I got started on my first R&F game last night. Cree, King, Continents, small map. So far I've barely scratched the surface of the new features, but I am having fun with it. I started on the western part of a fairly large continent, which I share with Kongo and the Mongols.
I'm loving the Cree land grab ability, and finding their scout to be interesting, but not as effective in combat as I had hoped. The fact that it doesn't benefit from the Oligarchy combat buff hurts it. It is excellent for actual scouting, however, but a bit on the expensive side. I have been lucky enough to get 2 scouts from goody huts, and built another 2. I have gotten 1 to level 3 and another very close. I plan to build Terracotta Army to push them to level 4. Free cities help somewhat with XP farming.
One thing I appreciate is that the starting positions seem to be fixed now, with myself starting on the western part of the continent, Genghis starting in the east, and Mvemba starting in the middle. As for forward settling, Genghis tried that with Mvemba. That city then flipped, and is now Kongolese. Good stuff. Poor Genghis is paying dearly for his bad decision, as he lost that one city to loyalty, and an unescorted settler to a fast-moving Cree scout.
