Role Play Challenge, TNG: Mad Scientist, A New World Order

At first I only had the espionage but that was not enough and more espionage was overpowered. Then I thought Secrative means special agricultural skills known to only these Celts that are never passed on to other civilizations (They bury fish with the seeds but don't tell anyone). Maybe a bit of a stretch but there is some use expecially for those games where your isolated and extra espionage is a complete waste.

I see your point. But maybe Cunning is a better term?

Love how Secretive is actually "Secrative" in your mod. Shows who made the mod :goodjob:

Creative is a bit broken if you get 3 cathedrals...

example: Ethiopia: 25% on stele 100% on cathedrals maybee with free speech 100%

quick culture win?

Well, Creative has often been criticized for not doing enough to help for the Cultural victory.

I wanted to add something to creative to help later in the game. It is not a 100% bonus like other buildings, it's half that.

A rather interesting mod is turned somewhat mundane:

10 AD

Spoiler :

Opened up warrior 1st while teching AH ---> bronze as the starting site is not very good for growth w/o any true power tiles (damn cow + FP).

2 things happened:

1. Mapped out almost all the land
2. Our neighbors are GILGAMESH and SHAKA!

Note that gilgamesh isn't as bad as normal, as mad pulled his protective trait. Nevertheless, he's across a narrow peninsula and had an easy favorite civic. That left Shaka, which is just about a guaranteed DoW with a high risk of dragging gilgamesh in in the process.

No way in hell...

He built a lot of cities but the chopped chariots hit fast and hard.

And I start laying the thick, cottage carpet. Tasty.

Gilgamesh getting religion and me getting monarchy (ASAP, before alphabet or currency) means good relations, terrible tech, but a lot of cottages worked. SPREAD that carpet!

To liberalism

Spoiler :

Yes, seriously. That garbage won lib.

Also, sully is jewish, HC buddhist, wang/charlie hindu, and there's a lot of fighting...although that happens between this segment and next. I forgot I hadn't met the AI by lib in this game, as normally you would.

1849 AD Domination/Conquest

Spoiler :

After lib it was an obvious shot to democracy and trading where I could. I also managed to push communism first (barely), and picked up a game-over:

I used to think infantry/arty was an ultimate stack composition. Over time, I realized that the only important factor in that equation was the arty! After rifling I head straight there, and use kremlin + MGB cash rush to prep an invasion force:

Gilgamesh is no slouch. Until a couple turns ago (when I overtook him), he was #1 in power and is still #1 in tech:

In fact, he was still #1 in tech all the way up until he was erased entirely, which didn't take long:

I lost 3-4 rifles in this war, and <20 arty. I killed > 100 units easily. The quote for arty is very fitting.

So then I just tech combustion/flight while letting the cities slowbuild more rifle/arty, buy a bunch of transports, boat my forces over, and buy a bunch of fighters while moving. I didn't make any destroyers, just shuttled oppressive force over initially:

Of course, charlie had a DP with wang. However only sully got combustion, so I could have reinforcements as needed. The end result was a quick chain capping of that whole continent:

And the stats:

Somewhere around liberalism I forgot I was playing a mod at all. Obviously nothing does terribly well against arty with fighter support.

So, the cottage carpet laid it on thick and overcame whatever traits the overseas AI had. I forgot to even check .

Mad Scientists, A New World Order: Taking Control of the Weak Minded

Brennus peacefully led his people along the river, considering where to establish a permanent city. "Ah, the Celtics cna handle many civics changes for we are a Spiritual people, surely upon reflection we can understand great mysteries and eprhaps find an organized religion!" The Celtic people are happy to follow, and all is good.

SUDDENLY!!!!!!!!!!!!

A flash of light comes from the sky, striking the brawny Celtic leader. Brennus Screams in pain and covers his eyes.

GET UP!

Suddenly Brennus hears a voice in his head issuing commands, move there, settle here, build that, research that. His simple mind is confused, "Why does my head hurt?"

BECAUSE I AM IN YOUR HEAD DOLT! MY NAME IS MAD SCIENTIST AND I COME FROM FAR AWAY. THINGS ARE GOING TO DIFFERENT THIS TIME AROUND.

"Huh, different. We are just starting"

SILENCE!

Brennus screams in pain again as the Celtic people look on nervously, yet helplessly as their beloved leader squirms on the ground.

NOW LET'S UNDERSTAND EACH. I AM IN YOUR HEAD AND NOT LEAVING ANYTIME SOON. LISTEN TO ME AND THINGS WILL GO WELL. DON'T LISTEN AND THIS HAPPEN.

Once again Brennus screams.

GOT IT?

"Er, got it" As the big Celtic rubs his head. "You talk in my head, I listen"

EXCLELLENT. NOW LET'S GET STARTED

So Brennus, under the guidance of a mysterious yet amazingly intelligent voice, instructs the scout to move eastward to see what land is there.

NOT VERY INTERESTING. JUST SETTLE BIG GUY.

Forrests, a river, 4 floodplains, and cows. well the ocean is close to the west, less area to have to defend.

Almost Immediately the scount comes across

Shaka, Still Aggresive and Expansive.

Brennus says "Hey hey, nice man!"

HE IS NOT NO NICE MAN. CONTINUE ON

Meanwhile the Celtics start researching Animal Husbandry while buildign a worker. Pretty routine stuff. Brennus initially wanted to research an eraly religion but a few zaps in the old noggin got him to understand that food and production ar emuch more important that contemplating the heavens. Keep it simple my friend and you will be in good shape!

The scout managed to pop one hut before getting eaten.

well that solidifies what I was thinking. Time to go get the Great Wall, looking to get a Great Spy early and I think a strong early espionage game is in order! Of course early military is probably much more important with Shaka, but this is Epic speed and I fear him a lot less than my old marathon days.

After Animal Husbandry we find

Horses within one culture border pop! The culture from the eventual Great wall will certainly help get them faster.

Soon the next leader shows his face

Gilgamesh is still Creative but he is Sectretive like ourselves. Given his early and cheap Ziggaret he can certainly be an espionage threat, if the AI knows how to leverage it!

So the Celts are moving ahead, researching mining/agriculture, bronze Working, wheel, archery. Yes archery, I do not trust Shaka very much.

After BW we send the Celtics into slavery, and many wonder why their gentle leader would adopt such a savage civic. Celtia erupts into Anarchy for 1 turn.

AS we finish researching Bronze Working

So to the north right on the coast with a crab resource. Being Secretive and with a lighthouse that is 6 food.

However, before getting the copper, a much better city presents itself

Vienne, right near the Zulu borders. Being on a hill helps and two gold with farms and cows will be very useful early on.

Just as we finish archery the Great wall is completed

I saved here looking for advice on how to continue. Given Brennus has the Secretive trait I plan to leverage that, so I prefer to limit cottages or even avoid them. Farm everything and go from there, perhaps a farm and hammer economy from the classic Brennus RPC! I am open for all options here.

Espionage we adjust

Already we have an edge on Shaka and the more cities we get the more eps.

Obviously Shaka has to go especially since he is so clase, but I think we need to expand first

One good southern city will block him that way

And to the North

Well the river coastal tile can eventually capture the crab and cows and likely block Shaka off. The crab copper is more preferable though.

So do we settle the next 2 cities to block off Shaka or go straight for the copper and :trouble:

Also, what do we research and build next??? Writing seams logical for libraries and two scientists each as we have the extra food and also the next step to alphabet for spies. By the way I think spies are also half price for a Secretive leader, but not sure. We will find out later, like I said I do not exactly know what I am doing here!

Now in Bribrate, do we start spamming workers and settlers, or get a bit of defense up first?

Looking for advice!

I'd say smack 'em. If you're going to play food and spies you can really use an early hammer.

Personally, I'd do Shaka with Bronze Working in the library.

Then I'd nail Gilgamesh with chariots in the study.

After that I'm a little lost.

edit: Besides, you're MadScientist. Don't let that peace and love hippie Brennus influence you. You know you want to chuck an army at Shaka, just do it!

Well, we already took different paths, as I was already approaching 10 chariots by now :p. I hate shaka even more than you as he has ruined immortal games for me right and left.

If this was any other RPC I probably would have done that also. But given the Trait I got I figure a little stealth and perhaps some spy activity to take Shaka would be in order. Of course Shaka may not want to wait.

Hahah... this is great fun! :D

"NOW LET'S UNDERSTAND EACH. I AM IN YOUR HEAD AND NOT LEAVING ANYTIME SOON."

TIMT: it really hurts watching your economy crash AND Chariots attacking Impi's.... why... WHY!!!
why didnt you raze any citys?

MadScientist: i think you should let Giggly go... for now... just to have a tech trader...

you need Shaka dead as soon as you pausible can! hes got both Gold and Bronze, and that Iron Working is gonna go VERY fast with that and his UB...

I know this is an RPC but, if i was but a voice in a mans head i would like to survive....

TMIT: it really hurts watching your economy crash AND Chariots attacking Impi's.... why... WHY!!!
why didnt you raze any citys?

What crash? After a border pop or so I wasn't even losing money at 0%, and I had monarchy by 10 AD! I settled MORE cities after the rush.

To be fair, I did technically raze one city, because it was still at pop 1 and hadn't grown.

But seriously, why raze cities when doing so loses so many hammers and you already have the means to set up a long-term empire? Tech took care of itself eventually with all the cottages. I even got a building or two eventually.

Now that is the lesson that everyone who aspires to move up needs to learn. The economy hasn't crashed if you're not losing money at 0%. I hate razing cities unless they're really poorly placed. As long as you can limp to alphabet, currency and COL, those cities will more than pay off in the long run.

Exactly! This is precisely what TMIT and Mad have taught me - I don't need to be able to run the research slider at 60%. That, and city specialisation, not building every building in every city. SO much more fun :)

great now you've let the cat out of the bag, everyone's going to have super food output now...

Yeah, I considered advising chariots. Speed is good, and Shaka is seriously hate-worthy.

I just hate throwing horses at impis.

But if you're fast enough to beat him getting to impis . . . .

Meh losing money at 0% is fine war economy ftw:). Losing money at 0% with no units left and all cities working max commerce is a crashed economy:lol:
