Role Play Challenge, TNG: Kamehameha I King of Hawaii, This Side of Paradise

perhaps a run at the 3-Gorges Dam on the mainland is a possibility.

This only gives power to cities on the continent on which it is built. Are you really going to invest all those :hammers: for, what, 4 cities?

Well, if it's your only shot at power without the risk of meltdown, sure...

I'd rather have 10 tanks or 11 marines, and build a hydro plant in the capital.

Well, notice how a few people to the west of you have oil on their land? If you decide to rule the islands by the sword, then perhaps it would be good to start there.

Also, noticed above Julius has his hands full. Don't remember his diplo chart perfectly, but be aware in case he's plotting against you.

Julius is pleased for the time being, so no problem here for Mad, methinks.
But you have a point: there's only Hannibal of Rome (ohhh that irony:D ) with land-based oil in a half-decent strategical position.

Julius has Acona on the other side of the world and Onondapa in the southern ice cap.
Mansa also lives far away enough to be save, I'd say. And those northern oily barbs are also not really tempting :scan:

You should consider using your newly increased production power, Mad

I'd rather have 10 tanks or 11 marines, and build a hydro plant in the capital.

If one can. Mad said something about a lack of useful rivers ;)

Looks to me like 8 cities on that continent if you count the NA ones. That's definitely cheaper hammer wise considering that some of those cities would require the expensive nuke plants. Now, if he's not planning to conquer those, then... it might not be worth it.

Julius can declare at pleased, so Mad's not safe. This is an even bigger problem than it would usually be due to Mad having only half of Julie's power (though some of that power is probably coming from his vassal Capac). It's a good thing Mad is in slavery and nationhood - a whipped/drafted army will be needed.

uh, oh... no oil 8[ warfare won't be too much fun without destroyers here, so either beeline plastics with assembly line next or check for uranium first to decide (preferable). otherwise they'll starve you to death with superior navy... that's no.1 priority in this case as it seems. attacking hannibal for oil could be an option, he could be a threat in the game anyway doing pretty decently techwise ... maybe you're even able to trade for oil with him? ofc, that would mean to share techs so he can grab it, and afterwards it'd be a gamble wether he wants to trade it anyway, so this isn't an option.

as physics is needed either way, get it, check uranium, if you have it get combustion and wipe out all of them with infantry x) if you don't have it ... get desperate ;D nah, well, but then it'll take much longer... with uranium, infantry+cannons or artillery. diplo win seems tricky and is, at least in my eyes, not an option, space would be a gamble for aluminium (no coal = no alu inc.)... yeah, seems like a race for uranium/oil in any case. good luck, at least techwise you're doing great!

Looking good, I've never actually used dikes now I think about it, might fire up an watery map later on to give them a go. The backwards AI have lots of gold that you need tot take as well, Julius would love to part with that 600 gold for liberalism I'm sure. :)

Frankly, with dikes and power-less factories in every city I think Mad will have more than enough of a production advantage to wipe this map.

I was really hoping for rampant nuclear meltdowns.

Kamehameha I, This Side of Paradise: War upon the High Seas!

Kamehameha looks across the oceans and decides Hawaii must expand somewhat if it is to survive and prosper. Diplomacy amongst his near neighbors is one thing, but the rest of the world has alot of land that is ripe, and diplomacy cna be an excellent tool.

Whether Kamehameha's plans will hit the mark is another matter.

We start by sending our one surviving Privateer off the terrorize any civilization weaker than Hawaii. This pays off as we managed to get

KamE0000.jpg

The first GG which was settled in Honolulu!

Tehcpath went along the line of

Physics/Assembly Line/Steel/Electricity/Industrialism until the save.

Hawaii still utilizes the archaic and barbarric practice of slavery, but soon that is too end for

KamE0001.jpg

The last city to get a Dike is high enough in population to whip it out. After the lash is used here one last time, Kamehameha agrees to his people's demands for emancipation.

KamE0002.jpg

Toss in Theocracy for unit promotions.

After finishing Physics (to which we lost the GS race) we looked for Uranium

KamE0003.jpg

No Uranium. This requires a little work later on, but this may be worked around.

we had a DP with both Julius and Hannibal but that ended with the horns of war

KamE0004.jpg

A quick peak at Cyrus's lands

KamE0005.jpg

Not exactly a powerhouse there but there is uranium!

We popped alot of Great Scientists this segment, all of which were settled in Honolulu (has Oxford also) except for one that was saved for possibly Standrad Ethanol.

The inevitable demand from Julius to cut ties with Cyrus was agreed upon, then his vassal Hyuna came asking for

KamE0008.jpg

Kamehameha imediately agrees and we consider how to leverage our advantage of infantry against Cyrus while production is abysmal and using the draft to deplete population is difficult with teh food situation.

It is complicated a little more by this

KamE0009.jpg

and That

KamE0010.jpg

So Hannibal went after Mansa leaving Pacal the leader without a war at hand.

We got a random event ending the Zulu war

KamE0011.jpg

However when the same option came up for Cyrus we refused. There are plans for that.

KamE0012.jpg

Not your typical Mad Scientist force of doom but perhaps enough to do some damage.

This game I wanted to focus more on Diplomacy so when this request came along

KamE0013.jpg

I jumped on it keeping my near neighbors very happy.

As our modest invasion force neared Portugal which led to

KamE0015.jpg

Actually I think it was Mansa who initiated this. However, Pacal did not send any Galeons full of troops, he just preferred trashing our fish with frigates.

NOW Cyrus on the other hand

KamE0016.jpg

Sending the troops slowly up that narrow land probably is not going to work, however Cy was spooked enough because

KamE0017.jpg

So one leader down. That really leaves Pacal/Mansa/Hammurabi as potential targets to absorb. So we start looking in Pacal's direction, and the first thing is to do all we can to avoid a surprise attack.

KamE0018.jpg

We send our larger army on our east Indiamen towards Pacal's lands

KamE0019.jpg

And remove one distraction

KamE0021.jpg

Our vassal starts giving us good techs

KamE0022.jpg

And we move onto Pacals home island which contains only London and York.

KamE0023.jpg

Pacal has enough fire power and a strong navy (he does have ironclads) to prevent us from marching against London immediately. After securing York and building more frigates we finish Industrialism showing we have

KamE0024.jpg

No aluminum. As space is not an option this is less critical than say oil or uranium.

we make a trade with Cyrus

KamE0025.jpg

And order him to research Biology while we start researching Combustion

Which is where I saved because I wanted opinions on this

KamE0026.jpg

Do we take a momentary peace with Pacal???? He will likely have Infantry within 10 turns, and while we do not have tanks yet we do have the option of Marines and Pacal does have Machine guns in his cities. SO do we continue the attack and deal with unhappiness or take a breather?

Here is the tech situation.

KamE0027.jpg

Pacal has NO OIL right now, so I am not concerned about destroyers yet. He does have Uranium and THAT does concern me if he get's Fission before I get Plastics!

Either way Pacal has to be conquered or vassaled, then we can move onto Mansa and Hammurabi.

you're not too lucky with resources, are you? ;) i'd say peace in this case, you're not forced to quickly end this war so take your time - after all you want to win this game and not rush pacal out. just make sure he doesn't get fission before your plastics and everything is fine. marines are kinda sexy on this map, you can do the famous "two turn war - capitulation" stuff with 'em.

Can't you demand Uranium from Cyrus? Isn't that why you went to war with him? So, you don't need to worry about that once you get fission.

King Kamehameha, This Side of Paradise: Oil and English Vassals

Given the massive effort to subdue London and the increasing unhappiness Kamehameha I, oh wise and generous King has decided to allows Pacal a little more time to live by himself.

KameF0000.jpg

This apparently was wise because Pacal very soon had Uranium powered Destroyers roaming the the sea.

KameF0001.jpg

If Kamehameha is to dominate the World and Seas proper he must have oil! Thus he begin researching Combustion/Plastics to build off-coast Oil rigs!

The next GP was

KameF0002.jpg

Which is sent off to Native Rome for extra gold to upgrade our wooden based navies.

Our Vassal Cyrus is becoming rather strong however I am trusting in our abilities to continue to subdue him and offer this generous trade.

KameF0003.jpg

At the same time we finish

KameF0004.jpg

And nail this trade

KameF0005.jpg

Thus we have access to battleships and fighters to combat PAcal. Next we start on Artillery and Rocketry.

With an upgraded Navy and and established army on London's continent we dial up Pacal

KameF0006.jpg

The land war is overwhelmingly favorable to Hawaii, the Naval battle is in England's favor.

we did manage to capture London

KameF0007.jpg

Which had a slew of nice wonders

KameF0008.jpg

The Hawaiian Navy was decimated and our off-shore oil in peril thus we got this peace trade when we could

KameF0009.jpg

The next GP we got was

KameF0010.jpg

And used him to found Standard Ethanol in Honolulu. Perhaps overkill but ocean oil is very susceptible to attack.

We then got a messgae that the UN was built, apparently by Mansa Musa

KameF0011.jpg

We voted for the Native Roman and made a mental note, Mansa has the UN.

We got some more techs from our Vassal

KameF0012.jpg

And adjusted Civics

KameF0013.jpg

Sure a 50% increase in the costs of Standard Ethanol but unhealthiness is a major issue and our research is based on specialists.

Julius got elected UN CHair but did not have enough votes for Diplomatic Victory.

However, we got this random event

KameF0015.jpg

we chose option 3 to get +1 diplo points to all Hindu leaders and -3 towards Pacal.

This resulted in

To Be Continued....

King Kamehamehe, This Side of Paradie: Oil and English Vassals

Pacal Immediately declaring war on us. This was fine as we had a sizeable army on hand, a strong battlship based navy, fighters, and no diplo penalties towards Hannibal.

We moved quickly here, taking advantage of a few tanks and marines.

KameF0016.jpg

KameF0017.jpg

The Sistene Chapel is a nice grab here.

We continued to island hop

KameF0018.jpg

KameF0019.jpg

KameF0020.jpg

Quickly crushing Pacal's spirit and ability to wage any proper defense.

KameF0021.jpg

So there we have 2 vassals, and a sizeable population.

I saved here, researching Computers to try and nab computers before Julius's colony Vassal Hyuna manages a space race win. The question is where to go next.

Looking at Victory conditions.

KameF0026.jpg

Obvious Mansa of China is the next target and very soon.

The UN situation

KameF0027.jpg

Getting Mansa'a lands may be able to lock up the game for us.

A view of the CHinese home island

KameF0028.jpg

Bejing has the UN!

Techs

KameF0029.jpg

And cities

KameF0030.jpg

OK, I think a massive buildup of tanks etc... for a grand attack of China is in order here. The biggets question is what does Julius and Hannibal have in mind "We have enough on our hands!"

The tension is building up. Thank god you finally got oil. Good luck with the next segment when Julius is knocking on your and says:.....

If you let Mansa keep the UN city in Beijing, then you might be nearly enough at that point for the diplo win. Heck, just seizing control from Julius should be enough, since he'll probably vote for you as well.

@ West India Man: I have it spread through most of the main island, enjoying the extra health. I was tempted to adopt State Property and only swap out if the off-shore oil is pillaged but I really need all that extra health.

@ UWHabs. Very good point. If I take over the Hammurabi Zulu and get the population from Julius I may just be able to get the needed votes, providing I can do it before MAnsa goes culture. Otherwise as you said I can take everything from Mansa except Bejing. Given Hammurabi does NOT have rifles yet he appears the easiest target.
