Role Play Challenge: Paranoia!

Suggestion! Let's say by 5PM tomorrow when I get home from work.

fine for me ... i'd like a stab on the next save :P

hmm ... misspost prehaps :D

I wouldn't mind a stab at this, so I've snagged it for some little edits. Will follow with the details.

Another God has struck! With all these Gods arguing, the earth trembles, and the God of the Mountains springs forth. Fires rise from the depths of the oceans and lands. Mountain ranges seem to have sprung from nowhere!

Continents that were separate are now connected! Continents have now been split by mountain ranges, some passable, some impassable. How this will affect the planet is unsure, but everyone is affected by this. Weather patterns are affected, with western edges of mountains now being more prosperous and wet, and eastern edges drying up.

Also, word spreads that in a very far and distant land, a massive barbarian cove has been set up. This cove has sprung up in a new settlement of mountains that arose from the ground. This barbarian camp is rumoured to be the home of the God of the Mountains. A reward will come to the first tribe to defeat the defenders, and claim the cove for themselves. However, if it is destroyed, a tragedy will befall whoever dares destroy this home.

Spoiler details of the changes :

Since Mad was isolated, I thought I'd try isolating the main continent. I've added mountains to connect Mad's island to Justinian, so you still can't get there by land. The main one was splitting the main island, adding an impassable mountain range separating out Pacal, and another one to split off Napoleon and Jao from the others.

The barbarian cove I set as a city on one of the isolated islands, nearly surrounded by mountains. It's on a hill, across a river, and I put about 8 or so units in it. Will probably be tough to capture, but at least by muskets it'll be fine to take. Thinking my reward will be to change all mountains in the territory of whoever captures it to grassland or plains hills, maybe throw a few iron/aluminum/coal squares as well. If it's burned, we'll see. Probably converting a bunch of hills to mountains would make sense.

This is my first divine intervention, so if I did something that seems grossly out of place, feel free to modify or change things. I did keep one of Napoleon's cities away from his mainland. I also made sure that he has no coastal cities on that section, so he'll at least be a bit isolated for that part.

The trees sway as Gods of the old and the new unite, one god in particular, The Nature God, rises forth to speak to the Great Leader of Ethiopia.

"For many years, the nomadic peoples of the world have respected the earth and it's power, however, now I fear that since the Humans of this earth have forsaken life amongst nature, that they will forget their dependence on it."

"So long as you respect nature, the jungles, forests, oceans, and the health of your own people, you and I shall have no qualms, but, should you chose to disrespect that which has given you life in the first place, then the fury of nature will be seen."

"All you must do Zara, leader of the glorious Ethiopians is remember and respect that which has given you life, I ask not for fancy quests, just the respect of the world the gods so carefully created, On with your quest!"

Can some one make it rain frogs?

Spoiler :
I agree With Joshua, some one give him a few more AI's to play with. Perhaps Monti and Gandhi, both with a decent power rating.

Just to get this stright now. I am to use the save in Post #70, last modified by UWHabs, right?

Yeah, that'd be the most recent edit. That is, unless someone sneaks another change in soon...

signing up to play along and make changes AFTER madscientist plays this round.

Just putting in my 2 cents here as a reader and rare replier. Just picked up reading this whole thread today.

I find that all of these changes are confusing and not as much fun to read as the game itself. This is Mad's RPC game series - just because it's in the same general vein as the DI games does not, to me, mean that it needs to follow what those have done.

For the sake of reading and trying to get the most out of Mad's clever writing, good gamesmanship, and random typos I want to say I enjoyed much more the idea of having ONE change per turnset.

Again, it's my thought and opinion, but as a reader and follower of Mad's threads I would just much rather see more Mad and less deity interruption.

The only comment is if I could post the Suryavarman game and keep my sanity, this is a piece of cake!!!

My feeling is to see what mess I have tonight, play it out (hell, I may not see to many anyway!), report some arrogant opinions from our Paranoid leader, and post some entertaining typos!

Alternatively, I may just die and the god's will have the last laugh!!!

I agree with Kev. But to compromise, why not have a second thread, have these posters discuss there and make a bunch of ideas into one and give just one save to mad to use, rather than having this disorganized thread.

I'm fine if people disagree with me, I just wanted to see if this would work (conflict resolution is handy, you should try it some time.:p)

I agree with the above statement. I originally though the DI series to be a very cool and interesting idea, but, as was said previously, the convoluted save game additions and changes caused confusion that I wasn't willing to untangle. Also I think it'll be easier (for the reader) to figure out what changes have been made if there is just one official update, rather than 20 little ones with 20 different changes (it's too hard to keep track of)

Good idea Matthew :goodjob:

Paranoia!: Part III

As Zara awakens to the sounds of yet more supernatual sounding events, he throughs open his window (well, whatever counts as windows 1t 1100 BC) to see many changes

ZaraB0001.jpg

First Zara hear's abunch of nonesense. The gods giving advice, singing sounds, demanding quests. This is all way too much for Zara, and he once again curses the gods, razing his fist in defiance once again.

But slowly, with the aid of his trusted Ethiopian scouts finds a somewhat different world.

He finds a series of advertisements posted by the southern Barbarian city. Apparently they have the technology of alphabet and Aethetics looking to generate business for their fastfood resturants. WE ignore them until we have a good military.

He finds a massively promoted Servent of the Arts Swordsman (combat II, Shock, Drill II, Flanking II) poised to atack our northern most city that we claimed as spoils from the pathetic goddess. Obviously he is yet another craven from the lands of the earlier brothers grim. This is troubling as our lone archer defender is questionable and we quickly send the closest fogbuster to bolster our defense.

We find an axeman to the SE of the capital siomply labeled "Machine". With 2 archers in teh capital we are confident of our defenses but pillaging in an issue. Our fears were for naught as the god's yet again send incopetance, as the machine axe simply stood in the forrest outside our borders. We actually made friends with this enemy for a while, bringing him Ethiopian tea and playing Maijong while we awaited construction of Ethiopian Axes to dispence with this annoyance.

Next, Zara find a mangerie of animals at the borders of his capital. He fears he must dispense with them with archers until he finds them quite tame and under his control. Apparently the gods have tried to bribe him with pets now. For now Zara simply uses the beasts as effective fog-busters until he settles those lands, then there shalt be a feast of fresh meat!.

ZaraB0002.jpg

But most intriguing, Zara finds a mysterious penninsula od mountains connecting his once isolated lands to.....

Once Zara has dealt with the only threat, the Servent of the Arts (who actually suicided himself on our city!) he sent a new settler to claim the iron, something he really needs!

ZaraB0003.jpg

FINALLY, Zara meets someone of Intelligence if of limited entertainment.

ZaraB0004.jpg

We agree to open borders for now.

The next city is dropped near the horses to claim all the needed military resources we need.

ZaraB0005.jpg

we meet the next leader

ZaraB0006.jpg

Somewhat of a backstabber, but if we adopt his religion and HR we should be OK. One thing so far is that Justinian and Joao are different religions, perhaps we can foster some dissent there.

At this point, the random events gods offered more challenge than the false petty gods that formally hindered the developement of the great Ethiopian people!

First we pop a goody hut on a lone continent.

ZaraB0007.jpg

well, one less archer to pay upkeep for! Note to oneself, send a few axes over there when we go and settle the island!

Next we send a stack of Swords south looking for some of those wonderful McDonalds Hamburgers promised. Needless to say our soldiers are quite miffed and hungry, take the city, and look to get some fresh pork eventually.

ZaraB0008.jpg

HOWEVER!!!! As we approach the city we see that a horde or barbarian horse archers has appeared.

ZaraB0009.jpg

Truely the gods are a step behind good old fashioned human barbarianship!. Zara quickly looks arround, and of course the Horse archers are no where near the swordsmen!

ZaraB0010.jpg

The good thing is we have a few archers near the city, so we get 2 additional defenders before the HAs strike.

Meanwhile, our valient Swordsmen acquire a new city for Ethiopian settlement

ZaraB0011.jpg

Copper to eat and pigs for weapons, er I mean copper for weapons and pigs for eating!

Reagrding Justinian and Joaoa, we opened borders waiting for a religion to spread to us. So far we got christianity which we ignored.

Oh yeah, techpath!

Math/Currency/Code of Laws/Mysticism/Meditiation/Priesthood and saved. Obviously going after the economical techs. But we did manage to pull of this trade

ZaraB0014.jpg

Good for a needed happy resource

Now tea and mahjong only go so far so far, so take care of "Machine" Axeman

ZaraB0015.jpg

After priesthood we saved, looking at monarchy and fuedalism as the next techs (I trust in the foolishness of the gods more than peace with those 2 AIs!).

The Map

ZaraB0016.jpg

and Techs

ZaraB0017.jpg

THAT is a BIG Ouch!!!!

OK, so the plan for the next segment

1) Deal with the gods again.

2) REX all we can. We need alot of cities now, and have good land.

3) Monarchy/Fuedalism next, what then??? Justinian already has paper and thus likely a big start on the liberalism race.

4) we need to get a galley to the mysterious east and see what/who is out there. There have been a few Great Generals born, so it's not exactly a lovefest.

Alot of fun so far! Looking to get as far as I can with this game, a game against the gods! Beating the human AIs is more secondary here (although rpeferred!).
