RK-02 Gaia's Stepdaughters

well, I go home every 2/3 weeks in the weekend, and then I need a skip, but i'll always mention it.
I'm very sorry because I really wanted to play :)
I'll be back sunday-night.

Furrie, if you can play Sunday night then take it as I wont get to it before then, if not let me know and we can swap.

Pre turn Decide to whip in Library at Gaia’s Landing as it is set up for a nice 2 point whip and has 1 unhappy face already

Turn 1 Capital starts on Great library, will get marble bonus in a couple of turns when border pops (this shows I made potentially :smoke: decision as if I had waited for this the Marble bonus would apply to the whip over flow but so be it).

It is clear that Mao had aligned with Tokugawa in some alliance as his workers are detected building a road in his territory.

2morganalliance.jpg

It was now clear to Sky that the Morganite faction had grown to include these two and was a threat to be dealt with, especially with Morgan nowclearing blessed forest in his territory, time to build an Army to deal with this threat….

Turn 2 Shanghai goes on to a settler build to claim the Iron in accordance with D.O.T.M.A.P as Deirdre’s scientific advisors had concluded that iron would make our future conquests easier (Skirmishers on a hill make a mess of axemen!!)

Turn 3 Beijing to Barracks for future Military production

Turn 4 Deirdre decreed that a little use of the whip was required in Beijing to deal with the unhappy citizens who were still unhappy and whining about wanting to rejoin the Morganite alliance

Turn 5 Code of Laws come in, now Deirdre always liked things to be well organised so pushes on towards Civil Service.

Turn 6 Troops being positioned ready to tackle the Morganites

Turn 7 Now I like Elizabeth but this is a deal I can turn dwong
2vickydeal.jpg

Turn 8-9 The sugar east of our capital that doesn’t require cutting down a forest is now being hooked up as we need the happiness

Turn 10 Leave the save at a critical point Tokugawa is trying to settle and I suspect claim our Iron, this means we need to push the :hammer: button a wee bit earlier than planned, I could have done but decide to leave to the next player, as we have an unmoved Axe an next door shouldn’t be a problem…
2toku.jpg

Settler due in 2 ready to hook up Iron and take it to the Morganites, demographically we are fine..

2demog.jpg

Well, depends on how much army we have at the moment. We were on builder mode before the rogue settlers arrived, so I don't expect a huge army on our side but a huge army on Toku's side. I personally don't think Toku will ask the Mali/Morganites for help anyway, considering his personality...

Excellent. We may try turning Liz on Mansa to distract him as well.

Roster:
1. RK (potentially on the pod bay for 10)
2. Furrie
3. Ralph_Jackson (just stopped some Drone Riots)
4. Cosmichail (up for 15, perhaps to pronounce Vendetta?)
5. Scowler (hasn't radioed in from the other end of the Monsoon Jungle) (potentially on the pod bay for 10)

Blame sunspot activity... :mischief:
I stopped to investigate a monolith and now everything is back to full working order.

I am always up for vendetta's and war considering my favourite is a dark character. Let the blood spill.

I am pooped out from Gotm wreaking havoc so I will get to this tomorrow morning. So this is "I got it"

Gaia’s stepdaughters….

After some contemplation Deidre recognizes that our rival Yang sympathizer Toku is about to take the precious metal that we need. Rather than loose it and looking to what cities Toku has visible it appears that he really isn’t that strong. The archer and settler near our axe and it is then that Deidre decides to attack and take it out and speed up our settler as Mansa is approaching also with a settler for the site and already has the metal.

Just by one turn does our settler manage to settle and start a new city which we named appropriately “Chiron”. During this session I also renamed two of cities to better suit our theme. Beijing is now known as “Memory of Earth” and Shanghai is now known as “Mindword Pass”. The Mindword pass is well suited since there is wild jungle nearby and animals to frequent the area.

In order to deal with happiness issues and immediately get iron Chiron was settled on the plains hill to capture both right away. Once we finish with the iron we can hook up Incense and make our people happier.

Our friend and companion came to us with this offer and of course accepted:

Civ4ScreenShot0556.jpg

We are now able to build our UU war chariots and have built a few of them. Gaia’s Landing looks like it will be a great GP farm for us once we get happiness up somewhat. We should think about metal casting too get forges too soon and also help with happiness.

The war with Toku has been for the most part a “phony war” only to make sure we got the iron and decide to make peace for now. We are now accumulating somewhat of an army near Memory of Earth and should be able to attack MM if we wish. Nice thing is Toku cannot declare on us for the next 8 turns or so.

Did try to make tech trades with Lizzy but all she will trade is meditation which we do need. Although I don’t think trading COL for it is worth it. Once we get Civil service the other tech I think we really need soon too is Monarchy.

Und here is de save:

EDIT: I did name it "Mindworm Pass" not Mindword Pass which is a typo.

That makes Scowler up...........................

Right, I guess I'll be playing tonight then... :)

Great, super, excellent! Finally we have horses. Stupid planet. *looks around if mind worms are behind him eavesdropping*

Good call on killing off the settler. I'm surprised a Monarch AI sued for peace for free without us having to take a single city.

A slight panic when the save refused to load because of modified assets ... but this was solved by switching clouds back on in global view with CivScale :crazyeye:

And off we go...

365 AD: We are now officially Mansa Morgan's worst enemy, so no chance of getting Currency or anything else out of him for the moment.

civilization42006092702431379yf5.jpg

Self-righteous old fart...

395 AD: Civil Service -> Monarchy

410 AD: Taoism has been founded in a far away land! Is Sister Miriam up to no good?

440 AD: No! It is our so-called "ally" Elizabeth who has converted to this strange new creed! And she has the gall to criticise us for our beliefs...

470 AD: We decide to take advantage of deal put forward by the untrustworthy Morgan. As we lack Currency we cannot initiate such a deal ourselves, but we shall have the last laugh as our Secret Project (which Morgan would no doubt covet) is almost finished...

civilization42006092703250490kc2.jpg

Morgan looks down his nose at us

485 AD: Our Secret Project, The Planetary Datalinks, is finally complete...

civilization42006092703324700lv8.jpg

I don't know but I've been told,
Deirdre's got a Network Node.
Likes to press the on-off switch,
Dig that crazy Gaian witch!

~ Spartan Barracks March

500 AD: We can no longer tolerate the advance of our neighbour, Morgan, and his appalling treatment of the innocent and precious vegetation around his bases. Our forces are in position; it is time to pronounce Vendetta upon this menace, taking an unprotected enemy former in the process...

civilization42006092703441692pb6.jpg

civilization42006092703464803vu8.jpg

515 AD: Our improved Network Nodes have yielded the secrets of Monarchy. This has proved beneficial to our negotiations with our erstwhile ally, Elizabeth. We have gained her knowledge of Currency in exchange for Monarchy and Literature. Unfortunately, she took the opportunity to complain of the attack on her "friend", Morgan. I fear she is being increasingly tempted by his materialistic ways.

In other news, we succeeded in taking the Morganite base, Walata. There was little to be gained from keeping it, and the Lady Deirdre ordered it razed so that the land there may eventually recover from its shameful exploitation. Our thoughts and gratitude go out to those brave soldiers who gave their lives for the planet, including a CRIII axeman whom our analysts believed to have a 94% chance of victory...

530 AD: We have learned that what remains of the Human Hive has been hoarding its resources. We therefore demanded the 70 credits that they had amassed. The Chairman had no choice but to agree; it is only right and proper that the profits from their "social engineering" should be redirected towards our crusade on behalf of the planet.

civilization42006092704044534rk7.jpg

545 AD: We attack and capture Djenne! We suffer no losses; in fact, we are able to liberate a former. The nearby forests have suffered under Morgan, but the resources that he has uncovered can now be used without harming the land. Once the population has been fully assimilated and re-educated the base can be renamed something more appropriate.

civilization42006092704092109ck7.jpg

560 AD: Treacherous Elizabeth has cancelled the deal providing us with horses! She is now Ambivalent towards us, thanks to her peculiar spiritual beliefs and her Morganite sympathies...

575 AD: One of Morgan's chariots was able to pillage a plantation near Gaia's landing. The enemy unit has now been obliterated.

Addendum: please note that our social engineers have recently made the following changes to our lifestyle: Bureaucracy and Hereditary Rule. Our scientists are currently researching Metal Casting.

Datalinks

While you were successful in taking a city and there were no losses, your declaration of vendetta was rather pre-emptive. In the future, please run such a drastic move through the Gaian council (other players) first.

Now, I suppose we want to build the Weather Paradigm (Hagia Sophia) soon, eh?

Flooding the English with Polytheistic believers seems to be a good move at the moment.

I don't think we will need to renew the horses deal anyway since wemay be able to take some from Mansa/Morgan.

My turn, so I'll pick-up in six hours.

I'm sorry; I got the impression that this was our intended course of action:

We are now accumulating somewhat of an army near Memory of Earth and should be able to attack MM if we wish.

In my defense, he had already stated that "We will never trade with you, our worst enemy!", and looked like he might be gearing up to go to war with us. I just wanted him hamstrung before he got his hands on cats or some other advanced weapons tech. But yes, I could have stopped after 10 turns and waited for a consensus...

And yes, once the borders of Djenne expand we will have our own supply of horses. And we probably ought to build some spearmen as Toku has horse archers of his own.

Oh I see. You have a point then. Cosmichail implicitly agreed to the war, which is fine anyway!

Playing now.

Moeha, I finally managed to get on the forums (have been pretty buzy)
we seem to be going very good :)
Good luck on your turns Robo

Turn 0:
I just realized that Liz founded Taoism. There seems to be no turning back to Polytheism then. Must there always be war? Is war our destiny? Can't we all be friends? Ask them why the ship blew up, and they'll blame us... or anyone else.

I didn't realize we had this many loyal soldiers... it seems so sudden. As if they just popped out of cloning vats. Colonel Santiago would be proud... if only she were here.

Initially I was confused as to what cities we were referring to, but then I remembered that, (in another lifetime) leaders were fond of renaming captured cities! I would do the same, except that I have forgotten the appropriate city names... so I'm glad the other members of the Gaian Council were helping rename cities.

Anyway, an enemy Chariot was approaching Chiron, so I move the Axes out of the way.
(:smoke: WHOOPS, forgot this was Vanilla and Chariots have no vs. Axeman bonus)

END TURN!

Turn 1:
Chariot approaches Chiron but made a fatal mistake of climbing up a hill. The horse was afraid to get off and becomes processed fresh meat. The rider meets the same fate.

During the interim, Djenne was attacked by a Morganite Axeman and Chariot. The enemy Axeman fell but the Chariot fled to a hill which was protected by a Morganite skirmisher.

Construction begins on a road from Djenne to Gaia's Landing.

Turn 2:
Elizabeth demands us to disclose our knowledge of Civil Service, threatening UN sanctions. I'm sorry, but those secrets are confidential, so I encouraged her make good on those "UN sanctions".

During the interim, Djenne was attacked by a group of Skirmishers, who were promptly impaled by our War Chariots.

Turn 3:
Elizabeth (YOU AGAIN!?) offers the unacceptable trade of silk for copper.

Gaia's Landing: Swordsman -> Market
Memory of Earth: Axeman -> Courthouse

Memory of Earth was suffering from Drone Riots, but what can we do?

Weakened enemy Chariot on a hill was eliminated by our own War Chariot. Djenne is safe, for now.

Turn 4:
Chiron: Swordsman -> Catapult
Djenne: -> Archer

Drone Riots at Gaia's Landing. However, a sugar plantation is under construction; it will finish in five turns.

In the interim, a Horse Archer has eliminated a War Chariot. Swift justice was dealt in the next turn.

Turn 5:
Djenne was starving from Drone Riots. Deirdre authorized whipping three units of citizens for an immediate Catapult.

Our forces advance towards the... lightly defended Morganite capital of Timbuktu...

rk261kk4.jpg

Turn 6:
Morganite Horse Archer appears.
Begin bombardment of Timbuktu.
Seeing as Morganite Horse Archers were a big problem, I have decided to temporarily cut off their supply.

Turn 7:
Research: Metal Casting -> Machinery, I presume, for maces?
Djenne: Archer -> Catapult

Horse Archer approaches Djenne, don't we have any Spearmen?

IBT: Swordsman dies to Horse Archer, a War Chariot soon captures and executes the murderers.

Turn 8:
We have received word, that a secret project, "The Merchant Exchange" (Colossus) has been built in a faraway land.

Our forces converge on Timbuktu. There is no further resistance.

Turn 9:
Mindworm Pass: Granary -> Courthouse

All of the fortifications in Timbuktu have been reduced to a smoldering heap. With Timbuktu surrounded, the attack will commence next turn!

Turn 10:
Autumn Grove: Catapult -> Market

rk262mf7.jpg

Our forces prepare for the assault on Timbuktu...
Catapult withdraws from Skirmisher
Catapult withdraws from Skirmisher... again! :D
Catapult is destroyed by Skirmisher
Swordsman defeats Skirmisher
Catapult defeats Skirmisher
Axeman defeats Spearman

rk264cs6.jpg

The Morganites never stood a chance.

Let's see... since we are losing money from the campaign against the Morganites, perhaps we might be able to sue for peace. I haven't done that yet, so Furrie may try to extort a tech from Mansa. And if peace if boring, no fret, you may finish off the Chinese.
:ar15:

In addition, we have two extra Axemen near the English border "just in case" their "UN sanctions" are on the way.

rk265hh8.jpg

I don't think we should build any more troops. We already have a HORDE and any more would not only be overkill, it... er, would divert money from the our efforts of environmental conservation.
