RK-08: Atomic Betty

So yeah, I played it..and built another Wonder...actually I built two...("The Engineer...it was crying out to me...") I promise though, I'm done with those (for now) :p

I'll upload the save and a more detailed report later, but the basic point is that I did the following, not neccsairly in the order listed...

Traded for Calender, got Silk on line, lightbulbed Theology, chopped forests grown on Silk, built the National Epic, switched first turn to Currency, then built the Great Libiary, then switched to Paper, used the overflow cash from not building the Libary in London (was useful after all) to push research up to 80%, finished Paper, built Sankore, switched back to Currency, tried to build Confu religious buidlings everywhere, connected Furs and Horses, started building a Navy and Army, saw ALL our neighbours follow YHWH, saw that YHWH's home was "across the pond" in Greek Territory and guarded by an archer, and I saw Ragnar's settlers kindly building our future empire...then on the 7th day I rested.

So yeah, now we're getting techs every 4 turns...

Or...I may just upload the save, as that looks prety detailed. Go Frankcor! Let's go get 'em!

vra, good work on the infrastructure. We are a researching machine!

Inherited Turn 142/460 (640 AD)
We need an army and a navy if we want to go after the Jewish holy city across the pond. My goal is to build boats, grunts and rock throwers and start getting them into position to invade Greece. They are the logical target because of their Holy City and their low position in the score table -- I never like to pick on someone my own size.
London finishes: Swordsman <-- I sent him north to get some experience points.

Turn 143/460 (660 AD)
London begins: Axeman (2 turns)
Tech learned: Currency
Hastings finishes: Confucian Monastery
Canterbury finishes: Confucian Temple

IBT:
State Religion Change: Frederick(Germany) from 'Judaism' to 'Taoism'
Attitude Change: Alexander(Greece) towards Frederick(Germany), from 'Cautious' to 'Annoyed'
Attitude Change: Frederick(Germany) towards Alexander(Greece), from 'Cautious' to 'Annoyed'

Turn 144/460 (680 AD)
Research begun: Construction (3 Turns)
Hastings begins: Confucian Missionary (4 turns)
Canterbury begins: Galley (13 turns)
London finishes: Axeman <-- I sent him to the west coast to wait for a boat.
York finishes: Confucian Temple

IBT:

Well, allright! I'll take Mediocre and be happy.

Turn 145/460 (700 AD)
London begins: Swordsman (2 turns)
York begins: Galley (6 turns)

Turn 146/460 (720 AD)
Tech learned: Construction
London finishes: Swordsman <-- He went north too.

Turn 147/460 (740 AD)
Research begun: Metal Casting (5 Turns)
London begins: Catapult (2 turns)
While attacking in English territory near York, 1st Swordsman of London (Swordsman) defeats (5.10/6): Barbarian Archer (Prob Victory: 95.5%)
Shankara (Prophet) (Great Prophet) born in Nottingham <-- He can give 1070 :science: if we lightbulb him for Divine RIght. I never seem to know a good reason to research Divine Right. So I sent him to York where he would join the city next turn.

Hastings finishes: Confucian Missionary

Turn 148/460 (760 AD)
Hastings begins: Galley (5 turns)
London finishes: Axeman
York finishes: Galley
Canterbury grows: 4

oops, I lost some log. I know Alex demanded we stop trading with Germany. I failed to see the humor in his joke.

Turn 150/460 (800 AD)
London begins: Catapult (2 turns)
York begins: Trireme (5 turns)
1st Chariot of London (Chariot) promoted: Combat I
1st Swordsman of London (Swordsman) promoted: City Raider I
1st Swordsman of London (Swordsman) promoted: City Raider II

IBT:
Contact made: Korean Empire
atomic12.jpg

Well, that's the first time I've ever made contact because an AI caught one of my religions. That little white dot in the map at the lower right is Korea. I exchanged Open Borders agreements with him.

Confucianism has spread: Pusan (Korean Empire)
Attitude Change: Alexander(Greece) towards Wang Kon(Korea), from 'Annoyed' to 'Cautious'
Civics Change: Wang Kon(Korea) from 'Slavery' to 'Caste System'
Civics Change: Frederick(Germany) from 'Paganism' to 'Pacifism'

Turn 151/460 (820 AD)
While attacking in Barbarian territory at Mauryan, 1st Swordsman of London (Swordsman) defeats (3.30/6): Barbarian Archer (Prob Victory: 95.5%)
2nd Swordsman of London (Swordsman) promoted: City Raider I
Tech learned: Metal Casting
London finishes: Catapult

IBT:
Christianity has spread: P'yongyang (Korean Empire)
State Religion Change: Wang Kon(Korea) from 'no State Religion' to 'Confucianism'
Attitude Change: Alexander(Greece) towards Wang Kon(Korea), from 'Cautious' to 'Annoyed'

Turn 152/460 (840 AD)
Research begun: Compass (2 Turns) <-- if we're going to fight intercontinental wars, the Circumnavigation bonus will come in very handy. We need to get to Optics soon.
London begins: Forge (4 turns)
While attacking in Barbarian territory at Mauryan, 2nd Swordsman of London (Swordsman) defeats (3.12/6): Barbarian Archer (Prob Victory: 85.7%)
Captured Mauryan (Barbarian) I kept the city. It has enough food to work a beaver camp. It will slow our research down in the short term but it'll pay for itself when it comes out of revolt. (I hope)
Mauryan begins: Work Boat (30 turns)

That's 10 turns. We have the start of a navy and army. The first galley load is headed west to scout. Alexander won't give us an Open Borders agreement yet. I've also sent a Confucian Missionary to learn more about the layout of Greece.

Here's The Save: Atomic_Betty_AD-0840.CivWarlordsSave

I'm going to plead the case that we need to go after the three cities Ragnar has on our southern border NOW. It has dyes, it has horses, it has banana. And it will have iron shortly, and has Pigs. A couple of amazing production cities. We can invade Greece after they build us a shrine...and I really like those spots to the south..we can even fit an extra city in there, SE of London, and make another good production center. We only really have one so far...

As for why now. One city of the three already has a Dun. I'd rather not let them get a few more. A quick strike would take those cities, add to our empire, and make getting to Alex not dependant on Ragnar's mood, which is fickle at best, and since we are Confu, I doubt it'll get better.

I think that vra is right - we should take those 3 or 4 cities just south of us from Ragnar. They have longbows so we will need to take some heavy hitters with us.

Robo - I like your leader picker - was that an update from the vanilla one that someone did? Do you mind if I dl a copy?
I don't mind. It wasn't mine to begin with anyway. :D

Hey, it's my turn already? Great! I'll play in 12 hours when I wake up after I do RK-07.

They have LONGBOWS?! Oi..since when did Raggy get those? You'll be needing catapults then...yeah, lets go get them before they build anymoe defences.

And WOW: Three turns in less that 40 hours - this is great =)

Wow. You're fast, guys!

I know every post I make I complain about vra's wonders... But I'll do it again. I know we are a research machine, but we are not a war machine yet. It will be tough now that Ragnar has longbows to get him wihout maces. Catapults will be useful but he has a Dun already. We will need trebs. And we will have to war constantly now to get our continent before modern era. That 5th civ in our continent gets things even harder.

And look what's worse: after Robo builds the force, a NEWBIE will lead the war! It isn't that Sith game, but.. may the force be with us...

Actually, we're not in as much trouble as I stated...yes, he has longbows. But...(I knew there was something bothering me) these aren't the Celts - they don't get Duns.

We are a researching machine, and what that allows us to do is out tech them and cursh them with superior weaponry. That said, even I think its time to go on the offensive. He only has three longbows down there, so, we should be able to take him quickly.

Oh, man! That's what it takes for a critique without checking the documentation. Well, being at work has ONE advantage after all...
Well, it's not a Dun, but that's a wall. 4 accuracy cats won't do the job either...
I need some new war tactics...
And vra... At last we agreed on something! ;)

I agree we should take out Ragnar now. I was only following through with what vra had stated about the Jewish Holy City. Even as the troops set sail for Greece, I was thinking we already had two holy cities.

Don't land in Greece -- let's go kill the vikings.

I don't think Korea is on our continent. We met because he converted to Confucianism -- no physical contact yet.

Ok vra... just build less wonders.
And FB, you don't have to attack on your turn, you can always build more army.
Merry Christmas! :D

Looking at the save, we don't seem to need any "help" or wonders at the moment. We are in a good postion. Playing now.

I don't know how many turns I played, but here's a short explanation.

Let's see.
1. Navigated the missionary over to Wang (wow, there are 5 of us here therefore 3 enemies offshore) and spread Confucianism.
2. We don't need any more wonders so far (Taj Mahal maybe but that's quite far away) so I used the Great Engineer to lightbulb Machinery for an immediate military advantage. I didn't research Feudalism, please ignore the research bar in the screenshot.

3. After Compass, I researched Civil Service. After that, Printing Press to improve our commerce output. Revolted to Bureaucracy.
4. Built a Market and Monastery in Capital in preparation for Bureaucracy.
5. In all other cities, I built an army. See the screenshot, it explains it all.

Since the whole army and navy is in one place, the next player has three options:
1. load maces and cats on ship, and attack Alex
2. attack Ragnar
3. build more army

Everyone seems to be leaning towards #2. Do it soon. Our capital can pump out 1 Mace per turn.

Optional:
I didn't do this trade but we could get Alexander off our backs when we attack Ragnar. He can attack Fred with the following trade:

Well done Robo - On a side note, that sounds like a deal worth taking, only if to exhaust all three in a quagmire while we blast Raggy's three cities to the south.

So yeah fbelintani, we have agreed on somehing...truly Christmas it is =) ...*Charrggggge*

What! Why didn't you build any wonders? :D Looking good, looking good.

The only wonder available right now is Sistine, and that isn't exactly the most useful wonder so far. Engineering will provide Hagia Sophia for more Engineers but we will probably get another GE when it comes.

Hey that reminds me, we don't have any Academy in capital yet. But seeing as the Great Library city will produce one Scientist soon...

Also, Manhattan Project can't be rushed by a GE I think. But we can rush the helpful UN...

Ok, guys. I know I'm up now, but I won't be able to play until Tuesday. You know, we eventually need a Christmas break, don't we?
So, Ruff_hi, if you have the time to spare, go and play! I can swap with you if you want!
So, everyone: Merry Christmas!!!:xmascheers:

I don't think that I can get to this game in the next two days - I'll post a 'got it' if I can.
