Rise of the Pasha [K-Mod]

Ha...what American shows do you watch? The best shows are on cable, but that may not mean anything to you.

I have a Challenge 5 game going. Probably made a mistake vassaling an AI on my continent, but I'm ready to unless mass overseas Berzerker attacks.

What is Clicking LoL?

I have brief non-civving spells, but mainly in HOF mode at the moment.

Did anyone try XCom? Never really played the original.

astre - We don't need Cavs and certainly should not wait for Rifling to attack, but it does not matter what we tech now.

regular for Big Bang Theory which should be obvious.
watched couple of Revolution, but not sure i will follow whole season.
preparing for Once Upon a Time, but it somewhat "ended" in season 1.
and last is Homeland, but for that I have to get the right of mood to watch all episodes in one.

Out of the new ones i watched pilot for Go On, but didn't got into it. Last Resort looked good in pilot, but if you get under the hood...well didn't watch ep 2 and what I read it doesn't look like it picked off to good start anyway.

Would love Smash, but that would next year spring.

LoL = League of Legends and I think the season 2 finals bring me back in full. It's the only reasonable e-sport I am willing to watch. It somewhat reminds me of ice hockey ;-).

as per 5...well i start on continent with Sury and some pushover and went with 1200 AD cuirs on the pushover and now was attacking 11 city Sury at 1400 AD and it went nowhere so I deleted the saves.
It's dumb that someone will start with 4 AI's on same continent and the other will be lucky with 2...it really MAKES DIFFERENCE.

I guess my non-willingness to micro influences the games too obviously... I hope I will return to game 3, 5 eventually since the setup is decent to be at least in the table.
I hate all those diplo though. The Monarch quick was fiasco saturday and the OCC Emperor couple weeks ago was another debacle.

Homeland is the best thing on TV! Amazing! Most of the others mentioned are regular Network TV. I used to watch Bang and it is great, but just don't have time for it. As for Revolution, I just don't buy the conceit of the show and the acting is sketchy. "Smash" is very much not my type of show. "Once Upon A Time" is ok, but again, one of those series that I lacked time for. I watch a lot of British shows.

American must-see shows:

Breaking Bad (one of the best shows in history)
Dexter
24
The Wire
Deadwood
Walking Dead!!!

OCC Diplo is tricky. I should have come close or tied Shulec's date. I may try again with more AIs

well i've just finish my first game of XCOM 10 minutes ago (3rd on 4 difficulty level)
not sure i'll do another one...
back in the time i played several of the first one.

for waiting before attack, we have 4 turns of forced peace :)

For shows, i usualy watch dexter, BBT and How i meet your mother plus walking dead.

Oh gosh! How could I forget "Walking Dead"! Brilliant!

Nice job again lymond. :)

Not too much to add other than seemingly heal up and DoW Ethiopia in four turns.

Civics could be reviewed ... I lean to Free Speech and State Property, but can see cases for alternative civic combinations.

I didn't realise that there's a Barbarian food-rich city that can be taken to the north east of the landmass for some extra land area!

Akhetaten can 'Build Culture', work the Oil, and run an Artist or two to get a quick border pop for some more tiles. Similarly for Pi Ramesses.

May as well starve Elephantine down with more Artists and in the meantime also initiate our penultimate Golden Age.

So, with hindsight, what's the verdict on K-Mod?

Off Topic

I've not seen Walking Dead (it's at our DVD hire store, but I've yet to hire it).

My sister's a Breaking Bad fan, but it seemed both slow paced and miserable every time I gave it a shot.

Deadwood was great (albeit several years old now). Most of those HBO series are good imho.

I really like Dexter, but worry that each season is getting a little like the last. I see similarities with House, where they're stuck between (a.) not wishing to stray too far from a winning formula, versus (b.) wanting to keep the show fresh by introducing new plots and characters, where I think generally they fall back to (a.), guessing that they're not willing to risk alienating the dedicated fan base. Mrs. Cam couldn't stand the Deborah Morgan in Dexter, so I have to watch it alone.

I liked the first couple of seasons of Big Bang Theory, but I felt it went down quickly when they started to get girlfriends and make lame lewd jokes constantly. I always struggled with the very loud 'laugh track'.

How I Met Your Mother too is one that I don't mind from time-to-time ('Robyn Sparkles'!).

I also watch some British stuff. 'Life on Mars' and 'Ashes to Ashes' a few years back were two favourites.

quick verdict on k-mod: if you can survive the beginning, you have won as the AI don't think enough about the future.

but the beginning is quite interesting :)

for civic: not sure to drop merchantilism as it will remove one specialist from elephantine and thus delay our victory :p

You can get the next :gp: in Elephantine by starving it down with more Artists well before we will get the required land area. It's all ''fluffing' around the edges' though. Best of luck.

well verdict on K-mod... I think a lot of adjustments made it more war game then builder game.

some of the mechanic changes were kinda ???

I think k-mod deity has to be super challenging, maybe on the level of always war games.

overall didn't like the direction the game went with this. our hand was forced on couple of occassions and if didn't thrive through the wars we would horribly fail.

it was good SG though and I enjoyed it very much (even if I didn't participate in the end due to some personal issues), next time we should try something different though... not sure if it should be another mod or more "basic" gameplay.

Kmod is ok. Seems harder earlier, but gets just as easy later on. Main thing for me is the things he took out of the BUG mod. Don't see any reason for it.

RFC: Dawn of Civilization might make for a good SG. RFC comes with some built in victory conditions which are variants unto themselves.

OT:

"Life On Mars" was fantastic. I still need to watch the follow-up "Ashes". "Spooks" was great fun although a bit crazy near the end. "Downton Abbey" is a treat. I watch so much other British stuff too.

I encourage you to stick with "Breaking Bad", it will pay off immensely. The scriptwriters are brilliant. I guess the thing that is tricky are the Americanisms of certain shows. Not sure what gets lost in translation with you Euros and Aussies. I mean it is not like Aussies speak English, you know:lol:

Last couple of seasons of "Dexter" were not its best, since the great Trinity season, but good enough to keep me glued. This season is stacking up to be a good one, especially considering the...um...new development that I will not spoil. Dexter is announced to end in 2 seasons, including this one, so everything is setup for the grand finale next year, which should make things interesting.

Again, "Homeland" is a much watch, as is "Walking Dead"...a zombie show with heart. Also, if yall ever get the chance, check out a show called "Justified".

'Yes' to losing population while running maximum specialists (that is, every citizen's a specialist with the only worked tile being the city centre). We'll lose one population point per turn. Stop when we can get the Great Person on the next turn, and re-build the population, which should be easy enough.

Re. K-Mod, I agree that the difficulty seemed to be the early game conflicts (with the AIs' 'Noble level type' unit production rates), in spite of the reluctance of the 'low religious weight' AIs to take up a faith. I wasn't a great fan of the culture model initially, but warmed to it as the game went on ... it really didn't seem to affect us too much. I half-anticipated cultural revolts going off all of the time, but it wasn't an issue.

Re. Homeland: The second season started a few weeks ago here, but I've been overseas. I'll watch the first few episodes on-line. I liked the first season, but again an issue with Mrs. Cam who didn't like Claire Danes' character, so again I have to watch it alone.

Re. Smash: Mrs. Cam gets to watch that one alone.

Re. Breaking Bad: I'll see how I go. As before, it didn't 'yank my chain'.

Re. Ashes to Ashes: There's some over-acting (quite a lot at times), and some of the episode plots are a bit thin, but the final two episodes of Season 3 are just great. Someone once wrote that "Life on Mars was a great show with a so-so end, while Ashes to Ashes was a so-so show with a great end." I don't disagree too much with that, although I did clearly like Ashes to Ashes a lot more than this comment would infer.

Re. Downton Abbey: Don't tell anyone, but I watch it too.

Re. Spooks: For me, it wasn't the same after Tom and Zoe left.

Re. Dexter: Thanks for the 'heads up' - I wasn't aware of the planning of future seasons. They left the last one 'on a knife edge'.

Re: Justified and Walking Dead ... will do.

Re: XCOM game ... haven't played, sorry.

Not sure what gets lost in translation with you Euros and Aussies. I mean it is not like Aussies speak English, you know:lol:

That coming from a Septic just makes me as mad as a cut snake! Completely troppo! I'll go off my block - fair dinkem! Strewth mate, I'm as cross as a frog in a sock ... etc. etc. etc.

(It had to be done).

^^^ No clue what that all means

Looks like "Downton" is finally something Mr. and Mrs. Cam can watch together. Too bad, Claire Danes is fantastic.

We are basically at end game here on this SG. Just keep the pressure on Zara and we should finish nicely

finished the game!

I teched riffling in 3 turns,
upgraded units in 2 turns
Then it was the big turn:
Lauch 2 golden age (yes we did get a great artist) for juicy 24 turns of GA :) and declared zara.

take 2 closest zara cities in 3 turns.
The turn i was about to get the last one, zara capitulate to nappy.
I was massing troops against nappy for after zarra death, so it took only 2 seconds before i declared to nappy.
3 turns after, we had took him 2 cities (he had massive troops near our borders because of his previous war against zara, that delayed me) including huricane and then, the big blue spot became yellow and we passed the threashold of 64 % lands (was 60% before declared to nappy)

last turn save and pictures are included below.

I could have passed the set when zara capitulated but I knew that was going to be quick. only huricane was realy needed.
It is to be noted that upgraded to cav helped quite a bit :)

get the barbarian city in the process also :)

double post for off topic buisness :)

Xcom is really nice and really well made but too linear in my opinion.
Play it once is enought I think. and do not take that long (20-30 hours I think).

Nice! Good game, fellas!

Thanks astre for finishing it off - well done.

Thanks to Imhotep and Killroyan for their contributions, and congrat's to the rest of us! :D

I'm sensing that the verdict on K-Mod is that the starting game is rather tough, and if it weren't for vranasm's amazing run of luck we might have been playing on a rather 'sticky wicket'! Once the human player rises to a position of dominance, it seemed pretty straight forward to see it out. The fact that we played on Emperor (rather than the usual Immortal) may have distorted this mini-experiment a bit.

Lurker comment

Great game :goodjob: And thanks for the detailed turnset posts :)

End lurker comment
