[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

I've seen a few emergency posts on here where only the player is taking part, so there's no sharing the reward. Is the AI refusing to join in for some reason?

Yes, in my game I recently had a military emergency against Seondeok after she conquered Wilhelmina's capital. The other potential participants on the continent were Robert and of course Wilhelmina. Robert was Wilhelmina's direct neighbor in the east, but both refused to join the emergency. I was the only one. I freed Amsterdam and returned the city to Wilhelmina. The reward was 5400 gold, if I remember correctly. A lot of money for just a single Player.

Had my first city flip to me yesterday. Scythia settled a little too close to my cree city and immediately started to suffer. I soon declared war on her and handling it easily but kind of regret it because i dont want the war mongering. Might just peace deal and take her stuff but give back the city, it’s tundra locked anyway.

This is on emperor, might go immortal or deity if the city spacing issue is fixed.

The city state emergency rewards are a bit overpowered.
Combine that with the Big Ben...

It would be fun if they'd put some new dialog in to cover that eventuality - "Hey, actually your Empire looks way nicer to live in than mine, can I come live there instead?"

I see it more as a revolution, with the disloyal citizens dragging poor Catherine to the guillotine :P

Do you actually also get the "You defeat me"-screen when you remove a leader from the game peacefully?

Nope, didn't get anything like that. Of course, they flipped to free cities at first. Technically, one of her cities had her as second most pressure, I guess it's theoretically possible that she'd come back if that free city would get into rebellion while she'd have the most total pressure on it.

Hmm, in that specific case I can kinda understand why Wilhelmina would sit out the emergency even though its her capital - presumably she had already had her military wrecked in the war that led to her capital being captured. Robert though, he should have been right in there, particularly since Robby's meant to like helping out his immediate neighbours...

Does anyone have a photo of the wheel of time in color? The one you see on the starting menu screen. I kinda like it.

Is it just me, or the -2 Loyalty penalty for Police State policy is too low? Also, on loyalty screen it shows - I'm assuming it is this policy - "Other effects: -1". Shouldn't it be 2?

Also, could someone please check if New Deal policy correctly decreases -8 Gold from cities? There is no indication of it on Reports or City screen, and last time I checked it didn't work (or I just overlook it, very plausible).

Also also, combining Cryptography and Police State reduces spy levels by 4? (2 for each) Or they don't add up? :D

[sorry for the weird questions :cringe:]

Yes, that's exactly how it was, Seondeok wrecked Wilhelmina's empire with Knights. The first 20 turns of the emergency I was busy removing her units from the area of the former Netherlands. Robert should have helped in any case, instead my entry into the emergency triggered his agenda, that I should not attack any neighbors.

Just had an extremely fun game as Wilhelmina on an Archipelago map. Played on Immortal. I still hope they will introduce a new mechanic for the late-game sometime, I think it needs extra oomph still. But for this game, all kinds of stuff was going. I have to say that I love the new Alliance system. *Finally* there is a bit of meaningful diplomacy in the game. This resulted in me getting pulled into a war in the late game and having a very epic naval war with Genghis where neither of us got a real upper hand. Best naval warfare I've experienced in the game for sure.
Meanwhile, all kinds of crazy stuff was going on with India (my Alliance partner) losing cities due to loyalty on his continent when he fell into a dark age, emergencies were firing (one for Genghis and a betrayal emergency for someone else), spies were sabotaging my Spaceport and neutralizing my governors while I kept my own spies busy going round the enemy Spaceports.

I was ahead in my Culture game though but it was still one of the more exciting games I've had in the endgame.

Like I said, I hope they will still introduce a mechanic for the endgame similar the UN or whatever but this was definitely one of the most fun games I've had overall (and consistently throughout the endgame).

What's the normal amount and how would I go about getting rid of all preferred agendas?

Also, what do Gossip, Sycophant, and Sympathizer do?

Sympathizer gives a bonus when you are in dark age and malus when in golden age, Gossip likes when you interact diplomatically with them, Curmudgeon hates opposite sex, Flirtatious likes opposite sex and Sycophant not entierly sure, but I think it likes you when you are in a golden age.

Seems like 8 tiles is the new minimum distance now, I also started with an AI eight hexes away. Fortunately I was playing on King so I managed to get a city between us first.

With that said, it seems like the AI still settles distant cities sometimes. Scotland has settled three cities that have loyalty flipped (two to me, one remained a free city until I conquered it) in my first game, due to being too far from his core.

My first game I had Persia five hexes away from me...

They combine yes and thank goodness. Spy levels can get pretty high otherwise... but TBH you would not take police state unless you had potala or similar as the better second spy card is def Machiavellianism. Spies are expensive, luckily their cost is not linear but rather tied to their number so you need the 50% becuase you will loose some. Its trhe 25% mission reduction time that makes spies worth playing, especially combined with the 50%... a strong card... but yes, late and on the defensive they may be the best pair I guess.

In the base game Teddy (environmental) and Gandhi (nukes) have preferred 2nd agendas that they will always get. These are the first that I have seen that only cause it to be a percentage more likely.

@thecrazyscot has a mod that removes the preferred 2nd agendas for Ted and Gandhi in vanilla, maybe he will be making one for RF?

So, first game and AI is still stupid as hell. Absolutely terrible at micro managing their army. As soon as their units are at critical health they simply fortify instead of running away or moving healthy units to front. Another episode, 5 warriors around my capital at the beginning, could've capped it in 2 turns, yet they danced around it trying to encroach it completely for some reason, while my two archers destroyed them. Why there is no outrage about WORST AI IN THE SERIES? I'm done, wake me up in few years at next expansion.
