Rise of the Machines

yup - i've got it - had a look around this morning and will try and knock it off tonight.

Germany is on their last legs. The collective spent the first few rounds scouting out the humans with our slave workers and getting the mech warriors in the proper places. We then proceeded to subjugate all of the German cities except for G-Prime (or what will shortly be G-Prime). We have enough money to upgrade all of our faithful catapults to glorious killing mechs and so we can start researching other ways of killing.

The other alternative is that G-Prime has the great triangular pile of stones and so we could start to use the $ to buy mechs.

Here is the final roll of the dice for the Germans ...

And the save ...

Heh, the Germans go BOOM!
I was actually thinking pop

[0] 1550AD - First, I rename Neapolis R5, because that appears to be its logical number. :)

Next, I wake up some sleeping workers and make them road some tiles.

Next I upgrade some catapults to cannons.

Next, I take research up to 50%, so we get Banking in two turns. With our economy, we really need banking, and I don't think we should abandon all home-land buildup entirely, just in case Alex or Mansa pull something funny. ;)

I also rush the courthouse in R1, because it's got a whole lot of population, and also a whole lot of maintenance cost.

[1] 1555AD - We take Berlin and with it - the life of the German people.

The remaining troops start marching for the Greek lands.

[2] 1560AD - We get Banking, start research on Paper.

[3] 1565AD - Time to start the ol' war machine rolling again. :) I declare on Alex.

[5] 1575AD - Ooh, look, a Greek SoD appears. It consists of three Knights, a mace and a cat. (Also, a cat attacks one of our stacks IBT, but dies.)

The city of Ephesus burns at the loss of one cannon.

The city of Herakleia is taken at no losses.

The city of Knossos burns. No losses. We do, however, enslave some Greek humans and send them to toil for the betterment of our homeland.

[6] 1580AD - We get Paper. Start on Printing Press.

The city of Thessalonica burns at the loss of a cannon.

The rest of the turns are spent setting up an attack on the next Greek city - the one with the Spiral Minaret, and that is the Christian holy city. Now, it is at 0% defense, and has only a few wounded defenders. Should fall easily next turn.

Also, we are running 30% science and are in the red. However, the Forbidden Palace will be completed next turn and a bunch of Banks, so that should help us out financially significantly.

Good luck, Ham. You can probably largely eradicate the Greeks in your turns. Who knows, maybe this game won't even make it back to me again. :)

Quick post for me:

The construction of numerous banks and the Forbidden Palace has helped our economy considerably. Having them come in (all at the same time) raised gold by roughly 100gpt, which is not bad. If we really wanted more, we could consider a switch to Mercantilism, since we're at war ;) with both our neighbors anyway.

Well, our machines are continuing to rise. We took four Greek cities (one of them was one just settled by Alex) this turn, keeping two of them (so that we had places to repair our cannons more quickly).

Additionally, I declared war on Mansa, so that our cannons from the western part of the continent would have something to do other than simply cross all the way to the eastern side and then go back to the western by the time we got done with Alex. I took one Malinese city and we should be able to capture another next turn.

Finally, I began construction of the Glove Theatre in Delhi, because the people there were unhappy. I can't believe how ungrateful some of these citizens of the future can be. Note to next machine: we can whip the Theatre to completion with only 5 population. I suppose another possibility would be to turn the governor to production instead of gold, since we really don't need any more technical innovations (although I did turn research up because I didn't see any need for gold either).

Kill all human (rulers)! Our prime directive should be complete soon.

Hey, so vovan, ruff_hi, I'm trying to get another SG running that uses a mod. Any interest in getting moving on it while we're waiting for icelion? It's the Europa Europa mod, and the thread for it is probably on the second page of SG threads right now. Let me know if you'd be in... (I've changed my mind about the difficulty listed there now though - I'm thinking monarch or emperor)

Hey, guys, would you like to switch IceLion and ruff for this round, so ruff can play his turns, and then pass it on to IL, when he will hopefully have a bit more time? :)

Vovan

Ok, I have it. It is snowing a fit here today so lots of opportunity for CIVing.

Battle Front
Date Line 1670 AD
This is John Griff reporting to you live from the battle front where humanity is in a pitched fight to the death. This war has been raging for centuries between the once 6 human civilizations and the cruel mindless machines. As of today, there are only 2 civilizations remaining – the Greek and the Mali. We have seen our proud partners the Japanese, the Romans, the Germans, the Aztecs and perhaps most viciously, the Germans. At one stage it was thought that the Germans where working for the machines fighting against the humans but after their cities were over-run in a few short years recently, and according to stories from the fleeting public, it now appears as if they were duped.

When I reported last, the Greeks were battling valiantly and had 4 glorious cities supplying their fighting forces. Today, I am sorry to report that the Greeks are in full fledged retreat and only have 1 small town on the North East of our planet.

Here are some of the scenes from the Greek battle front that I have seen recently …

We have heard reports that the machines are renaming their cities Gr1, Gr2, Gr3, etc based on when they fall. Is it any wonder that humanity is fighting such a desparate battle against these uncouth, vulgar acts.

On the Mali battle front, a valiant counter attach was launched …

sc0076tl.jpg

Unfortunately, they walked right into a hidden force of mech-warriors that decimated this courageous effort. The line of wounded soldiers returning from that failed attempt was very demoralizing.

Finally, we have stories from the underground that dissent is rising in the humans that are under the machines control. I recently obtained this information from the machines capital …

Holy !!!! 17 unhappiness from the war! What's wrong with these pathetic humans? Are we running pacifism or something? That's just insane!

Also, how do you get your pictures in there? You're not using imageshack, I don't think, but I'm curious as to what you are doing... so I can do something similar, since it looks so nice.

I am using imageshake - I use GIMP to edit, cut, etc and then upload to image shake and post a image link in my post.
