Role Play Challenge: Fickle Isabella and her quest for the 7 Holy Grails!

^Uh... did you not see the update? He beelined to IW and found no iron, including in Shaka's land.

Archer rush Shaka. Now that would be a cool sight. :) :) :)

I am locked into a small continent with Shaka having NO metals and the best suggestion is an archer/cat attack. :suicide:

If Shaka is also without metal, then the situation is not that bad, but be sure to be first to cat, even if it is for defence only.

Checking for horse is now a top priority

edited after seeing he map : Iron on the toundra in the south, might be a good idea to get a city there before Shaka (also should check all the reachable land / islands)

Shaka has access to that southern iron. HE simply does not have the tech yet, plus he may in fatc have horses.

I think a desperate situation here, so I think I will tech AH first and send a workboat off exploring the islands. I will swap to sailing if I find metal offshore. As suggested, I can at least get an off-shore city built as a haven and think about the religion thing once I am alive.

One point noone has mentioned yet which is my giggest concern. I have warriors while Agressive Shaka has archers. I have seen AIs successfully use an archer rush before on me! At this point though, I don't think I can get hunting/archery teched and enough archers build to hold off Shaka. Best to "Pray" :please: Shaka converts REAL Fast!

Why don't you step down and leave the start of this RPC in Rusten or someone's hands, let him deal with Shaka, then step back up and do the rest of the game? :)

^I don't agree with that at all. This is Mad's game and he shouldn't be given advice to give his game to someone else. Mad, you play the game.

Nonesense! I can screw up my own RPC, And make it very entertaining! Perhaps short-lived, but certainly entertaining.

Just going to throw this out there, but you could re-start with my edited WB file. Moving Shaka to another landmass makes it so you can actually play it full on in RPC mode, and concentrate on getting the Shrines instead of spending 1/3 of the game dealing with a very difficult neighbor on a small landmass. I am thoroughly enjoying it, I can focus solely on the RPC condition, for example one of my neighbors has a Shrine already, and I am buddying up to his Worst Enemy, so we can work together and I can get that Shrine.

You may want to post the game in a spoiler, as there should be great interest.

Myself, I will play it out as it comes, resorting to "Divine Intervention" to move that iron from Shaka's turf to Spanish turf if need be. And while I was planning on getting as many religions as I could, the situation dictates military action and thus eventual military action to claim the Holy Cities! Worse case, I restart the RPC as I have done many times before (mostly due to Shaka I might add!).

- I don't think that A-rush is very likely on Monarch, so you are pretty safe for now.

- Shaka doesn't care much for religion. Just like you, he doesn't have enough room to expand, so he'll attack you very soon, once he has access to iron.

- I don't think that horses will help a lot. Chariots and even horse archers are dead meat vs Impis.

I agree on all points. So my options are

1) Find off shore iron/copper fast.

2) Run a settler off shore fast.

3) Tech AH very fast and pray for horses.

4) Station some warriors/archers in the south and continually pillage/war Shaka's iron.

5) Pray for "Divine Guidance" and worldbuild Isabella some iron!

The more I think of it, the more I like option 5. I have already lost 2 religions and probably more as old Shaka will certainly be slowing down the Spanish tech machine here.

I would resort to option 5 as a last resort. I'd try to see if you can find offshore iron or copper first. If not, then tech to archery/AH and get something better than a warrior at least for defense. Then perhaps if Shaka enters WHEOOHN, perhaps the Gods can open up and donate a mined copper resource to allow a few whipped axes.

Agreed with UWHabs. But also resort option 4 until Shaka settles near the iron.

You can also found a city on a hill somewhere between your core cities and his to lure in his axes/sword/impis. Archers in a hill city with some walls are hard to displace without cats. Without a promo, those archers are at 5.25 strength with a FS. If he does go for that city, you might be able to keep him a bay until feudalism.

P.S. Is there any way to rush a settler to the iron? If he doesn't have IW yet, it's an unlikely place to settle, so you might have some time yet.
