Rnes9: Run for President Too.

Orders sent

Gunshootin Sam Yeager is on the campaign trail once again this week visiting numerous states and ensuring the righful message of mandatory gun ownership is brought to all American citizens. When asked about this policy he stated 'You never know when the American citizen will need to defend his home from an attack. America is not the nation we once were, we must regain our strength and regain our dignity. Once in power we shall ensure that partisan politics is put to an end and that the United States shall live up to their name and become truly United once more.'

tossi has quit. sent me a PM with something about too much math in the game.......
ok. guess its the adding up to 40 thing that's scared him off.......

still missing orders from 2 people, will send them PMs now to see if they can send em.

update today (lets say about 2:30 ish (about 4.5 hours from now)) regardless of wheather i get those orders or not.

So where is that update?

sorry all, i'll have to do the update at home. so postponing a few more hours.

it turns out that for fundraising, my spreadsheet can come out to negative sums if a person is losing support instead of gaining it in the state where they fundraise. that shouldnt happen (its unlikely a candidate will lose money for a fundraiser, no matter how crapy his popularity is doing).
gotta figure out how to fix that in the spreadsheet, which will take longer then i have time left here at work.

Highlights
Most money raised in a state:
William Rainer (stalin006) spent just 5 hours at a fundraiser in his homestate of California and raised a grand total of 750 thousand dollars for his campaign. An audit by an independent accountant (hired by other candidates to find the hidden crime) found that every hour Mr. Rainer's spent campaigning, he convinced his supporters to donate about 150suporters to donate a thousand dollars. It is interesting to note, that while Mr Rainer was fundraising, his support in the state was actualy being eroded by Issac Corel (North King).

Most support gained in a state:
William Rainer having spent most of the week in the state of Texas has swiped the state right out from under 'Gunshooin' Sam Yeager's nose. Mr Yeager now holds a distant second place in the polls conducted in the state.

Most support gained nationwide:
National polls show that Louisa Mitchell (Cuivienen) actualy gained the most popularity in the nation during the week. Ms. Mitchell spread her time between 9 different states, and was uncontested in many of them. She now also holds second place in both the electoral vote counts (behind William Rainer) and in the popular votes (behind Randy McPharkin).

Most efficient campaign spending:
'Gunshooin' Sam Yeager spent a small amount of money on a few TV adds in his homestate of Texas this week, and it turned out to be the most productive money spent in the presidential race yet. The few commercials prevented William Rainer from convincing every single voter in the state to forget Mr Yeager. Mr Rainer spent 4 days in Texas and by all accounts Mr. Yeager's absense from the state should have lost him all support, but the TV ads reminded Texans who they suported, and Mr. Rainer constantly met voters who refused to accept him as their candidate.

George Washington II seems to be losing faith in him self. Though he repeated his campaign trail from last week, it was clear that either his heart was not the race for president, or he just had other things on his mind. (blackheart didnt send orders)

Randy McPharkin's grip of the southeast continues its unstoppable growth. The Southern Secconist Party is gaining ground in its core states, and adding new states to its list of supporters every day. It is feared by some that if Mr McPharkin wins the presidency he will go through with the seperation and leave the north without a president.

Cuivienen is uber rich O_O
that was true last update.... ;)

i've edited in another Highligh, the one entitles "Most efficient campaign spending". read it. the underlying game mechanics is that if you have votes in a state, but you are not spending time (or money) there in a turn, it is better to spend even a token amount of cash tehre to "protect" your votes (or a single hour, if you think there wont be more then 2 people "attacking" the state).

if another candidate spends the time or money in the state that would "take" your votes, it will take twice as much effort on their part if you are gaining even 1 vote in the state as apposed to 0. if your supporters feel that you have basicaly given up on them, they'll switch sides twice as easy as compared to if they know that you're still courting them (even just a little).

so.... protect your holdings.... even if just a little.

Can we get popular vote counts? It's kinda hard to gauge where I am with such scattered support.

For quick reference:

Stalin: red
North King: orange
Cuivienen: blue
Sheep: green
MjM: grey
blackheart: teal
tossi: purple <-not listed in the last stats... kinda curious.

in the update the vote list of "state" votes is the popular votes (maybe i should word it as "in state" votes. the national votes are just a total off the map.

as for tossi, yes he quit, but i didnt take his votes off the spreadsheet. i figure it wont take long for people to take those votes from him since he's not campaigning any more, but didnt want to just dump them back into the undecided pool.

oh, i see.
i've though about posting those, i did in Rnes8, the previous incarnation of this game, the thing is that those who understand how to use those numbers (or bother to read them all) do much better then those who either cant or dont bother to understand. it sort of unbalanced the last game.
so i decided not to post it to this one for now.
but if you want em, i guess i could post them.
maybe i'll do just the most contested states or something. give me till tomorow to do it though. i gotta get to sleep now, and making another sheet in my spreadsheet for pulling that info out of the main one will take too long now

here's a list of states which have more then one candidate vying for their votes. the rest of the states have only one candidate that they'd currently even consider voting for (the one winning the state on the map, though in some cases even the winner's support is very small)
Code:
state code	Elecvotes
Alabama AL	9
Arizona AZ	10
California CA	55
D.C. DC	3
Florida FL	27
Georgia GA	15
Idaho ID	4
Kentucky KY	8
Michigan MI	17
Mississippi MS	6
Oregon OR	7
Tennessee TN	11
Texas TX	34
Wisconsin WI	10
Illinois IL	21
Nevada NV	5
these are states where the winning candidate has as of now convinced every voter in the state to vote for him/her:
New Hampshire
New York
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
Vermont

and these are the rest of the states where every voter has been convinced to vote, but not all for the same candidate:
Alabama
California
Florida
Georgia
Michigan
Tennessee
Texas
Illinois
