I think those might be re-skinned krakens (don't know why one looks smaller though). My reasoning- giant floating tentacle monsters, and there is an alien in another screenshot that looks like a re-skinned sea dragon. The lobster things are new though
I really like the primordial one too. I'm really curious what type of differences they'll implement for each biome type.
Perhaps it'll be subtle differences to the standard settings. Some examples could be: Primordial gets slightly less mountains, hills, and craters; Lush gets slightly more forests, Arid gets slightly more desert and less tundra/snow; Frigid the opposite of Arid; and Fungal -- don't know, haha... more miasma and/or more swamps?
I assume all biomes will have the same alien species available, but maybe each also has a unique one/few that is/are very fitting to the biome.

Not sure that would work, given that some of these are already varied on different map types - a glacial map with a frigid biome would be practically unplayable.

The Frigid biome probably has flora and fauna adapted to it that mimic the other biomes, dense populations in the equatorial region and sparse in the polar regions. I don't know how they will handle the water though. Would the whole ocean be ice-locked?

Maybe the ships are like ice skiffs. They ride in the surface of the ice on skis. Oceanic cities just sit on the ice and marine tile improvements have to penetrate the ice like a mine.
Concerning hybrid affinities, if Firaxis is trying to create a greater incentive for such an approach with regard to units, could that also mean there will be a review of non-affinity specific victories? Assuming you're going for relatively peaceful victory, affinities are what you need to succeed, or else beeline for the contact victory requirements.
Patrol boats make me think they're either scout ships or melee ships. Perhaps Firaxis could add a privateer-like vessel in this expansion to enable you to capture enemy ships and also bring back some memories of capturing ships in SMAX. New alien sea units are also good to see.
So far, I'm looking forward to but not limited to:
- more info on political capital and how it works
- Any AI improvements + knowing how to intercept with planes
- Seeing more aircraft-type units, in particular I wish to see a bomber-type unit and an air transport type unit. Maybe add a new building or buff rocket battery defence building that gives each city +1 intercept like a civ 5 fighter or AA ground unit.
- greater use for geothermal, oil and titanium strategic resources.
- any changes to victory conditions especially transcendence victory, and in particular an extension of the game which makes it harder to finish peacefully for quick games as early as t170 or something, and standard games as early as t250.
- a slight buff to the knowledge tree regarding its only health bonus policy. Make it something like +1 health per 4 citizens.
Well... the modders created all imaginable factions, both awesome and ridiculous.. even the pope got his sponsor It will be really hard for the developers to come up with a 100% original idea. But the lore of a second wave of colonists, who had less resources to build their ships so they made them generation ships instead of using cryo-sleep, is quite cool.
- Anglo-Canadian [if Canada isn't part of ARC] or Anglo-Scandinavian [otherwise]
- German-Scandinavian [if Englad unites with Canada] or German-Polish [it CAN into space!]
I don't see any way for Arabia and Iran joining in the next 200 years, so maybe there are two middle east sponsors? I'm not counting north africa, which is "arabized", because they are probably part of African Union. Maybe there is some sort of Turkarabia west [I know Turks are not arabs, but they could join...] and some sort of Pakiranistan east [including all those Uzbeq-Turcomeni-Afghan-etc istans, lol]
Finally OMG I NEED JAPAN WITH SPACE SAMURAIS WITH MONOFILAMENT KATANAS [if you don't get it you never played Cyberpunk 2020]:
