Rise And Rule Revisited (epic mod)

Suspence, it seems you have not replaced the text files of RARR by the new text files in the patch you have downloaded. This patch must be extracted and the two textfiles in it (Pediaicons and Civilopedia) must replace the old textfiles with those names in the text folder of your RARR scenario.

To extract a zipped file with the ending .rar you need a special software called WinRAR. You can find many download links for WinRAR by a Google search. This software is share ware, but free for a certain trial phase to test that program (I don´t know by heart about the current length of that trial phase). This program is very handy and frequently used for the downloads at CFC.

I try to attache zip-files of both textfiles and hope you are able to extract them (as they were also done with WinRAR). Please download both files and try to extract them with your zip-program. If you are able to extract them, overwrite both files with the names Pediaicons and Civilopedia in the text folder of your RARR-scenario (and don´t mess them up with your original text files for C3C !)

So everything else is fine, but download those two links and save them over the originals by those names? Just making sure I don't need to delete anything.

Just downloaded your two links and overwrote the files in the Test folder of that scenario. I'm still getting the name error message.

Should I just uninstall and delete everything, and try over?

I really don't understand what i'm doing lmfao

My files are set up like this.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization III Complete\Conquests\Scenarios

Under this I added the Rarr Main file/folder, and the RARR1.6.biq

In Rarr Main, I have another file by the same name and the application (a .exe file, 2.74GB)

Within the Rarr Main's Rarr Main folder, in the "Text" file folder, I replaced over Pediaicons and Civilopedia with the two links you just shared an hour ago. Should the Rarr Patch remain in the Text folder as well or no?

As it is now, i'm still getting this stupid Palace Garden message as a reason why the game must exit.

Hey guys,

Any ideas of how can I make modern times' music play? Right now when I get to the last age I still get the medieval piano music.

It seems you have the "folder inside the folder problem".

a) The RARR Mainfolder and the RARR-biq inside the Conquests\Scenarios folder are correct.

b) Inside the RARR folder, there should only be the folders Art, Text and sounds -not another RARR folder.

rarr-folder-jpg.512960

Inside the text folder above the Pediaicons and the civilopedia file must be changed.

If you have another RARR folder inside the RARR folder, the RARR-biq doesn´t find the Art-, sounds- and Text-folders as it is searching them with a wrong path.

keli, I will have a look into that problem when I have the time for it. May be in the meantime, another civer can help you with this problem.

If the Rarr.biq goes in the conquests/scenario folder, and there shouldn't be another Rarr folder within the Rarr folder; where does the Rarr 2.74 GB application go?

Suspence, I don´t know what is about your "2,74 GB application". I just made a complete download of the RARR mainfile, all is running well and extracted it has only 1,72 GB:

rarr-1-72gb-jpg.512994

I have no idea about your "2,74 GB application". Can it be that this is the programm Win.rar ? If you have the files arranged in a folder called RARR inside the C3C folder called scenarios and the RARR biq in the folder Scenarios outside the folder RARR try if you can run the scenario RARR.

Unfortunately now my time is running out. If there are still problems, may be some other civer here can help you.

I don't know why it says it has a different amount of space, but it is the Rarr Mainfile - the first one I was supposed to download. Where is this one supposed to be? If I get rid of the folder-within-a-folder, and have it look like yours, where does the Rarr Mainfile go? Is it also in the folder with the Text, Art, Sounds, etc. icons? Or is it supposed to be in the scenarios WITH the Rarr 1.6 biq?

Suspence, things are like I told you. If you still have problems, please delete all your installations and try to download and to install them again.

I managed to get things working!!!

...mostly?? Some little things aren't right at all. All text is not where it should be (for example, AI aggressiveness is listed as less aggressive, normal, more, most, and militarist - with "least aggressive" as the header and not an option. Zoom to city is "Hurry Production" - etc) Everything is where it's supposed to be, just with the wrong words. Also every civ has the wrong strengths listed in the selection compared to civilopedia page on that civ. All these are easily worked around, just a little frustrating.

(EDIT: Just realized the slider adjusting wasn't a bug, but a feature. Read the Frequently Asked Questions in the civilopedia hehe)

Some observations:

- I really like how jungles/marshes/mountains limit movement more. I actually dislike the "hardy" options for settler types, because it limits start-game expansion to an extent and for whatever reason, the hardy settlers take less citizens which is always the better option in my (so-far) limited experience. I really think the tribe idea is a cool one, also! So many times i'm one square away from an amazing capital city location and don't want to waste a vital turn.

- All the new resources and luxuries and bonuses! Amazing. And I love how all the ancient techs slowly unfold to reveal more and more of the map, I love it. Have yet to be in a situation where i've had horses, camels, or elephants yet tho. Very excited to eventually see what units i'll be able to build.

- The tech tree, not too hard to follow, and the research speed on techs is way fast. I played one game on a large map, with a ton of other civs, on Regent. Quickly found myself barely in the second era while the other civilizations were starting to drop bombs on my cities with planes. No idea how that happened. Hahaha The other games i've played, with less civs and on Warlord mode, i've found myself rapidly outpacing the other civs in tech - even without building the free-tech wonders. Weird!

- Normally, I try to be finished with any regular game of Civilization before the Modern era. Idk why, but with more advanced naval options and bombs and aircrafts and everything else, the modern era is just too complicated and overwhelming to me most of the time whereas the first three eras aren't. In this, even the ancient era can be a bit overwhelming with the vast quantity of building options. I was surprised to see School of Scribes, libraries and academies all available so early all doing essentially the same function when techs can be researched in four turns without any of these to begin with. That being said, in vanilla, the options for structures and units is so limited in the first two eras that the game can feel insulting. Hard to find a good balance, but I appreciate the difference in play style!

- My workers are more bold than in vanilla?? Maybe i'm crazy! I feel like in Vanilla, my workers would never build roads connecting two cities that are far away from each other and not connected by culture. In this they do. Not only that, but my citizens cross other civs land all the time to reach other parts of my civ, another feature I don't recall in Vanilla. Coincidence or intentional?

- New Civilizations are really cool. I really enjoy Siam and Tibet so far, and Polynesia keeps declaring war on me and get fudged. lol

- Fur Traders and Gold Forge and stuff are cool! Do AI Civilizations actually build these and know how to deliver them? Just curious. It's a cool feature, shame it can't be automated, but every 15 turns is a long enough gap that it isn't a big deal.

- Rome built Slave Trade wonder giving them all the Slave Markets, then between that and me bankrupting them through trade, I keep having their cities culturally transferred to me within several turns. Is this a common experience, does the AI not know how to build things to prevent unhappiness? I like the slavery idea a lot and it's something I wish was present within the main Civilization game itself, in some way or another.

- Sacrificing: Wonderful concept, shame we can't do it with our own unites. I had about a dozen scouts left over after my whole pangae was explored, and I was bummed to see I couldn't sacrifice them. Most of them didn't even give me any shields in their disbandment's :(

All in all, excellent changes to the game. Lots of little bugs still to be worked out i'm sure, but I like how this looks a lot! Thanks guys for all your help, and keep up the good work!

Suspence, congratulations for managing how to install the game. Your report shows, that it was worth all the efforts in explaining how to install the game. :)

The errors by the twisted texts in the scenario are not errors by the mod neither errors of you in installing the mod. It´s a problem of Steam. In the text folder of RARR please change the name of labels to labels1 (or something like that) and rename the file 'labels-Steam CivComplete Patch" to labels. Steam spoiled all existing Civ 3 scenarios by adding a new line into that text file and is responsible for this big mess. As such a nonsense, that Steam did 'over night' to Civ 3 Complete, can happen to every game running with Steam, it should always be considered not to buy games at Steam, but at GoG (that per example offers Civ 3 Complete without DRM and the danger of manipulations as they are done by Steam).

labels-text-jpg.513096

All credits for gameplay and the settings of this scenario are going to the ancient creators of DyP and RAR. I only made a graphical update of that scenario.

hello,

its been a while I didn't play civ3 and downloaded your mod. I have a question: I want to play a map I designed but looks like is also a biq file as your mod. How to play a custom map using your mod, is there a way, please?

With the import-function of the editor, you can even import a map to the rules of a special scenario or the rules of a scenario to a special map. After the import of the new files you will have a new biq and can give it a new name, while still holding your old biqs.

editor-import-jpg.513102

In both cases please check, that the terrain and the resources on the map are fitting with the map and use the C3C editor 1.00 (or the Quintillus editor) and not the C3C editor 1.03 (coming with the current installation of Civ 3 Complete), otherwise you will loose the option of scientific leaders in the game.

Civinator, I found another bug with aztec Airacobra .flc file. Game reports sudden error:

111.jpg

In the relevant folder I found all needed files, but as it turned out, they weren't named correctly:

222.jpg

Just inserted the required underlines in the filenames and the game moved on as it had to be:

So so, I think I made some progress?

I figured out where the Civilization III folder and all it's contents were, I inputted everything (the Patch, which was never a zip or anything but just a .rar and never gave me the option to do anything with) and I put that in the Main file's text folder which I put within the Conquests/scenarios folder itself. My screen looks like your screenshot. Everything should be good to go?

But when I try to start the game from that civ-content, it just says:

Missing entry in "Scenarios/../../Conquests/Conquests/NapoleonicEurope/text/Pedialcons.text": ICON_BLD_Palace_Garden

(Only the / marks are facing the other direction, don't know how to fix the dash marks)

I'm so close but I don't know what I did wrong.
to play RARR You must activate RARR1.6.biq file from the Scenarios game menu

Izengrimm, that error with the aztec Airacobra was reported long ago:

https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/rise-and-rule-revisited-epic-mod.549166/page-21#post-14322749 and https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/rise-and-rule-revisited-epic-mod.549166/page-21#post-14326570 .

In my current RARR files this error is fixed with a changed INI-file of that unit. It´s better to change the INI than several flc-files. Until the download for the next version, that will be a combined expanded mainfile holding all files to play CCM2, CCM1 and RARR (and may be a special new Age of Discovery scenario), the working INI-file for that unit is attached to this post.

keli, many posts ago in the RARR thread, Virote_Considon pointed me to the fact, that the search path in the RARR biq (in the scenario properties registry) even influences the sound played in this mod.

reason_zpshvxyfbvh.png~original

To replace the complete search path in the biq by the word RARR is working for enabling the standard sound settings, in my massively enhanced working version for the next combined files for RARR, CCM2 and CCM1, as here the settings of units are independant from any searching paths. I cannot say if this method is working for your version of RARR as I don´t have that version any longer on my pc to avoid any mix-ups between the different versions. The best is to have a copy of your current RARR biq and than change the RARR biq by replacing the old searching path with the new path only holding the word RARR. If your game crashes, you have to reactivate your old copy of the RARR biq and have to wait for the normal music until the release of the next version of RARR. If the game does not crash, all is fine for you with the new biq. :)
