RK-02 Gaia's Stepdaughters

Don't worry too much about the Vagaries of the RNG sometimes it just works out like that. Taking Archers on a hill always requires a few sacrifices....

:goodjob:

I say press on building a few more axes and take his capital. Now if we need 10 turns to build up the stack to take his capital then having sailing as a free tech over that period makes sense and also means he will be less likely to build more archers while we are increasing our axes. Need to look at the save to judge this one...

Ralph

Don't eliminate Elizabeth, she's our only ally. Only refuse Alphabet.
If you're talking about Isabella (don't recall seeing her recently) then refuse it all!

Ralph, I think you can take Mao's other cities (there's one near our capital) while building the 10 or so axes.

EDIT: Loaded the save. That city was gone
Just remember to cancel the Gems tribute when you can.

Forgot to say it will be Wednesday evening at the earliest (up in SGOTM) before I can play, wouldn't normally mention this as it is within the 24 got it then 48 play standards but with the pace :goodjob: we have been galloping through turns didn't want people to get frustrated!!

If somebody is itching to play their set feel free to post a got it and take over the save as I will check here before playing.

Lurker Comments:

Great fun to read; I haven't played SMAC in a bug's age.

Is mining and ripping out the bowels of the planet consistent with Gaian philosophy? (Not that you would stand a chance without it.)

As I recall, Deidre usually got along quite well with the academician; perhaps you should be friendly with Mansa, your local brainiac?

Cosmichail, did you ever get what I sent you? Just want to make sure it got there.

Veritass,

I just got notification from the post office today. Will be picking it up tomorrow am and looking forward to playing. Many thanks Veritass appreciate it.

Great! Just wanted to follow up and make sure it got there.

Veritass

I played SMAC the other day and it felt strange compared to civ4. The graphics are kind of mediocre compared to civ 4 but still a good play. You're right about Deidre and Provost being friendly usually. I have played as Provost and had Deidre be very nasty especially if I had a "planned" economy.

Would like to see a follow up one of that game with new graphics. I also liked in SMAC how you could truly terraform changing the landscape by raising land and using formers to lower your enemies land and destroy their city. What especially I liked the ability to build custom made type vehicles. The antigrav was great for very fast units with deadly weaponry and as terraformers.

Mind Worms and Fungal Towers usually do the trick before Locusts and Antigrav became available...

I mostly only played Academy and Gaians.

Mining? PAH, it's nothing compared to what I make the Gaians do in my games: build thermal boreholes

EDIT: Oh yeah, Mansa = Morgan, thank you.

Hi guys. This is just to let you know that I currently have a problem with my Civ machine. I'm hoping that it won't take more than 24-48hrs to fix, but this is just to let you know to skip me if my turns come up during that time. I'll keep you informed if it looks like taking longer. Sorry.

Ralph should be playing Wednesday night (Scottish time). Cosmichail will be up next. Chances are you'll get that fixed.

Pre Turn

A fairly simple objective, build axes, recon HQ of Miaow’s faction and prepare to enlarge Deirde’s sphere of influence.

As far as Vicky goes a watching brief had been ordered, as long as her demands didn’t become excessive we would accommodate here… leaving her feeling secure and happy until……..

Turn 1 Advance into Mao’s primitive sensor range

Turn 2 640BC, park troop across the river from Mao , he may be daft enough to attack outwards, who knows

Turn 3 610 BC Mao has spawned another outpost which could be useful training for our forces before the final assault.

Unfortunately its location doesn’t accord with Deirdre’s Optimal Terrain Mapping and Planning (aka DOT Map) so it will probably have to be razed)

1dotmap.jpg

Turn 4 580 BC. Shanghai completes Archer onto Workboat

Turn 5 565 BC Worker completes road to Shanghai and starts on Pasture. Ummmm and Ahhh about probably losing 2 axes to take down Nanjing removing this city and getting a couple of Axes Promoted.

Turn 6 550 BC Position troops around Nanjing

Turn 7 535BC Miaow moves an Archer out of the city which is too much temptation for me to resist, take down the Archer that would reinforce the capital and destroy Nanjing (no screenie sorry) at the cost of 1 Axe but gaining promotion to 2 city raider 2 archers out of it.

1tempting.jpg

Turn 8 520 BC Autumn Grove completes workboat and starts on library, with only a few squares worth “working” but decent food it is a prime candidate for working 2 early scientists to get an academy.

Turn 9 505 BC troops positioned out side Beijing, with 3CG Archers probably need 6-9 Axes to take him down (sacrifice 3 weak ones then our City Raider 2 take him down)

Turn 10 Axes Healing we have 6 axes + another due very soon or Mao will offer us Sailing for 10 turns of Peace, next player can decide, no good tech trades available yet

Mao managed to sneak out another settler or two and has some weirdly positioned cities!!

Construction in 6

Excellent job wrecking the Human Hive... and I really laughed at the "dotmap" part

I don't think the new cities will be any much of a threat, since they're probably new and can't build anything worth jack quickly. After we take Mao's capital and his extra city near Gaia's Landing we should probably just grab a tech (even Sailing ) for his last city since that city is deep within Japanese territory anyway.

We probably have a religious war on our hands soon.

Roster:
1. RK (potentially on deck for 15)
2. Furrie
3. Ralph_Jackson
4. Cosmichail (up for 15)
5. Scowler (temp skip)

Start taking 10 turns at 0BC.

EDIT: Spotted some un-improved cows near Shanghai. Autumn Grove could use the extra health.

Ok this is "I got it" and will play/post sometime tomorrow.

Deidre looked at the tactical situation at Beijing and knew that the warriors needed siege weapons to take the city. It would take probably 8-10 warriors to take the city with siege and we didn’t have close to that yet. Other warriors were on the way but even so the odds for the best warrior was a mere 7.3% so siege was definitely needed.

Turn 1-2

Moving axes to Beijing for battle

Turn 3

Take out archer
loose axe to archer
Whip axe in Gaia’s landing 1 unhappy.

It become apparent to Deidre that Yang was pumping out archers quite fast at Beijing and engaging our warriors slowing us down. The warriors moved to the mines to stop them from being worked which slowed it down a bit but still producing archers fast and being an inconvenience.

Turn 4

Archer attacks axes at Beijing and looses

Turn 5

Discover construction start sailing.

(picture didn’t get saved for some reason)

Turn 6

Take out another archer leaving Beijing
We have cats now so wait for them as odds are no good and not enough axes to take city.

Turn 7

Move a more axes to Beijing
Whip catapult

Turn 8

Discover sailing start priesthood (for temples)

Civ4ScreenShot0525.jpg

Turn 9

Discover Priest hood start monotheism for Organized religion

Civ4ScreenShot0526.jpg

Turn 10

Take out archer
Mao keeps sending out archer after archer slowing us down.

Turn 11 thru Turn 15

Consisted mainly of taking out archers and getting more catapults there. The defenses at Beijing are down to 5% but I would wait for the other cats and use them to soften up the defenders for the axes. We will have to waste the cats and a couple of attackers but hopefully the RNG will be in our favor.

We also discover monotheism and start literature for the heroic epic and great library if that is in the gameplan.

Saved game

Turn 0:
Queue a Library at Gaia's Landing
Reason: Great Library

Turn 1:
Move all relevant troops to Beijing's doorstep

Turn 2:
What, Mao gets a fifth archer! :( Now I am sweating.
Waiting for Catapult from back to get to front line.

Turn 5:
Two archers who are apparently suffering from low morale, leave town!

rk251yd4.jpg

***BEIJING***
Catapult dies to Archer
Catapult withdraws from Archer
Axeman defeats Archer
Axeman defeats Archer
Axeman defeats Archer

Gaia has favored us today; we only lost 1 catapult.

rk252hr8.jpg

***OUTSIDE BEIJING***
Axeman defeats Archer
Axeman defeats Archer

Excellent, Beijing has The Great Lighthouse. We also have Marble nearby to help our Great Library.

I spot a backstabbing archer near the gems at Gaia's Landing. We stand to lose the gems, so I attempt to intercept by moving our warrior from the capital and temporarily replacing it with the warrior from Autumn Grove.

Turn 6:
Consolidate troops in Beijing to heal in 4 turns.

Turn 7:
Gaia's Landing: Axeman -> Library
Warrior fortifies on gem hill. Don't worry, if he dies, there's an Axe waiting. I don't want to spend money yet.

Turn 8:
Research: Literature -> Code of Laws (may be a :smoke:, I don't know)
Archers retreat! We fortify axe and warrior on Gem hill.

Turn 9:
Shanghai: Lighthouse -> Catapult
Autumn Grove: Archer -> WORKER!!

Turn 11:
Hinduism has spread to Djenne, one of Mansa's towns.
Leave an Axe in Beijing, march towards a nearby Hive city.
Mansa seems to have founded a city near the city we razed. Oh well. So much for the D.O.T.M.A.P. we'll get him later.

rk253vd5.jpg

Turn 12:
Beijing starts Archer
Now at 100% science for -13gpt.

Turn 13:
Show up at Chengdu.

Turn 14:
***CHENGDU***
Axeman defeats Archer
Axeman defeats Archer
Get 97 gold and raze it.
Demand Calendar for peace!

rk255fg7.jpg

Turn 15:
Start trek back to Beijing and END TURN!

rk256oi5.jpg

Excellent, we have one free tech and the Human Hive/Mao is down to one last bastion. I razed Chengdu because of the dotmap. We may build a settler to replace it soon. Meanwhile, Gaia's Landing is working on a Library which is a prerequisite to build the Great Library.

THE SAVE:

3. Ralph_Jackson (on deck for 15)

Yeah, I DID say "start taking 10 turns at 0BC", but our empire's quite small, so let's just do 15 to finish this rotation.

I'm very sorry but i'll need a skip, i'm going home this weekend and have no acces to Civ IV not internet.
I can't play now either.
I'm really sorry guys.

Ralph is up then for 15 :)
