Kamehameha I, This Side of Paradise: War upon the High Seas!
Kamehameha looks across the oceans and decides Hawaii must expand somewhat if it is to survive and prosper. Diplomacy amongst his near neighbors is one thing, but the rest of the world has alot of land that is ripe, and diplomacy cna be an excellent tool.
Whether Kamehameha's plans will hit the mark is another matter.
We start by sending our one surviving Privateer off the terrorize any civilization weaker than Hawaii. This pays off as we managed to get
The first GG which was settled in Honolulu!
Tehcpath went along the line of
Physics/Assembly Line/Steel/Electricity/Industrialism until the save.
Hawaii still utilizes the archaic and barbarric practice of slavery, but soon that is too end for
The last city to get a Dike is high enough in population to whip it out. After the lash is used here one last time, Kamehameha agrees to his people's demands for emancipation.
Toss in Theocracy for unit promotions.
After finishing Physics (to which we lost the GS race) we looked for Uranium
No Uranium. This requires a little work later on, but this may be worked around.
we had a DP with both Julius and Hannibal but that ended with the horns of war
A quick peak at Cyrus's lands
Not exactly a powerhouse there but there is uranium!
We popped alot of Great Scientists this segment, all of which were settled in Honolulu (has Oxford also) except for one that was saved for possibly Standrad Ethanol.
The inevitable demand from Julius to cut ties with Cyrus was agreed upon, then his vassal Hyuna came asking for
Kamehameha imediately agrees and we consider how to leverage our advantage of infantry against Cyrus while production is abysmal and using the draft to deplete population is difficult with teh food situation.
It is complicated a little more by this
and That
So Hannibal went after Mansa leaving Pacal the leader without a war at hand.
We got a random event ending the Zulu war
However when the same option came up for Cyrus we refused. There are plans for that.
Not your typical Mad Scientist force of doom but perhaps enough to do some damage.
This game I wanted to focus more on Diplomacy so when this request came along
I jumped on it keeping my near neighbors very happy.
As our modest invasion force neared Portugal which led to
Actually I think it was Mansa who initiated this. However, Pacal did not send any Galeons full of troops, he just preferred trashing our fish with frigates.
NOW Cyrus on the other hand
Sending the troops slowly up that narrow land probably is not going to work, however Cy was spooked enough because
So one leader down. That really leaves Pacal/Mansa/Hammurabi as potential targets to absorb. So we start looking in Pacal's direction, and the first thing is to do all we can to avoid a surprise attack.
We send our larger army on our east Indiamen towards Pacal's lands
And remove one distraction
Our vassal starts giving us good techs
And we move onto Pacals home island which contains only London and York.
Pacal has enough fire power and a strong navy (he does have ironclads) to prevent us from marching against London immediately. After securing York and building more frigates we finish Industrialism showing we have
No aluminum. As space is not an option this is less critical than say oil or uranium.
we make a trade with Cyrus
And order him to research Biology while we start researching Combustion
Which is where I saved because I wanted opinions on this
Do we take a momentary peace with Pacal???? He will likely have Infantry within 10 turns, and while we do not have tanks yet we do have the option of Marines and Pacal does have Machine guns in his cities. SO do we continue the attack and deal with unhappiness or take a breather?
Here is the tech situation.
Pacal has NO OIL right now, so I am not concerned about destroyers yet. He does have Uranium and THAT does concern me if he get's Fission before I get Plastics!
Either way Pacal has to be conquered or vassaled, then we can move onto Mansa and Hammurabi.
