectacular.

My guesses for the three unrevealed remaining:

Inca: UI (Tambo sounds good.)
Turks: UD (Bazaar replacing the CH)
Mali:UI (some sort of trading post UI. UA will be focuses on mines)

Hopefully it's better than in Civ V where just looked like strange green pagodas.

My guess is one more expansion with changes to spying, a new world congress, and 8 or so new Civs to include the Byzantine Empire.

Then an extra civ leader pack or 2 that would double the number of leaders in the game and add some more wonders.

That would be awesome, yes. It would fit perfectly with the governor mechanism.

I am glad you thing the same way as I do. Although terrace farms have their charm, they seemed one dimensional to me. I also hope they don't use them as well. They would have to come up with something very unique for me to be happy with them.

Indeed. They were a big let down in Civilization 5.

Would love to see majestic mountains and foothills littered with farms and windy roads and condors sailing around on the mountain air. Not to mention, alpacas and llamas grazing on alpine grass.

That would be a cool improvement for them. They could nod to the terrace farms by simply building them into the UA somehow. "Can build farms on hills. Receive adjacency bonus next to mountains." kind of deal.

Well it depends how successful Rise and Fall is. I'm aware a significant amount of the Civilization playerbase ended up going back to Civ V, so there's a chance this coming expansion may not do as well as Firaxis would like it to.

Of course I hope that isn't the case. Civ V is very difficult for me to play. If Firaxis actually bothered to fix the UI and improve the AI, maybe those people who didn't have the patience will return to Civ VI.

To be fair, EA doing something is not exactly a reason to consider that thing "okay"...

I mean, I'm hoping for post-expansion DLCs, but if you have to compare with EA to justify it...

Firaxis answered my tweet on twitter today. The next livestream is next thursday. Makes sense as this day marks 4 weeks till release (feb8)

I'm betting the move of the Livestream to Thursday instead of Wednesday has something to do with the Cree controversy....

Not sure, but there were issues with the timing as it was the same time as Quill18's Livestreams (which I've been watching lately). Early in December I had to choose Quill 18 over the Firaxis one (which I just caught later that afternoon). Firaxis had asked him if he could move his, and he did for one week. I believe he's back to his usual Wednesday livestreams. And of course there is conflict since he was actually playing Civ6 at the time (though I think he will continue his SMAC livestream from Saturday tomorrow). So you have the same fan base split, which can cause issues.
