[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

If they have the exact same purpose there is really not all that much reason for the water parks existance other than saving a few tiles.

I for one, wouldn't mind the option of building on the water. Playing as Indonesia on actual islands (Earth maps) or even Rome on Earth map (peninsula), land space is at a premium.

So there are only five City-states which haven't been spotted in the First Looks or Livestreams: Hong Kong, Jerusalem, Kumasi, Nan Madol, Toronto.
Only the Ashanti or Canada seem likely to have been made into Civs. The Cree make Canada unlikely though. And I don't expect the Ashanti (the Zulus are the most likely African Civ in R&F).

Coney Island, Atlantic City Boardwalk, Cedar Point, Blackpool, and such come to mind.
Or Southend Pier - the longest pier in the world. (Which is surprising seeing as every other "biggest" or "longest" or "tallest" the UK had has been beaten by other countries.)
In fact it is so long that it has it's own train that runs between either end of the pier.

Also in reference to City-states remaining @Kimiimaro ; I do not think we will get a civ out of Jerusalem or Nan Madol as they have achivements tied to them. Hong Kong is highly unlikely as it's always been a city-state historically and never had any holdings as far as I'm aware.
Which means we are only left with Kumasi and Toronto as possible Civs.

It's annoying that we've not seen a "new" industrial or cultural city-state though, as it will confirm either of them. But it's still a big coincidence that we've not seen them yet...

They have dogs with servants holding sticks (scouts) and dogs with servants wearing fur hats (Rangers), but they still need to add dogs with servants using plastic swords like Phillip II (Explorers).

I like how dogs bark orders to their servants when they fight. It reminds me of the generals in Civs 3 and 4.

Or reverse Pokemon. “HOO-MAN USE HIT WIT STICK!”

It was announced yesterday to be released today. Still without cross platform. There seems to be a real problem implementing that. They‘ll try again with R&F.

I recently started a game project centered around online play and I completely understand the cross platform play being difficult. Online, to keep people in sync, you need deterministic code. Different OSs (especially different kinds like Linux vs Mac vs Windows) deal with floating point precision differently. Basically, one OS rounds up, the other rounds down and now the entire game desyncs. Given the number of floats in Civ, this would be a nightmare....

The thing is, we don't have a culture civ yet. Aside from the suggestion of an Italian Republic civ, Ashanti and Canada are really the only options out of the most suggested civs. I actually think Ashanti stand a good chance. I'm rooting for them.

Let's discuss lesser-known facts of each leader.

Let me begin with Genghis Khan the secret Brony:

There's also Seondeok the Gosu, Wilhelmina the Kirby Fan, Tamar the Meme Queen, and Poundmaker the Litigious.

I would love to see who modders put in as governors. From different games to famous memes.

99% of them will be anime. Guaranteed.

Firaxis put out the word today that they are hiring various 3D art positions. Sukritact says that he has applied for one. Since they did a big hiring push for R&F just as XCOM's expansion came out, I would guess they are hiring for a second expansion for XCOM as R&F comes out.

I would seriously pay $10 if they did Civ specific artwork with Civ specific names for all the governors. Sort of like a vanity DLC.

Otherwise, I hope the modders take this up.

I agree, but it sounds like they are definitely punting this one to the modders.

Hey, at least they made them moddable, right?

Indeed. Glad that it is moddable. That way I won’t have a governor shaped like an eggplant. Lol.

With R&F we'll have 34 civilizations. That would be 34*7=238 governors. If they have cool designer, which could make 2 high-quality governor artworks per day in a stable way, that's 119 work days or half a year. Cost of half a year for a good designer should be about $60K (with workspace, social expenses and so on). Together with names, localization and testing, let's say costs should be around $75K. Since only about 20-25% of the costs goes to developer, Firaxis need to make around $300K to make this DLC not a financial loss, thus selling 30K copies for $10. I understand what you'd probably buy it, but finding 30K buyers for pure easthetic Civ DLC is quite unlikely.

So, yep, mods to come.

I have came up with possible pairs of leaders with similar base models:
  • Tamar and Tomyris
  • CdM and Gorgo
  • Jadwiga and Victoria
  • Cleopatra and Gitarja
  • Amanitore and Wilhelmina
  • Hojo Tokimune and Poundmaker
  • Phillip II and Peter the Great
  • Gilgamesh and Chandragupta Maurya
  • Qin Shi Huang and Genghis Khan
  • Pedro II and Pericles
  • Harald Hadrada and Frederick Barbarossa
  • Saladin and Montezuma
  • Trajan and John Curtin
  • Teddy Roosevelt and Jayavarman VII
Can you come up with others? Are there better pairs?

So, by your math, it cost over $1,260 to make a governor that looks like an eggplant. Lol.
