Role Play Challenge, TNG: Mad Scientist, A New World Order

I do wonder how well the AI can make use of such traits, though. Is there hard-wired code to handle them, or can it be altered by Python code? I don't imagine the AI can figure things out just from the XML data -- if it were that smart, it would play better!

This is really my biggest concern. Being my limited programming skills I can only proceed with XML.

A few things I have noticed

1) Wonders seam to be more spread out, although Industrious leader still tend to go after them.
2) The Ais continue to cottage spam.
3) The Agressive leaders are still agressive (see Shaka above cas ein point).
4) SeaFaring leaders do not flock to the coast as they probably should.

All in all though, it's not that much different. Perhaps a tad easier for me, but not a difficulty level worth, and after the point of this mod is not really to make things harder but more fun!

Now if anyone has some suggestions that I can do I am all ears!

You can edit a LOT of AI tendencies in the leaderhead XML mad. You can make AIs more or less aggessive, more or less likely to pursue wonders, more or less willing to trade and at different dispositions, etc. You can also cause them to favor certain kinds of units and tile improvements...all w/o anything but XML.

That's what I thought but was waiting for someone to actually say it before I went and embarressed myself.

Perhaps if I decide to do another series with this mod I maybe should hand pick 6 leaders and get some opinions on how to go and play with them.

I assume they are in the leaders XML as I saw those things when I changed the traits. I was a little concerned at first what to change so I went conservatiove, and the modding forum is a little hard for me, less help and alot of more tech talk than I can handle. If I go with a series I can learn more and entertain the masses with my stupidity!

A long time ago I created a super AI that mops the floor with all the others and would likely make high levels extremely difficult or impossible if all of them played that way (very backstab happy, waits to declare for very strong advantages, lots of units, lots of cottages, trades more than mansa). There is a guide on the mods forum about what XML values do what that is worthwhile for editing the leaderhead XML and puts each term in lay terms.

Thanks TMIT! You got the link?

Hi Mad,

Great changes!! I think you should create a new military UU for India. How about a Sepoy. You could base it on a Musketman and have another go at Gandhi the warmonger.

Battista Elephant is still weak. I always thought Sury should do well on an Arboria map. Maybe you could make it move faster through jungle/forest.

Vidion, thanks and welcome to the Forums and RPCs!

Regarding the Battista, no advantages over a normal War Elephant but always having access to one of the games strongest unit for it's era that requires a rare resource is a big bonus. Khmer is now gurarenteed to have the only Unit that matches the Roman PRat!

Ah the fast wroker, sorry I don't think that UU will ever changed or be viewed the same after that Gandhia war-monger game and it's subsequent youtube video!

Perhaps it could be upgraded to be allowed to fight, and have 1 strength? And, obviously, allow it to flank units. Could be fitting for the Gandhi warmongerer game.

yey ... workers with 1str ... can't wait to see someone kill an Medieval AI with nothing but Catapults and Workers :P

Mad Scientist, A New World Order: The Secretive Trait

A rather peacefull segment where we leveraged the espionage angle of our Secretive trait.

Techpath for the segment: Metal Casting/Civil Service/Paper/part of education

Started the segment by building much needed courthouses and markets, and very soon we popped the next GP

ModD0000.jpg

Given we are running 0% science while building all of our courthouses

ModD0001.jpg

We used the GS to create an Academy in Bribrate.

And our stationed spies started stealing what they could

ModD0002.jpg

ModD0003.jpg

And we changed civics

ModD0004.jpg

The next Spy had these options

ModD0005.jpg

And our choice is

ModD0006.jpg

Leads towards Optices and allows us to build crossbows.

We then met another leader

ModD0007.jpg

Sueliman is still IMperialistic and Philosphical. And while techwise

ModD0008.jpg

He does not have Astronomy or Education which open up 2 buildings with the Philosophical trait.

Our spies continue to work

ModD0009.jpg

ModD0010.jpg

I should make clear how I am approaching stealing techs. I simply send my spies to the nearest city, have them wait 5 turns (for the 50% reduction), and steal the tech.

Civil Service netted us this trade

ModD0011.jpg

And we adjusted civics again

ModD0012.jpg

I also managed to scout out Gilgamesh's lands

ModD0013.jpg

Smaller than our and Shaka is his Vassal. Over time we should get a good tech edge over him and can leverage military once his usefullness of tech stealing comes to an end.

Researching Paper shows we have a monopoly

ModD0014.jpg

Being behind so much and not knowing how the other leaders are doing I opted to trade off Paper

ModD0015.jpg

The Stole

ModD0016.jpg

I also stole Poltheism and Monotheim from Gilgamesh.

In restrospect I probably should have made the HBR/Aestheics trade with Sulieman and then backfilled from Gilgamesh but I was hoping to get Suiliamn to open up other techs for trade.

We met the enxt elader

ModD0017.jpg

OK, so Charles and Suleiman are different religions yet have not been at war, thus the GGs born are coming from someone else.

So before Charles can get ticked and refuse to trade, we pulled this off

ModD0018.jpg

As we are researching Education, we got this Great Person

ModD0019.jpg

So what do we do with him??? I saved here, looking for some ideas. I can either infiltrate against Gilgamesh and basically steal to tech parity, or I can build another Scotaland Yard in another city.

Techs

ModD0020.jpg

So with infiltrate I can get Engineer, Guilds, Drama right away.

Finally, our cities.

ModD0021.jpg

So I saved here.

What to do with the Great Spy and I think we should continue to tech towards liberalism.

That's some impressive espionage! Engineering, Guilds AND Drama would be a heck of a haul! I say go for it. Three techs for one GP is an amazing deal, if you can pull it off.

... Or was that Engineering, Guilds, OR Drama?

Unfortunately this map doesn't really show the potential of the trait, as the other guy left alive also gets EP bonuses right back at us. EP spending reduction early on could really make this shine, especially to recover from city spam. Stealing is still strong, however. One GS would probably get him all 3, not just one of them.

I say infilitrate and steal those 3 techs from Gilga :) Otherwise settling in the capital with SY is the best option as I don't see other cities pumping out the EP that is higher then 12 per turn right?

Also the way to better leverage the espionage trait is to beeline the big three of Constitution/Democracy/COmmunism for fast construction of those buildings.

Right now another Scotland yards is not much, but it can be alot with an academy/Bureau/jail especially with the extra food from Secretive to run more spies.

Still I like the idea of infiltration. The National Epic is double speed and we just got Literature so we can start pumping out more Great Spies, researching ourselves what Gilgamesh is not researching.

I would settle the GS in cap with Scotland yard. Only build a second Scot Yard if you plan to use the slider for your espionage which i dont think you pland to do. Academy is irrelevant to Espionage correct?

I assume you are targeting for a Rifle/canon war against Gilga to secure your continent. I think by the time that happens you will have earned the same amount of EPS as an infiltrate and still have your spy sitting in your cap working for you.

Depending on your final Vic condition, consider razing some space to allow another AI to settle on your continent and replace giggles as and ESP target.

Academy is irrelevant to Espionage correct?

Yes, the academy is irrelevant to espionage, correct. However, the academy is not irrelevant to the extra 3 beakers that a great spy provides (this doesn't even count three more beakers that any settled GP provides in Rep). Just an added bonus for settling him in the capitol.
