Role Play Challenge: Paranoia!

Spoiler :
Well why exactly are we trying to wipe him out? It's not like he's taken the lead and needs to be knocked down a notch.

Then again... if American Dad taught me anything its that completely destroying someone lets them find God. Maybe if he falls down to the breaking point crazy old Zara will find religion and be brought back. :p

Well time for some fun anyway. Don't want to ruin everyone's fun with making Mad's life miserable, but I don't want to make things worse. So I offer not so much a quest as much as a prize and a sign of hope and goodwill to all mankind. :p

A little offshore, locals are alarmed when an iceburg rises up from the depths of the ocean by no natural means. Upon which sits a city, mysterious as it is hostile. And standing tall inside it is a monument of a man with his arms outstretched, as though reaching out to those across the bay. But to capture the city will not be an easy task, and the man perhaps will not be freed for centuries or millennia to come.

Civ4ScreenShot0000-4.jpg

So as long as no one has any serious problems with it, something to help Mad out if he can muster the forces the capture it. To do it right now would involve taking down two longbows on a hill amphibiously with classical units... though people can increase the garrisan if they think it'd be too easy. It can be captured whenever, though I suppose if you take too long an AI might get it first. ;)

And yes, it's a modern wonder, but it isn't exactly out of place in the ancient world, and neither is the concept of anarchy-free switching. (yay creative/organized/spiritual) It'd be a nice boon if he can get it but I don't think it'd be game breaking, at least not from his current position.

The God of nature takes pity on the struggling Ethiopians. He transforms parts of their jungles into forests.
However, he also decides to give something to all of mankind, and a paradise rises from the seas. The God of nature decides anyone brave enough to cross the oceans to reach this paradise may live there.

Zara could not sleep. There was a pesky mosquito that kept whining in his ear.

bzzzz! bzzzz!

Frustrated, he slapped his ear, hoping to kill it.

"You missed", a voice sounded in his ear.

"What? Who is that?", Zara sat up in bed, startled. "Who just spoke?"

"It is I, Mantis, God of the Insects."

"You are one of those Gods, aren't you!", Zara responded, indignantly. "Go away and leave me alone, I don't do quests!"

"I am well aware of your attitude toward the Gods, so I won't expect too much. But, you would do well to listen to my advice. The Portugese have built an enormous garden which houses many different kinds of plants and insects. They dedicated this structure to me, and so have become my favored civilization. Do not anger them, or you will suffer my wrath as well as theirs.", Mantis said.

"The who? Portugese? Who are they? I have not met anyone calling himself Portugese.", Zara added, quizzically.

"That is correct, they live in a distant land, across the Western Ocean. Their leader is Joao."

"What did you say, Who-ao? Jaoa? Joaoa?"

"Joao. You would do well to remember it.", Mantis corrected. "I have also left you with a gift as an example of my power. I have convinced coccineal insects to live in large numbers west of Addis Ababa. Cultivate them and harvest their dye to reap their rewards. I will leave you now."

"Hmmph. Good riddance.", Zara mumbled.

"I heard that!", the voice spoke one last time.

Nah, it was declined. It was figured that very few divine interventions could take place.

I like what you guys are doing! This is a fun thread to read. Keep up the good work.

Paranoia!: Part IV

Zara falls on knees is shock at what he finds! Not only are we at emperor but at the mercy of these cruel and unloving gods, plusthe annoying French have showed up and made things very ctitical at the save. If the god are truely on Zara's side, they will show their merciful side in the next update, if not then it's a long road for our ethiopian people!

But what has Zara woken up to

First Zara has a little more view of the lands

ZaraD0000.jpg

As the gods hint at what Zara must do, go to those goody huts with a scout. He spits towards the gods, "I will not be your dog to fetch what you want!." But still huts are hut, Zara prepares more of the Ethiopian fleet.

Meanwhile numerous other changes

The Egyptians have entered the game

ZaraD0001.jpg

Not a bad thing, Zara met with ramesses and here's his sad stories of how the god's have toyed with him also. They laugh and cry together and express their undying loyalty (well, at least until Ramesses is no ,longer useful).

We also find the crueslest joke, our capital has moved overnight with the old one completely unprotected.

ZaraD0002.jpg

The we find the island of Cristo defended by longbows, and an large and strong force in teh capital

ZaraD0003.jpg

The god are tempting us, but we shall not fall for it. For what, to get a large statue for themselves, Bah. we do not need it (at the moment).

Finally, the gods have given us something that is useful

ZaraD0004.jpg

2 sources of gems, now THAT is a handy thing!

But these changes has greatly set the ethiopians back, being at only 20% science soon, we work commerce tile building courthhouses.

Our tech path went: Alphabet (to rtade with Ramesses)/Monarchy/Fuedalism/Civil Service/Paper.

The problem is almost everyone is ahead of us. It also severely cramped our expansion plans, so settler were put on hold!

We started meeting more leaders

ZaraD0006.jpg

ZaraD0007.jpg

ZaraD0008.jpg

So we tried a develope a bit, and send off some Galleys for those goody huts, popping all maps! What is this!@!! NEVER trust the gods, we expected rishes and knowledge. Maps, moron gods!

We did drop another settler to the north

ZaraD0011.jpg

we met the last leader

ZaraD0015.jpg

Great.

Meanwhile, the last of the 4 goody huts gives us

ZaraD0016.jpg

About time! Don't let the door hit you on the way out whichever god set this up!

However, it started us breaking out a bit in tech trading and our good old friend Ramesses

ZaraD0017.jpg

Come through!.

Which led our tech situation to

ZaraD0018.jpg

(sigh!)

So after Fuedlaism we changed civics

ZaraD0019.jpg

We also sold alot of resource, getting about 28 gold in return and getting our slider up to 90%. Perhaps we can resurrect this tech deficet after all.

To Be Continued...........

Paranoia!: Part D continued

Zara starts getting better and better trades

ZaraD0020.jpg

We also adopted Buddhism to keep the nearest civilizations (Byzantium and Egypt) happy with us.

We started dropping more cities

ZaraD0021.jpg

And got a nice random event to boost Justinian diplomacy.

However, we are getting pushed arround and our military is atrocious (Curse the gods and their delays!), with Joao demanding we shut trade with napolean then also demanding 500 gold (we refused that one).

We made one fianl trad ewith Egypt,

ZaraD0023.jpg

THEN

ZaraD0024.jpg

I got so messed up our next settler I misplaced and had to reload. Napolean still attacked though.

The vial French attached one of our new cities as we upgraded the defending archer to a longbow, but too late as Napolean razes the city. He now approaches the next new city.

ZaraD0026.jpg

And we saved there!!!!!

Will the Gods come to Zara's aid in his war with French and punish the offending French people. Or will they laugh and aid the Ethiopian Enemies. Zara remains defiant, he will bow down to no one, "Never trust a god" he always says!

The map of the lands

ZaraD0027.jpg

And a few last minute trades

Note to the Gods from Mad Scientist: Good job all arround i think! No complaints at all although I thought the capital move was rather brutal and set me back more than anything else so far!

Any donations to our troubled Ethiopian people are greatly appreciated!

Boy, the Gods seem rather tough on the Ethiopians. All we are saying, is give Mad a chance...

Hey Mad,

It seems that you missed the save with my changes. When you load a game to play it, please "got it" so we can tell when you have the save and when we can still alter it. Thanks, Mad.

Got it. (10 chars) *edit: Changes listed below. Next edit should start from this save.

The God of the Mountains has returned. We left a cove of Barbarians on an isolated island, and the island is no longer isolated. Rameses has captured the cove, and decided to keep the city! Thus, they will incur my good fortune, and no more mountains remain in their lands! The barbarian cove now boasts some livestock where the mountains had sprouted! And on their mainlands, their moutains have shrunk to hills, and sprouted Gold!

But that is not all! Having realized isolating people's lands after they visited each other may have left some people feeling a bit safe, I have decided to open up the game. The large continent's mountains have vanished, replaced by hills and waters. Perhaps these new old borders will spark some feelings between the inhabitants that may not have been there before.

But there were some mountain ranges in Mad's Land as well. How dare Napoleon decide to invade the noble Zara! I have decided to help out the city under attack, by having it spawn a wall to aid in its defense. But not only that, that land is now nearly entirely surrounded by water! Where mountains once stood, mighty lakes and oceans have taken place. It is still connected, but only by a thin strip of land! But since I am not heartless, a mighty navy was commissioned, to send the workers of the Matara back to the homeland, away from the dastardly foes! And some mighty horse archers have spawned down the road, in a final attempt to thwart the mighty Napoleon from these lands. And a slip of the mouse has caused the French Horse archer to wash away, never to be seen again (or will it?)

Now that these mountains have vanished, the sea life is starting to return. New sources of clams and crabs have started to grace the shores.

Spoiler :
Okay, I pretty much explained it all above. I'll let others help or hurt in Napoleon's invasion, but as far as I could tell, now that the horse archer is gone, Napoleon is out of land troops to actually be able to take any city of Mad's, so he should hang on.

Zara awoke in a cold sweat, eyes wide. He had dreamt of Matara, his tiny colonial expedition to the east coast of Old Ethiopia, as a bustling metropolis. Markets buzzed with activity, people from all walks of life walking down the wide boulevards, lined with exotic plants from the far off countries of America and Portugal and buildings of marble. Smoke began to rise from the edge of the town. Arrows poured down from the foothills of Mt. Matara, replacing the bustle of normal town life with sickening thunks and bone-chilling screams. Men carrying French banners in one hand and swords in the other charged down from the hills, killing anyone who got in their way. Within the hour the markets lay silent, the only sign of Ethiopian possession left the stinking of the piles of corpses being shoveled into mass graves. The Ethiopian flag on every building were torn and replaced with the French cross. The legions of French began to move out, setting their eyes on the jewel of Old Ethiopia, of Aksum and Gondar.

Yakob sat up in his bed, locking eyes upon a muscular man in full armor. His black hair and pale skin told him he was descended from the Portuguese or the French. His eyes were what he fixated on, though. They were black as coal, giving an unwavering stare, as though he were dead. Zara yelled at him, not knowing what to do. "Who are you, and why are you in my palace?"
His stare still stoop fixed on him. "My name is Nerius, god of war and destruction, and I am here to-"
Zara interrupted, "I ally myself with no gods, do not ask for any favors!" Zara was furious. He was busier than ever, and he was awoken from his first sleep in two days by a god?
Nerius continued without a flinch. "I am here to tell you of my allegiance to the French, whose leaders devoutly worship me. The war WILL be lost by you, whether the result be total annihilation or just being weakened even further then you are now. And I will personally enjoy it." Nerius disappeared in a ball of fire, igniting the wooden walls of the room. Zara got out of the palace just in time to see it collapse into a smoldering ruin. It would be rebuilt, but Zara was intimidated.

I'm on a mac, so I can't edit the save directly, so could anyone make these changes?

Spoiler :
Give Matara 7 population, and an army of 10 swordsmen on the next tile.

Spoiler :
Got it, for Baking the Art

Spoiler :
10 Swordsmen? That seems a little extreme. I did it but still...
Indeed it's extreme. Way more than extreme. So why??? To indulge some extremist who is so extreme that he doesn't even own a real computer?

Gotta give Mad credit. He has a good attitude in the face of extremity. Soldier on, my good man. :salute:

Spoiler :
Real computer? Man, my mac is my baby. Don't make fun of my baby. >_<

It's not that extreme. I think the barbarian invasion was more, because he barely had any protection. The city will fall, sure, but in the age of longbows and macemen, it can't do much damage.
